Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Inuzuka Hana | Naruto | Konoha

[personal profile] puppypile 2014-05-21 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hana and the Haimaru triplets had been out at training ground 8 since just past dawn, hoping to get most of their workout in before the heat picked up. Unfortunately, the day had warmed up almost immediately. The four of them were now flopped on the ground in the shade, none of them touching for once. It was too hot for that.

"I know I don't have a fur coat, but there's only so much of an advantage to be gained from that," Hana insisted when one of her dogs verbally prodded at her with a muffled bark, teasing her for stopping along with them. "Tomorrow, let's get up even earlier and snag one of the training grounds with water."

She could probably be talked into standing up and sparring, but staying right where she was seemed much more appealing. Hana wouldn't even bother to so much as sit up at anyone's approach, not unless their scent was an unfamiliar one.

Uzumaki Yuichi | OC | Uzushio

[personal profile] mountebanking 2014-05-21 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yuichi was in her element. Which was to say, she was dazzling, swindling, and charming the pursestrings off of a nicely awed group of travelers near one of the various forest 'summer homes' she still made visits to even after finally and reluctantly settling down in Uzushio. It was all one big hoax, naturally, all slight of hand and discrete seal work, but the passersby lapped it up.

She doffed her large, floppy-brimmed hat with a cheeky grin when the 'magic show' ended, and listened with no small satisfaction as the rho were piled in. She replaced her hat, absentmindedly packing away the cash in one of the various storage seals inside of it and waved farewell to her generous audience, triggering a (shimmering) smoke bomb and beginning to hop her way back to her temporary home with a jaunty whistle.

The tiny cottage, like all of the various properties she had come into ownership of over the years, was slightly decrepit on the outside with a sloping roof and crooked shutters; she had roughed it up herself after buying it, for that nice little 'witch's house' aura. There was a snarled and overgrown herb garden out front that she needed to tend to before leaving, but for the moment she paid it no mind, instead letting herself inside by deactivating a deceptively high level security seal and setting down the groceries she had originally made the trip out for.

The impromptu magic show had basically covered the costs of dinner twice over, and she set about cooking with the smug glow of knowing that she had made a definite profit for the day surrounding her. She lit her pipe once the large cauldron she used was simmering away and stretched out on an overstuffed love-seat to wait.

Though her scent was likely unfamiliar, there was no mistaking that who was approaching was a shinobi of Konohagakure. It was hot, that uncomfortable heat before the sweltering temperatures of summer began to kick in. That stupid auction was soon too, so she'd have to enjoy her last bit of 'freedom' before those began.

That was when she arrived at the training ground, fully intending to practice forms when she spotted the Inuzuka shinobi and large nin-dogs beneath the tree. She looked tired... Really tired...

"Oi, you all right?" Adela asked as she walked over, formally announcing her presence as she pulled a chilled bottle of water out of her bag. She just looked... Tired. Really tired. Hopefully she wasn't sick or anything because of the heat though...

"Fine, thanks, and even if I weren't, I'm a medic. It's just too hot to do anything." Hana sits halfway up, leaning back on her elbows and grinning at Adela. "Four way spars are a bad idea in heat waves."

Because that's what their training consisted of on this particular morning, at least until two of the dogs banded together to attack Hana. An unfair alliance, and she'd been hard pressed to hold her own. Her remaining partner took the opportunity to slip away from the fighting, thus starting the general exodus toward shade.

The smile was nice to see, but at the same time she wasn't so sure. And, even if she didn't know the other, the woman was a part of the village... So she'd help out. She could use that as an excuse at least.

Without another thought she approached, holding out one of her water bottles for Hana to take and glancing at the dogs around her, "I have more if your nin-dogs want some too. I guess it is kinda hot to do any really serious training today if you're not by the river or ponds."

"That's sweet of you. We brought our own, but I think they might fight me for yours. Ours isn't cold anymore." Hana hopped to her feet and accepted the water gratefully. With her other hand, she made a quick hand sign toward the dogs. Anyone who treated her dogs well was okay by Hana, and the offer got Adela on her good side right off the bat.

