rumple's reputation

In which Pen was dumb and did not think things through so she has to tldr you again with an ooc post.
(It occurred to me during the exchange with the Embryon that felt weird and that was because I was in a position Rumple wouldn't be in: having to self-promote. So this post was born.)

Alright, Sunshine! I need your help.

In Rumplestiltskin's canon, the Dark One comes with a reputation--even preceding Rumple himself. He's the most powerful sorcerer in the world. People know they can go to him for things and make a deal and get what they need (for a price).

In Sunshine, Rumple's been around (as the Dark One) for over 150 years before Sunshine's game starting year. That's almost 80 years before Konoha and the Ninja Villages are created. His powers, never mind his actual birth, predates most of the cast. Now, I've run into a problem.

The problem is: I kind of need people to assume he's been here the whole time and thus already accumulated the reputation for being the deal maker that I kind of need him to have going forward.

Depending on your character's knowledge and involvement with the world around them, the Dark One could be:
• a person they know exists and perhaps even have seen the workings of/dealt with themselves (backdating ideas is fine by me)
• a rumored being in Forests said to be capable of jutsu most never dreamed of (etc, etc... fairytales, nightmares, bedtime stories, etc)
• a powerful political figure who has held his position longer than anyone can remember
• or...if you (like the Embryon) are so, so very far removed from the world itself...maybe you do not know of him. But on the whole, the mainland of the world would know at least stories of his fabled Dark One of Forests.

I'm sorry to pester you guys with this note. If anyone has any questions, leave me a comment, plurk me or pm rumple's account, or hit me up on skype. Thanks!

I always saw him as something of a being that was stationed between myth and legend. Like some story that shinobi tell their children to get them to behave, otherwise they face the consequences of this boogeyman-type figure. In which there are rumours but very few, if any, are sure or certain on whether or not they're true. But for the most dire of people, sometimes a myth is enough to go on. Especially if it comes with half-believable rumours.
