Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Juugo nodded at the second question. He didn't want to hurt anyone. Even damaging trees and earth was its own sorrow, though if he could avoid hurting people, it was a bearable one.

Even this stranger would have to leave so that Juugo could be safe. He was helpful though, and Juugo felt grateful. He'd figured it out, and would help make Juugo be safe, and so Juugo would thank him. No one else would know, but it was better that way. When Orochimaru had discovered it, that had ended in so much blood.

Juugo shuddered. "Is it close by? I'm not safe."

He clung to himself tighter and rocked on his heels. Even if it was calmer right now, there was no knowing how long that would last.

"If that is what's needed."

But Juugo was scared. Scared of dying, and what was beyond. How could he face all he'd killed? Guilt bit at him and wound around him like snakes, and it hurt to breathe, just thinking of it.

He was afraid of it more. And afraid of all the more people that would be hurt if it continued to survive and take control of him. So if that was the choice he had to make, he was so afraid, but he would.

The birds, sensing his distress, chirped and fluttered, and one did its best to provide comfort.

"I won't do it." It was a simple, low declaration. He wouldn't help someone commit suicide again. He'd killed people, many, many people, but it was... very different to help someone die when they wished to. And even if the resemblance was passing... it made something tighten in his chest to hear that kind of sentiment from this boy.

"I can help you, but I will not be the death of you."
abileunaspada: (So you're saying I could use that?)

"There's nothing to be afraid of!" Again she moved to cut him off, though she kept her distance for the moment. Her hands were still held up in a surrendering gesture, making sure that he could see she remained unarmed. He was so scared... It really got to her. She didn't want to see him fearful anymore.

"You're not going to hurt me, not if you don't try to. Please believe me, we're fine and we're in a safe place now. I can lead you to a safer place, and get some food and water for you. Is that all right, sir?"

So -- no one at all. Better for Konoha, maybe, but not so much for Sasuke's trying to figure out what was going on with the stranger at the source of the chakra. The birds on his shoulders shuffled unhappily, reacting to something about the uncontrolled way it seemed to be -- shifting, somehow, hard to pout hims finger on beyond the strange gut-level Fear this.

At least that was one problem to resolve easily -- he turned one cheek into Hoori's fluffy breast, instructing the chick to return to their camp and make sure there were no others in the way. Easily the fastest, the bird dove gracefully off his shoulder and into flight, winging away.

"I've sent him ahead to check for people," he added out loud, just in case the man had no experience with summons -- the birds hovering around him definitely weren't, but if not, then how ... ? "In the meantime, I'm going to need you to tell me what to expect if I help you here. What's not safe about you?"

Help. Orochimaru had said something about helping, curing, and nothing had happened. Only--

Blood, and fighting, and nothing helped. He'd only watched Orochimaru make copies of him, and so many copies died, and others went mad as it took control, and the ones that didn't... Juugo didn't know what happened to them.

Now this man was offering help. He'd helped a little, but how long would that last? How long before it took this man over, since he was taking the chakra that made it?

"He said he would help, and cure me. He only made me fight-- Nothing helped."

"I have no cure for you." It was a simple, clear statement of fact. "I can help, nothing more. If you fight, it will not because I force you to, save to get you to learn control."

He studied him thoughtfully. "I would probably handle that personally since you cannot do me permanent harm. In any case, who is this he who made promises he clearly didn't keep?"

"It."

Juugo didn't want to talk about it. He just wanted to be safe. His fingers dug into his flesh, and the dull pain didn't help but it was there, and that was okay. It didn't really feel pain, or if it did, Juugo never really remembered.

"When it takes control, there's only death. Blood and screaming and... It doesn't stop until there's nothing left."

He couldn't say any more. His knees felt weak, and only the thought of getting somewhere safe kept him from letting the ground have him. He wouldn't be getting back up again if he fell. It probably would.

"It wants to! Don't you understand? It wants to hit you and break you and smear you into the ground! I don't want to hurt you!"

He just had to run faster, get away. It was so close, and he could feel the burn. Black marks would be bubbling in his skin now. Maybe it would scare her away.

He didn't want to hurt her. He didn't.