"I'm Hana, and these are the Haimaru triplets." All three dogs, now sitting upright and attentive, nodded their own greetings to Adela, one of them softly woofing hello as well.

Hana took a few sips herself, then raised her eyebrows at the triplets. They surrounded her in a semicircle waiting for their own shares, which she poured into their open mouths. A few sips apiece of the cold water, and then she and the dogs could stay hydrated with what Hana brought. There was no reason to deprive Adela of supplies.

Cats, unfortunately, liked the heat somewhat, and Shisui seemed to have been accosted by a few of them who weren't ready to leave his shirt. First off, they were getting a free ride. Second, it was a lot of fun taking turns to poke out of his neckline. Third, Shisui didn't feel their little claws digging into his chest so it was mostly a rather smooth ride.

He had, however, a rather shy kitten in his arms that needed tending to, which was why he was walking faster than usual in the general direction of the town, headed straight towards the veterinarian.

....Wait.

"Oi oi Hana! Busy?" Got a minute?

Oh look, there are two other little faces poking out from his neckline to say hello, too. The other little face that turns in her general direction is actually rather bloody in one eye...

I was writing out headcanon and mentioned that she sleeps in one with her dogs; next thing I knew...

[personal profile] puppypile 2014-05-22 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hana smelled the blood, and she was already starting to sit up when Shisui called her name. "Of course not." Even if she were, Shisui should know by now that animals' health comes first to a veterinarian. She didn't typically work with ocular problems, but hopefully it wasn't too complicated. Hana masked any worry as she held out her hands for the cat with the quip, "Taking care of kittens is much less exhausting than training in this heat anyway."

The Haimaru triplets knew better than to get between Hana and an injured animal, but they were on their feet and off to sniff and greet Shisui and his other passengers.

"What happened?"

"Only you'd say that, Hana." He was grinning. Taking care of kittens wasn't as easy job, but he'd take it over training in the heat any day, too. Shisui deposited the injured animal into her hands, careful. "Found her like that. Looks like she'd been in a fight of some sort. I-- I don't know, that's her eyeball hanging out isn't it? I tried not to move her too much but it keeps popping out--"

Poor kitten. She was most likely blind in one eye now, he figured, and only bit his lip at how it was going to have to get used to getting along with just one eye now.

"It didn't look like their Momma was around. I didn't wait too long, though, and didn't want to leave the others behind just in case whatever attacked that one came back for the rest." He intended to take them back, though, just in case the mother cat was still around.

And as for the ninken, his knees were already in the soft grass while he pet each dog's head in acknowledgement. The kittens, however, were a tad frightened, peering out cautiously over his neckline. "How has training been?"

Hana winced, carefully taking the kitten and running her thumb soothingly over its head and ear as her other fingertips sent diagnostic chakra into the affected area. "I should be able to get it back in the socket without a problem and stave off infection, but I don't usually work with optical nerves, Shisui. Nerve damage is tough in general. She won't lose the eye physically, but if the optic nerve is badly damaged, I don't think I can save her vision."

She didn't have to do more than glance in the direction of her supplies before one of the triplets was off, returning with her medkit in his mouth. "Thank you."

Hana pulled a thin blanket from the kit and spread it on the ground. She was a field ninja, not unused to outdoor surgery, but there was no sense needlessly increasing the risk of dirt in wounds. She laid the kitten down gently. "Hot. Sparring was a little more tiring than usual today, especially when certain dogs," her voice dropped warningly, but the two canines in question only wuffed the equivalent of a shrug, knowing she'd never really be angry with them, "decided to ally against me while their brother snuck off to nap in the shade." She'd spent the duration of her answer laying out anything she might need. Hana didn't want to go digging through her medkit once she started.

"I didn't think you'd even be able to save her eye," he muttered, kneeling closer to observe what she was doing. He reached out to scratch behind the kitten's ear, keeping it as calm as possible until Hana started to work her magic on it. The other two had found their way to his back by now, playing peek-a-boo with whichever of the Haimaru triplets was paying attention to them. There were lots of little nose-boops involved.

