The NPC Meme

I'm sure someone knows their names...

Welcome to the NPC meme! This meme has certain special rules and functions unlike many other memes! In this meme, the NPC journal isn't just encouraged, it's how you play. Or, at least...how someone involved in the thread does.

The premise is simple: You post your character to lure in some characters who aren't currently being played, and someone else brings in the NPC journal with their interpretation of that character. You play a thread! CR gaps filled!

Alternatively, if you have a character you might be interested in playing in the capacity of an NPC (such as a character you don't want to app, and thus put in a test drive, for one reason or another) then post a top level for that NPC.

Currently played characters may tag out only to NPC top level comments, not to each other. NPC characters could tag to anyone. However, since threads in this meme are eligible for AC (and therefore game canon), it's best for NPCs to tag current characters, rather than other NPCs.

Steps/Rules

1: Post a top level with either your character or an NPC you'd like to play for the meme (Using the NPC account!) - If you're looking for someone specific to tag you, be sure to include it in the top level somewhere so people know to bring them.

2: With your characters, tag out to NPC top-levels or wait for an NPC to tag you. With NPCs, tag out to top level 'current' character threads, or respond to characters that tag your NPC of choice.

3: Thread things that can't yet be played out, or might never be able to be played out!

4: When playing an NPC, since you'll be using the NPC account to do it, don't forget to track the thread with one of your own accounts! (If you have a paid, at least. For free accounts, it's still recommended that you track at least the entire post so you don't miss anything!)

"True, on all counts," Nanako agreed.

She picked up on the old woman's train of thought not because of any loss of skill on her part, but because Kisame had grumbled enough about those sorts of ambitions being winked and nudged and poked and prodded at in front of him—along with a few pointed hints for good measure—and... well. She couldn't help herself; she so rarely had the chance to tease him.

"Kisame-kun is a very useful man to have around." She cupped her cheek with her free hand, shaking her head slightly. "Our current system is, of course, classified, but it's highly tailored; for example, it couldn't successfully be implemented for the entire village infrastructure. That would take a certain degree of blending tradition and innovation."

"I save my lessons for naughty children who need to learn," she demurred, lowering her lashes and allowing her smile to slip into something a little... well, it was a type of nostalgia, technically. It was just better applied to the case of a predator thinking back to a particularly filling meal, rather than a fond memory. There was a sense of intent from this man, though she doubted he had a specific one in mind for her. He was firmly outside her normal range for a 'child', which meant he was either an enemy, an opportunity, or something... other.

She hadn't met many 'others' since the end of the war.

"Well," she raised her fingers to her mouth, as if in thought. "I suppose I could always give you a lecture on making a lady scramble to hold up a conversation..."

Well, if it wasn't the younger Hozuki brother. Both of them were cheeky brats, but Kisame respected their ambitions well enough. He didn't respect the elder's claim of mastering all seven blades--for one thing, did that kid even have lightning nature to properly wield Kiba?--even Samehada. Certainly, he had enough skill to wield Samehada on a temporary basis, but if he'd mastered the blade, Kisame wouldn't be the wielder anymore. Ah well, Kisame wasn't about to openly challenge the kid about it. It just made him silently grind his teeth to hear the claims.

The younger, though, seemed to be trying to get out of his brother's shadow, and Kisame was interested. Good swordwork, there, but now the kid looked to be distracted, and that was a bad sign. So Kisame came closer, as silent as the mists that descended from the mountains every evening, and unsheathed his day-wear blade--because carrying Samehada everywhere tended to get in the way, unfortunately, and the sword liked to complain about being around so much delicious chakra and not getting to taste it--and moved to poke the kid in the back with it.

Kakashi had been on his typical rounds that morning, visiting those places he visited once every few weeks, and had found himself on tea alley without really thinking about it. His feet often had the habit of pushing him toward comfort before he realised he was in need of it, and apparently Yamato was the comfort he didn't know he needed today.

Yamato, however, was out. Kakashi loitered by his door for a few minutes, scaled the roof to peek in his skylight, and only when he'd managed to wedge his window open and take a look around for himself did he decide Yamato was definitely absent at that current time. With a dejected grunt, he shifted the bottle of sake he'd brought with him better into his arms, and trundled downstairs to leave through an actual door this time.

That's when he almost bumped into the small figure that darted out in front of him to mop at a table, and he took a few steps backward to steady himself.

"Ah," he said when he noticed that he recognised her face as the woman who had knocked on Yamato's door early one morning - his landlady. "Sorry about that.."