How did fighting teach control? It only hurt others, and part of Juugo balked at it. But he was helping, could help, and if he was right about not being able to do him harm...maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Juugo wanted so badly not to live like this, always afraid of it coming out.

"Orochimaru."

And the experiments had been almost as bad, painful and scary, but he could have endured those, if only they had helped. This was helping, though, so maybe...

There was immediately a look of distaste on his face when that name emerged, and he gave a light squeeze to the arm he'd been touching.

"That explains quite a bit. If that man had his way I wouldn't even be alive."

"I have, on vacation and during missions. It's nice there, even if it's way too dry," In spite of herself she made a face, looking down at her cup with a smile. That was right, that was when she had Neji as a body-guard, and when they had really started to become friends... For the most part, she had good memories of Suna. Even with the alliance, it felt odd to think that.

Well, it was better than terrible memories.

"I'm guessing that it wasn't so nice in your case, considering..." An absent wave to her state of dress and she smiled, though if the other was going to be embarrassed over it Adela wouldn't bring it up anymore. Hell, she probably shouldn't have brought it up in the first place...

"No, I don't understand. What wants to break me?" She was frowning then, clearly still concerned even as the black marks started to appear. Those... they were clearly chakra-based, from what she could tell. He wasn't an enemy ninja though, his current state was simply too unstable -- even for an act. Just what in the world was going on?

"Look. I can defend myself from whatever it is, I promise. All I want is to talk and to help you, okay? My name is Adela. What's your name, sir?" It was hard to keep her voice level and calm then, and she never let her gaze leave him as she tried to talk to him and calm him down. He had been so at ease earlier, with birds even willing to rest on him. It was alien to see such a gentle person brought to this state.

It. In another place, Sasuke would have pointed out that the description was far from being useful, but here -- with the words that followed -- he was tempted to put a hand on the sword slung over his back. Between the chakra and the clear terror of whatever it was, there was more than enough uncertainty here to make him want a weapon at the ready just in case.

But just in case of what, exactly, still wasn't clear. There was still no indication that the man feared being followed, which led to the bizarre conclusion that he was afraid of something with him. Which would make sense, perhaps, with his desperation for a place away from people, especially with an explanation like that ...

"It's something with you," Sasuke said, carefully. "And you can't control it, can you? Something wrong with your chakra?"

"He smiled, when they died."

Just the thought of the people Juugo had been made to fight, that Orochimaru had made sure it would be unleashed on, made tears gather in his eyes. "Good data" Orochimaru had said. People had died.

So Juugo had left. And now he was here, and didn't know what to do. He looked at the man, wondering what was next.

He reached out, hand moving very slowly so the boy hard warning, and his touch gentle as he brushed his fingertips over his cheek.

"That doesn't surprise me at all. When I was very young he suggested killing me and my friends because we were starving. A mercy he said. You never have to worry about him taking you back to that with me, I wouldn't let him."

He shook his head, giving the boy a faint, amused smile. "Even at my weakest I was stronger than his strongest. Come. There will be no senseless killing done to you here."

Juugo went still. It was-- It was-- The birds suddenly took off, chirping in fear.

Why was he running? Look at the little thing. She was a ninja, and those were ever so much fun to kill!

He turned around, and black that had stained his skin was now moving across it with wriggling edges glowing like burning embers, and changing it into a sickening gray. Over half his face was covered, and the pale orange eye that had been so afraid was now black and yellow, and wild. Worse, he was grinning, and giggling.

"You really should have run! Now I will break you!"

More ember-edged-black spread, and then gray trailed across his skin, and his arm twisted sickeningly, growing in size and with spiky protrusions bursting out of it. The fingers on that hand now ended in serrated spines longer than a kunai. Juugo charged, laughing, and for someone with clearly no training, he was fast, and moreover, he was strong.

"Chakra?"

Orochimaru had talked about chakra a lot during the experiments. It was something ninja had, but Juugo had chakra? Was it his chakra?

"I can't. He said he would fix it, but he only made me fight. Blood, so much blood--"

Juugo grabbed at his hair, wishing the memories would come out as easily as the strands did. The pain was good; he was still here. It was still sleeping. The birds on his shoulders chirped at the motion but didn't move, only hunkered down like they were expecting a storm.

"I need to be safe. I don't want to hurt anyone..."