"If she'd been a boy I might have called her Ivan, but--" Wow Shisui, no. Puns already?

He was laughing at the mention of the two dogs ganging up on her, reaching up and letting go of the injured kitten for now to bury his fingers in their fur and give them a good head-scritch. The laughter faded when he looked back to the kitten, though. "Aw come on, you're literally the best veterinarian we have, Hana." Sometimes the doctor needed a little bit of motivation? "But I think she'd manage, even if she'd be blind in one eye. Pretty sure I can take care of her while she gets used to things, and my little student's a great caretaker when it comes to cats, too. I'm sure she'd be more than happy to assist."

He watched on, curious. Somehow, watching all these medical procedures being done on anyone else besides himself was always fascinating.

The eye was still well-connected enough that there was no need to remove it entirely. Hana very carefully placed it into the socket, green chakra knitting things back together. She frowned, sensing the possibility for infection in the area behind the eye, and poured more of her chakra into the kitten. Eyes narrowed, she considered the cat. "I'm going to want to see her at least once daily this week, and you need to keep an eye out if she goes home with you. It shouldn't get infected, but if it does, I want it caught immediately."

Now came the hard part. Hana hadn't even bothered trying to feel for the optic nerve or check for vision yet. She lay down flat on her stomach, eye-to-eye with the kitten, and picked up the light from among the tools she'd laid out. Shining it into the kitten's eyes, the healthy eye was as responsive as it should be, but pupil size didn't change in the other eye. She sighed.

"I'll try." Hana couldn't promise anything else. She gauged her chakra stores. Hana had enough chakra for another diagnostic and one attempt, but that was all that was left. Briefly she considered taking the kitten to the office and asking for help. No one there had any more experience with optical problems than she did, though, and no one on duty today had more surgical experience.

"I don't think I have anything lined up for this week; I can definitely bring her in for check-ups. And-- yeah, I guess she'll go home with me. Keep her away from her brothers too, huh?" Because those two were naughty and kept play-fighting a lot. He figured the little girl was going to need some time alone to heal up properly without aggravating issues.

His face fell at the sigh, though, and even if he might have joked about calling her Ivan (eye-one), Shisui truly was upset about the fact that Hana just might not be able to save the kitten's vision.

He could only nod, and hope for the best when she told him she'd try. He knew she'd exhaust all her options before throwing in the towel if she had to. Shisui wasn't kidding when he'd said she was probably the best they had. "Is it going to hurt her? Do you want me to hold her still?" His hands came down from petting the dogs, reaching over now for the kitten.

"Yeah. Kittens are as bad as puppies when it comes to playing rough. If you've got a protective, well-behaved older cat, you can put them together, but otherwise, leave her isolated from other animals." Hana was familiar with some of Shisui's cats, but she hadn't seen them around kittens, and she hadn't seen the way they interacted as a group.

She nodded, confirming he should pick up the cat. "It won't hurt at first. I want to get a better comparison between the two eyes and the two optic nerves. It might when I try to do any healing, and that's difficult enough without her squirming."

Once the kitten was settled with Shisui, Hana seated herself crosslegged in front of them, lips pursed and both hands hovering just above the kitten's head. She sank a probing bit of chakra into the feline, feeling for differences between the two eyes, particularly with regard to the optic nerve. "I think I can tell where the problem is," she muses, "I'm just not sure if I can fix it."

"I'm Adela. Good to meet you," She nodded, smiling a bit more broadly as she knelt down in front of them to greet them properly. She'd never seen a nin-dog up close like this before, let alone three of them... She had a feeling that they were different from normal dogs, even if she couldn't exactly identify how.

You know, aside from being really really big for dogs.

"So they're capable fighters too? That's kinda cool, I've never really met nin-animals like this before."

