Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. "Why not have total control of the markings then? If you only can suppress them at effort, it's not good enough." He narrowed his eyes, letting himself fall, then kicking off the water to the side, weaving between the poles before hopping back up on one.

She stuck out her tongue at him even though it had been more of a compliment than an insult.

She turned on her heel and ran off towards the training area without saying another word.

"I work on it every day. It gets easier all the time but I'm not there yet." He wasn't fast enough to catch Sephiroth before he jumped back onto a post. So far the tornado drop was the only jutsu he'd caught Sephiroth with, and the only other jutsu he could execute with that speed were simple projectiles that would be too long closing the distance.

"Small and inconspicuous as possible. The safest option we could all agree upon, given the changing climate.."

Houou didn't need to elaborate further, he knew Akio would understand. Conflict was on the horizon and such an obvious troupe, grown large, would struggle without some sort of permanence and until that could be offered within the clan, alliances and covers were better forged now.

A wry smile curved his mouth once again at the offer though and he bowed his head in thanks "As always, knowledge is your most valuable commodity and I will see you paid through the usual channels for that to continue."

"A paramour? My my, how you've grown."

There was a teasing lilt to his voice as always, but it was over layed with genuine pride at seeing a young one he'd taken a shine to, grow and become someone who cared for those he held dear, it was a trait he admired greatly.

"Ah! Some of my kin have settled here and it appears our objectives are similar. I'm hoping to find them unaffected by what has happened within the village and the surroundings.."

"I will withhold judgment for the time being." Naoto has her doubts of that ever happening completely but she knows if she does get strong enough, their dismissal will hold less weight. It's the only thing she can think of to stop it from happening, at least.

"Ah..." he gave him a sheepish smile. "It sort of fell into place given how long it was since I'd seen her when I ran into her last year."

Shaking his head, he picked up his step. "I'm around here from time to time, she lives in Uzushio now so I come by when I can. I can always peek in on the others when I'm around if you like?"

It was a concept Nori could easily identify with, given he did the same thing for basically the same reasons. Anonymity was invaluable, and with the hostilities flaring up between borders.. well, best to wait out the storm sometimes.

"'Preciate that." It's a good deal they had going between them. Good intel for good pay. "I'll send Gilroy t' find you after this then."

Gilroy isn't actually the name of his red fox messenger, but it caught on before he could do much to correct it, and he was forced to admit the moniker worked well enough as a code name.

She smiles, not that he can see with his eyes closed. But he has a point, between the core members of their tribe it was idiotic to doubt any of them.

"I know. Thank you for reminding me of that." She's still nervous of course, but it's much easier to ignore now that she's voiced her worried to Gale. She could always count on him to put things back into perspective even when it frustrated her that he had to do that at all.

There isn't much to say in response, so he doesn't. It's quiet between them, but in a way Gale finds he enjoys. The silence will break soon enough so for now he just keeps his eyes closed and listens. The tension has decreased to a slow simmer that's not unusual and he enjoys this level of relaxation.

"Do better. If this is every day then clearly you need to progress further." It was a simple statement, and the expectation was clearly that he could, and would, comply. He was watching him for another attack, but nodded once.

"Defend."

That was all the warning he gave him before coming at him.

Naoki didn't answer out loud but nodded at the clear command. Do better. The sudden change in their fight dynamic almost catches him off guard, instead he shifted easily in to defense. He was already aware of the speed and agility Sephiroth possessed, so he would need a tight efficient defense to avoid being overwhelmed.

The water clone was out of position but came to support him quickly.

"Nearby..." It was a skeptical tone that greeted her, and rightly so. Granted, geography was probably not Tifa's best subject - she knew her own home and country better than most, but outside of it, her memory would benefit a refresher - but the kunoichi knew the difference between an island nation and one land locked to the main continent. "In Lightning."

Still, accusatory or not, Tifa managed to keep her voice soft and inviting, if not a little wary at the other's explanation. "That must be quite a walk you're taking."

She took the compliment as it was, feeling the smile pull lightly at her lips as he emerged from his hiding spot. And despite all her efforts, there was no helping the soft huff of a chuckle in the few moments where L had gotten tangled up in the shrubbery. "I didn't feel threatened by you following me, so there wasn't really a reason for me to hide it."

Yuffie kept her smile and shrugged at her friend. She wasn't one to explain herself so easily though she enjoyed Tifa's teasing comment.

"No kidding. I'm exhausted. Maybe you should buy me dinner."

It was certainly not the reaction she was expecting. But it was not much of a surprise, either, if she was truthful with herself. Shinobi were a suspicious lot, and she was no different, even if the kunoichi was more trusting than most. And growing up in Kumo, Tifa was used to dealing with the most static of personalities. So while it may have been a little off-putting for others, the blunt approach and somewhat harsh disposition did little to stall her attempt to make friendly conversation.

"Well... A little of both, I think," Tifa responded, her voice light and gentle, "I can't befriend you if I don't know a little more about you."

What he might not have expected was his sheer strength, and his long Masamune blade sprang to his fingers before he leapt at him, coming down in an immediate flurry of blows while keeping himself out of reach. He wasn't going at full speed at all, not wanting to kill the boy, after all.

The longer reach Sephiroth had only got worse when the swords came into play. He was quick enough on the draw to get it out, barely, in time to block. Naoki was surprised by the strength behind it and shifted to his two-handed sword style. It gave him less flexibility to attack but he needed the extra strength.

His only chance was to get inside, too close for the effective striking range of the sword. Between the speed, strength, and poles they're standing on it's easier said than done. Naoki leaned back and rolled backwards off the pole to land on the water and put the pole between them. He darted around to go on the offensive when his water clone arrived to back him up.

Sephiroth let him get back, then stayed above, stabbing downward and more than able to reach the teen, moving faster to keep him from being able to properly use any of the distance put between them. It was an aggressive tactic, but his sword wasn't six foot long for nothing.

Well, there are a few. There's ones about the sea, animals, humans.. Creation stories have always been a major staple of any society. I just have a fondness for the ones my grandma learned from her home. She came from an island, so they have lots of interesting ones.

They told of how the stars were actually pearls thrown into the sky by a god that wanted to impress his lover. He took all the pearls in the world, which angered the other gods so much that they cursed him to be trapped in the ocean. He turned himself into a giant fish, but that's a whole other story to tell.

The biggest and brightest pearls became the Pole stars, which is what all the fishermen use even today.

"Now why would I do a silly thing like that?" Smile still in place, there as no denying the way her voice took a mildly sharper edge. And her lips shifted to match as she turned to resume her own trek through the trees. "Especially when this would be the perfect opportunity for you to train up your survival skills."

Her lips form into a delicate pout, her arms crossing in front of her chest. "This is what I get for coming all this way to see you?" Tifa knew better than most that Yuffie's cooking skills were shaky at best. Should could catch anything but her idea of cooking was just before burnt. It was eatable and Yuffie got used to and at times liked the chard taste but Tifa's cooking was far better.

"How about you make me dinner!"

"Ah, but just because I was not threatening you does not mean I am without motives. That is a very bad habit to fall into Lockhart-san." He finally came to a halt beside her, shoulders curved in a slump and hands in his pockets.

Even chiding, his voice was mild.

Truly? I had not heard of such a story. Are you still of these islands or were they all told from this relative of yours?