The touch was unfamiliar, and touch had almost always meant pain was coming before. Pain wasn't a bad thing. Pain meant he was still here and it was not. But Juugo wasn't sure he liked pain very much, otherwise.

He went stiff and tense, but when it didn't hurt he relaxed.

"Do you promise?"

"I do. You will make your own choices here. I may merely suggest alternative options." He pulled back, looking at him thoughtfully. He decided not to speak whatever it was that crossed his mind, instead pushing to his feet.

"You will need a hat."

Yakushi Kabuto | Otogakure

[personal profile] sound_council 2015-01-12 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Returning to Konoha after years away felt like a punch in the gut. Eight years gone, and nothing really had changed. The same shops, the same ramen stand, even the academy was still where it had stood eight years ago.

But Kabuto had changed. This wasn't his home anymore, if it had ever been. Every corner reminded him of Nono, and every curious look sent him back to his time at the achademy, where it was a good day if the teacher remembered his name during roll.

But now...he adjusted the Sound headband, and called his most recent team back from gawking. In truth, they weren't quite ready for the Chunin exams yet, but a new village had to keep up apperances and it wasn't time to reveal their true power yet.

In a few more minutes, the Sound delegation would meet with that of Konoha's, and they'd spend the rest of the day posturing and pretending they weren't sizing up the competiontion and trying to get as much information as possible out of the newcomers. He didn't mind. He'd done this before, taking his teams to various functions across the ninja world, pretending the fool and lulling them all into viewing the Sound as unimportant. But there was a certain feeling of triumph now.

I belong here, he wished he could say. I wasn't worth anything then, but now I have much right to be here as any other representative.

And, because there was still that voice in his head, the one that still thought he wasn't worth being noticed, wasn't special enough to be worth saving, he couldn't help but ask himself. Am I finally worthy of their notice?

... this man didn't even know what chakra was, apparently, despite the increasingly-massive amount of it swirling around him. Wherever he'd come from and whatever his goal had been, there was no way that Sasuke could simply let him go free at this point, even if he didn't seem to want to cause harm.

Though want didn't sound like it factored into it. Blood, Sasuke heard, hand nearly flinching up toward his sword at the movement before he realised it wasn't threatening.

If anything, the stranger looked pained, and the words ... Sasuke had seen and experienced interrogation techniques by now, and he'd learned that the best questioning didn't actually happen in the course of pain, but after. Even if the man tried to give an explanation, the fear running through his system would likely garble it more than not.

That made time their most valuable resource, Sasuke's jaw set as he scanned the horizon for -- there was Hoori's silhouette, circling down to land on the arm he stretched out. "There's a hidden cave close by, less than two hundred metres' walking. There's no one in that area right now, but you'll need to keep it in check until we get there."

They were deep enough in the woods that it would take a significant commotion to draw attention, but with that amount of unharnessed chakra, Sasuke had no interest in taking chances. He gauged the tension in the form in front of him, frowning, and added in the voice he'd learned to use when commanding a team: "I have no intention of allowing you to hurt anyone before we reach it. Or after."

Juugo nodded. He could do that. This sounded like somewhere safe, and real help, so maybe, that would be enough to keep it from ever killing again. And if it wasn't, he could just leave again. If this man wasn't lying, Juugo didn't think he would be stopped.

But the question was confusing. "A hat?"

Ayane, having been several countries removed from the village, had heard nothing of a move (or less likely death), either. Her own visit is very much along the same vein as Takuya's-- effected by familial obligation more than any actual feeling of affection. (Though, she pities her sister too much to hate outright hate her.)

She'd loved her once, even, the way only a little sibling can. But those days are long behind her, the sentiment replaced with something more like a grudging tolerance, some days more grudging than tolerating.

(Some nights, too.)

She stops short of the property entrance, immediately sensing a barrenness to the place. There's no soft flicker of light to read by, no sounds of bustling within the wooden walls. No chakra signatures to be detected save one... Her eyes narrow on the slim figure sitting on the porch, then soften a fraction.

"Hey," she offers in a decidedly neutral greeting as she walks up to her nephew, and retrieves the bag of forgotten groceries next to him. "C'mon, we're eating these at my place."

It's more an instruction than invitation, and she only waits a breath before turning toward their destination.