Shisui shook his head, taking the kitten from Hana and holding her by the scruff in one hand, and grabbing her legs with the other. He was cooing at it, offering it words of reassurance. One would think that cat was his baby. "The older ones don't really stay. I don't encourage them either. I'm not around for months at a time sometimes so I wouldn't want them to expect me to feed them all the time; they'd starve if they're too shy to go out looking for food, or if they're too picky." That wasn't normal for cats, but he did encounter one poor little guy who just wouldn't leave his house for months.

He sat there with the cat, listening to Hana as she examined the kitten and purposely training his eyes to look at the cat or Hana's face instead of anywhere inappropriate. Somehow, the cat was more important to him right now but-- just in case. He'd been getting accused of plenty of inappropriate things as it is, recently. "...Her sight?" Aw, poor little girl.

"Yeah. They've all trained since they were puppies, same as I have." She didn't bother phrasing more carefully so as to not refer to herself as a puppy. Careful phrasing was reserved for people who disrespected her ninken, making Hana want to humiliate them as much as possible. In-clan, it was entirely acceptable to mix together human puppies and canine ones, the term practically an endearment.

Hana grinned as she watched the dogs get affectionate with Adela, playfully nudging her. They knew where their cold water came from, and they also understood every appreciative word she said.

"Did you want the training ground to yourself, or would you like company? I'll treat you to lunch after."
problemdaimyo: (You worry too much!)

Xing-shu "Hotohori" | Fushigi Yuugi | Land of Noodles

[personal profile] problemdaimyo 2014-05-22 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Leaders of villages tended to vary greatly from place to place and often reflected the pinnacle of what that village represented in some way or another (even if that was monarchy), but Daimyo tended to be the same from place to place. If one has seen one lord, they should know what to expect of others.

...Mostly.

There were some exceptions, and among those was the young lord of Noodles, who recently inherited the position after his father died of complications involving foreign, badly cooked noodles.

Properly, the lord's name was Xing-Shu. He insisted on being called by his shinobi name, however, 'Hotohori' (occasionally The Great or Beautiful, but he considered himself humble...).

...The lord was not a trained shinobi, but he saw no reason why he couldn't choose to be the first shinobi-slash-daimyo who also happened to run the land that made the most delicious and tender noodles in the world.

He was extremely charismatic and kind to his people, but to his assistants, he was more...troubling. His insistence on playing the part of shinobi instead of lord meant that he often ran off into trouble, and sometimes rejected hiring out other ninja unless they simply accompanied him as back up. Some might believe this was due to him being cheap.

It wasn't.

The newest group of shinobi, hired as 'support' from another village to help find a kidnapped wife should quickly discover how not about money it is.

The unusually young lord smiled brightly at the small group as he approached, and spoke over his older companions who attempted to give stern instructions. "Ah, fellow shinobi!"
shunshinoshishi: Eddie Peng (Shisui: srs bsns)

[personal profile] shunshinoshishi 2014-05-22 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
What the actual fu-- Fellow shinobi, really? Shisui didn't really receive the memo, but the Hokage did vaguely mention that the Noodle Daimyo was, well, just a bit noodles. Shisui was more than willing to listen to the stern, yet pertinent, instructions of the older individuals accompanying the newly-appointed Daimyo, but nope. No chance of that, apparently.

He shifted his attention -- albeit reluctantly -- to the young Lord, and bowed. "Lord Hotohori." Spoken in acknowledgement, even if Shisui was rather wary of what was in store. As Captain of the team, he really didn't want complications. He was responsible for the well-being of his team members, and should anyone suddenly jump in and make a mess of things--

He would reserve judgement for later, he decided, sighing softly to himself before working up a tiny smile for Hotohori.

problemdaimyo: (The very picture of a lord)

[personal profile] problemdaimyo 2014-05-22 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
...Shisui did get the memo that Hotohori was accompanying them, right?

Right?

Well he is. Surprise, if Shisui didn't. He smiled benevolently at the captain, expression quite fitting of a respected and proper lord...transplanted onto a young man in riding clothes that are probably the best Noodles has for armor.