Aah... Even though working at academy was fun, it was also exhausting! So the quiet atmosphere of the tea house was a welcome change for the frazzled red head, seating herself nearby Danzo without being right next to him. Even the smell was wonderful, and she couldn't help feeling the aches of the day soothing away with the warmth around her. She ended up ordering an herbal rose-based tea, her eyes closing as she relaxed on the table and waited. If she wasn't careful she'd end up falling asleep...

... Huh. There was an older guy over there with an interesting scar. Curiously she glanced over to him, but with a shrug she decided to leave it be. There were scars she wouldn't want to explain to a complete stranger, even if most of them were honorably attained. The same could probably be said of that man over there. No, it was just time for a quiet afternoon with a hot drink and a few crackers in order to settle down.

Oh jeez... Seemed like the Yamanaka Flower Shop was incredibly busy.

Adela just blinked hard at the commotion, unable to help her embarrassed flushed as she saw how the customers were arguing over who would get what flowers and how much they were willing to pay. It wasn't until things quieted down that Adela dared enter, feeling unusually timid as she simply looked around. She'd seen Yamanaka Ino around before, but... Well, this was different than just seeing each other in passing as colleagues.
abileunaspada: (Okay fine I'm smiling.)

"Mikoto-Sensei," Her voice was quiet -- moreso than usual as she regarded her former tutor, a smile on her face while she approached. It was nice to talk to someone older than her when it didn't regard academy business, so it'd be a good break before she headed off to the classrooms for the day's work. It looked like she was shopping, so maybe she could help her out...

"It's been a while. How've you been?"
scarecrowboy: (oh my actual heck can you not)

Kakashi pressed his lips togther under the mask. Oh god, he'd forgotten; forgotten that the last time he'd met this woman he'd opened the door from Yamato's apartment and greeted her inquiries dressed in nothing but his underwear with a copy of Icha Icha infront of his face.

... Not the best impression he could have made.

Flushing dark, he made a funny high noise that sounded like a creaking door, and was about to decline her offer when he spotted the steamed buns and the steadily boiling water..... He hadn't eaten yet, he supposed sticking around at least to clear his name and assure this nice old lady he wasn't some strange pervert was the least he could do.

"Sure.." he said, taking a seat near to the main counter. "I'm.. sorry about the way we met. I'm usually much better at first impressions."

It was good to see Mother, with all the traveling and missions that he did. He did miss having cooked meals, even if he did rotate sources now and then. He offers her a respectful nod and a small smile; won't bother her if she is busy.

Self improvement was the cornerstone of what made Team Gai so successful in their dynamics. Because being strong individually could only help them when they worked as an actual team. It was one of the main reasons why they had such a high success rate on missions. Of course, it had been some odd months since the members of Team Gai had actually gone on an assignment together.

It was a sad realization that Tenten faced almost once every week. And much like Lee, she drowned such thoughts in more training and more missions to fill in her days in the meantime. So it was quite a fortunate surprise to find Lee jumping from rooftop to rooftop as she was strolling through the market area of the village towards one of her favorite weapons shop.

"Lee!"

It had been a long mission. They all were starting to be. But after four years of working as a team - of putting the time in to perfecting their dynamics and formations - it was a hard thing to ever replace the well-oiled machine that became Team Gai. And it was becoming strikingly clear that Tenten's expectations needed to be reevaluated and adjusted if she was to be taking on more missions without them.

After all, it was a required skill of every shinobi to anticipate the unexpected, and for them to react accordingly for maximum success. The kunoichi would need to remember that not everyone could be as capable as Neji, or as resilient as Lee. Or the next mission could very well be her last.

All the same, if there was one thing she could always count on after a hard assignment, it was good tea and some hours of peace at her favorite little teashop. So Tenten had been glad when she found herself strolling down a familiar street. And ecstatically excited to see that Old Lady Tae-san had decided to open the shop so early.

"And here I thought I would have to camp out at your front door for another hour."

Ah? Adela couldn't help blinking at him when he came to sit by her, feeling tense and put on the spot. Uh oh, had he seen her staring? She thought she kept that to a minimum. Damn.

Still, she tried to control her discomfort as her prepared tea was served, and with a smell she felt herself relaxing again and she took the first slightly-burning sips. A mild tea, with a fresh scent... It was definitely easier to focus on than her impromptu drinking partner.

"Ah... Yeah, Yamanaka-san. I just thought..." She felt awkward suddenly, feeling a bit unused to not having to introduce herself within the village. Still, Ino seemed friendly enough, and she took a moment to think before continuing, "Just that... The kitchen at home could use a fresh touch, you know? I'm home a lot more this month, so I thought it'd be nice to have something there for Uncle and I to brighten up the room."
