Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

There's something peaceful about being in a tree, about letting the shade ensconce him so that he can watch, unobserved while he pretends to read.

Sure, some of the time is spent lost in the pages of his novel, the familiar words carting him away from stressful missions and - oh, gods - social interaction, but there are moments when he is content to watch the world that he knows but can't seem to be a part of.

Mostly because he's not sure how to interact. Even with all of the missions, training, and teams, it's too difficult to try and fit in once the hitai-ates are removed, the flak jackets hung. No, this is easier. Better.

He'd spotted him from his window that morning, which was enough to indicate the man obviously desperately needed some kind of distracting if he was off roaming the village aimlessly. However, he'd long since learned that the direct approach never got him anywhere, so he did the simplest thing. He crept up on the tree like it was going to attack him if he was too obvious.

Then spoke clearly up into the branches like it was the most normal thing in the whole world. And honestly? By now it really was. "So Kakashi, how was lunch?"

He sensed Obito coming - of course he did, what sort of shinobi would he be if he didn't sense himself being followed? A pretty damn pathetic one, that's what - muscles tensing beneath his jacket.

There was never any knowing what Obito might try, given his mood and whether Kakashi was showing any signs at all of vulnerability - which sometimes was something as simple as the stance he took.

Choosing to ignore the anticipation that prickled over his skin, Kakashi raised a shoulder languidly, let it drop.

"It was fine."

He peered up at him for another long moment, then reached up, clearly contemplative. "I'm sure it was. Did you save me any?"

Given a long enough talk, Obito would be right up beside Kakashi in the tree, yep.

Sighing, so much sighing at Obito.

For all of his carefully hidden admiration, Kakashi's very real annoyance crept into the tautness of his jaw.

"I did not."

Idiot.

His expression said that he more than expected, nay, anticipated that answer. He planted himself on his chosen branch and reached up, pleased when he could snag Kakashi's ankle to pull his foot down. "That's a shame. Where did you go?"

"Oi, oi!" Trying to maintain his equilibrium, Kakashi shoved his book into his pocket, long arm darting out to grab the sturdiest branch within reach. "Stop that."

"Mmm.... no." He gave another, firmer, tug. If Kakashi fell, he knew he was more than capable of keeping the man from actually being hurt, and it was Kakashi's own fault for being in a tree.

"You didn't answer my question~."

"Obito!" he did not want to fall, okay? Shaking his leg in an effort to free himself, Kakashi growled a bit. "Ichiraku's."

Now leggo.

"Been giving Ayame heart palpations again huh?" The more Kakashi argued the hold, the more he was going to aim to pull the man off his branch.

He should know better by now.

"Tch." In the end, Kakashi went limp, let Obito tug at him because, after all, resistance was a bit futile.

In a way, he did know better.

Satisfied he'd won the argument. He released Kakashi's foot and hopped up to a level branch with him instead, leaning over and peering into his face. "Time to get down out of the tree and keep me company. I haven't eaten in hours."

There's something exceedingly and painfully lonely about Kakashi in a tree, hidden among the shadows, lurking like the distant man he is. He could have team, friends, ...a life, if only he would let himself. But Kakashi never let himself have much of anything. He hid himself from basic social interactions.

Gai intended to break him of that habit. Even if it took years. So far, it had.

"My Rival!" Gai called up into the branches, shielding his eyes from the sun with his hand and grinning like a madman. Kakashi hadn't dashed away yet. Gai would consider this a good sign!
"I have not seen you in some time! Come down! I have lots of challenges planned for you!"

The sound of Gai's voice - as subtle as a rhinoceros - yanked him out of the slight doze he'd fallen into, book drooping in his loose grip. Though he didn't quite startle, he did glare at Gai, as severely as he could given the circumstances.

"How about...no."

After all, this was one of his favorite parts.

"How about 'yes'!" Gai declared with a stomp of his foot. Ooo Kakashi, do not make him go up there and force you out of that tree! "It would not hurt you to say yes more often to social engagements! If you are not more sociable, I will ask Obito to not issue you any missions! Then you will have to find time for me!"

That wouldn't entirely work--Obito needed Kakashi for missions, after all--but it was still worth making the threat to see if it could work as a bluff. Kakashi did seem to prefer escaping into his missions rather than facing time with his friends and comrades.

"...Perhaps the Hokage would even be willing to put a ban on Icha Icha novels!"