"Uchiha Shisui, isn't it? I've heard stories of you, and I find it an honor to work beside you." He swept forward then, breezily still ignoring the mumbled misgivings and half-hearted attempts to sway him away from the mission (they tried, it was their duty, they were used to failing by now). "However, the matter is urgent, so we can't spare time for further introductions! We'll have to talk on our feet. An efficient use of time, wouldn't you say?"
shunshinoshishi: Eddie Peng (Shisui: Shunshin no Shisui)

[personal profile] shunshinoshishi 2014-05-22 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
N-- n o...

Maybe that was deliberately left out of the memo because Obito was evil and wanted to punish Shisui. For some reason or the other. Shisui didn't think he'd done anything to deserve any punishment, though--

The smile faded when the man talked of hearing stories about him. Shisui wasn't too fond of the stories people said about him. They were... a bit scary to be honest. He really didn't want to come off as scary. But eh. Shunshin-no-Shisui preceded him.

His head dipped once more in a sort-of-bow, but his eyebrow remained raised as he glanced at the nobleman strutting beside him. "...Is Lord Hotohori to accompany my team on this mission?" The tone of voice then, however, suggested that the Captain was by no means happy with the arrangement.

"I was not informed."

Because if he had been, he would have flat out declined the mission.
abileunaspada: (You're serious?)

Oh good lord this should be interesting

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-05-22 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Support the young lord in his endeavors and make sure he comes to no harm. That was the order she was given when she was hired on the mission, as well as to act under the pretense of only there as back up. That it was the lord's show, and with the degree of difficulty it was ranked as an A-class mission.

Why she took his mission, she had no idea. Adela already felt annoyed just from reading through the mission specs.

There was no doubt that the lord was unused to the normal protocols, and one of her mismatched eyes twitched before she shook her head and tried to force her shoulders to relax, "Lord Xing-shu. Should we get going, then?"

Who knew who the missing woman's kidnappers were, but if it was anything like that slave ring she ran into with Shisui and Ami, things were probably going to get ugly really early on.

Peter was the last person that the young lord probably wanted as backup if he was forever getting into messes, but he was the one a rather too amused Orochimaru had sent.

Probably because they'd both thrown themselves at being a shinobi the wrong way around and his Leader had probably thought this was the best tactic to show the poor man what a terrible idea his attempt was.

That or it was some grand joke and Peter hadn't sorted it out. Either way he was lucky to not be bewildered and gave the man a smile, even though everything inside him was yelling that 'no, really, this man is very much not.'

"Good. At least you're practical about it." Hana hated people who didn't stop to consider whether they could devote the necessary time and energy to caring for pets. The ones who wanted pets selfishly but didn't bother to think of the animals as living things with needs of their own.

Hana's clothes were as simple as usual, fitted shorts and a tighter-than-normal flak jacket. It was unzipped the tiniest bit further than most days due to the heat, but not enough for the difference to be readily noticeable. And to be honest, she never minded drawing eyes. Hana flirted as straightforwardly as she did anything else. She didn't notice any intentional effort on Shisui's part to keep his gaze on her face. Hana wasn't looking at Shisui in the first place. All of her attention was focused firmly on the cat in his hands.

Hana bit the corner of her lower lip lightly with a canine tooth, then took a deep breath, concentrating. She did her best to repair the damage, green chakra glowing for a full minute before stuttering into nothing. If it had been enough, she wasn't sure. Hana thought partial sight was the most likely outcome, but they'd still need to test that.

"One has to be. They're like children; you wouldn't leave your children all alone at home with nothing to eat nor the skills to feed themselves." Shisui probably shared the same sentiment when it came to people who selfishly took in animals and then forgot about backing that up with unconditional love and care. He also particularly couldn't stand the people who took in puppies and kittens but threw them out when they grew into adults. He'd seen one person pour a bucket of scalding hot water over a dog to discourage it from returning to its 'home'.

...Needless to say, he'd yanked the dog before any permanent damage could be done.

Shisui held the kitten as still as he possibly could manage, hoping that whatever Hana was doing would be over soon for the kitten's sake.

The kitten growling made him focus back on the task at hand. "Everything okay?"
