Sunshineverse | ||||||||
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Natsumi Uchiha | Original | Konoha
Sadly, this mission she'd come back from had not been D-rank. It had been an A-rank mission, and a stressful one at that. Though Natsumi's injuries were mild enough that medical attention wasn't needed, she was exhausted. Mentally and physically exhausted. She wasn't certain she even had the energy to cook herself dinner, and her hobby was normally what she used to unwind.
It was a long walk home, too. In the end, she decided it would be best to order something for herself. She'd just have to find the closest place that was still good enough to meet her standards. Natsumi devoted almost as much time to becoming a proficient cook as she did to her training, and the only reason she didn't devote more time to cooking than training was because she had relatives and teammates that she didn't want to let down. She had high standards, even for fast food. It took a certain amount of care to make something that wasn't bland and mass-processed.
There was a stand that sold soba noodles that would do nicely. Natsumi arrived, placed her order, and waited while they prepared her meal. As she waited, her eyes began to shut, and she slumped to the side, falling asleep on the shoulder of the person next to her.

Uchiha Natsumi was a fair enigma to Shisui; he couldn't remember interacting with her any more or less than any other casual member of the clan--no, that was wrong. She'd been congratulated for being a woman and awakening her sharingan, and was expected to go far in her career as a ninja. Shisui could count on one hand the number of female ninja from the Uchiha clan who'd awoken their sharingan, so there had definitely been a happy air in the clan upon her jonin promotion.
He considered her, almost dead asleep on his shoulder. If anyone saw them, the rumor mill would fly and he'd likely be ribbed by his father, told it was about time he found a nice wife. And Itachi might be jealous. But it was some obscene time at night in a rather pathetic soba stand. As Shisui frequented it often as the pathetic bachelor who couldn't cook for himself, he hoped that the general population would think him a little classier than to bring a date here.
Besides, she looked worn and scuffed up. Shisui resigned himself to keeping still as he ate his noodles, going through about half the bowl before her own food was set down in front of her. He glanced down at the dark head.
"Natsumi-san, your soba is ready," Shisui spoke softly, a little worried that he might get stabbed if he startled her too much.

She woke up with a jolt upon hearing her name and realizing that the cozy warmth she'd been leaning into was a man's shoulder. Face reddening, she turned and glanced up. That voice was somewhat familiar. Not one she heard daily, but...oh. Uchiha Shisui. She wasn't sure if it was better or worse that she'd fallen asleep on a distant cousin's shoulder. It was still mortifying, and it took every bit of propriety her mother had drilled into her to maintain a composed expression (aside from her rosy cheeks).
"Oh, ah...thank you, Shisui-san. Please excuse me. I'm terribly sorry about that."

Shaking his head, Shisui shifted to sit a little further up. "Mah, don't worry about it. Long mission?" He'd been a bed before. There were many, many worse things he could have been used as.
[OOC: I kind of assumed things in the ramble up there on Natsumi, did I overstep or accidentally trample any headcanon? ^^;;]

"Long enough," Natsumi confirmed with a nod. "It's not very proper of me, but I think the next time I hear someone say that genjutsu is the soft way of doing things, I may just kick that person in the shins."
She doubted anyone in the clan would be that stupid, but she'd certainly heard people make statements like that before. Of course, that was typically people who weren't well-versed in the art and had never been on the receiving end of a master genjutsu user's attacks. She wondered how those people would react to the genjutsu user she and her teammates had encountered on the mission. A solid kick to the shins would be like a love tap compared to what this man could do.
"My teammates and I encountered a master genjutsu user. Someone who was obviously well-versed in using genjutsu for torture and interrogation. If it wasn't for my sharingan..."
She shuddered a little at that. She'd broken free from the genjutsu first and freed her teammates before the enemies could closer in to capture them and carry them off as if they were nothing more than oversized sacks of potatoes. She'd quickly become locked in a genjutsu vs. genjutsu face off, which didn't look like much to an outside observer, but it took more chakra and had been more mentally exhausting than she cared to admit.

He also wasn't expecting a girl, apparently, and he only just kept from avoiding her as she tipped, his head turning to blink down at her as he recognized one of his most peculiar jounins. He wished he could advise this one to just retire... but since he knew she wouldn't, he just wait for something else to happen so she could and hoped it wouldn't be severe.
Still, if she was sleeping on him of all people, she had to be exhausted, and he reached a hand to touch her far shoulder, clearing his throat. "Natsumi-chan, I think you might not realize who you're napping on."

"Please accept my apologies for this rude and sloppy behaviour, Hokage-sama," she said, straightening her posture as best she could in this exhausted state. "May I have permission to go crawl under a rock and die of embarrassment now?"
She felt about ready to do just that. Her only hope was that her mother would never find out about this. Her mother was a loving woman, but a stickler for propriety, composure, and organization who forgave but didn't forget mistakes easily. Over a decade could pass, and Uchiha Noriko would still lecture about it. Occasionally, Natsumi was still lectured about mistakes she'd made in her early Academy days.

Tilting his head, he peered into her face. "Right?"

"You're right, Hokage-sama. I don't think I've got enough chakra left for even a weak fire jutsu to blast a rock away."
Hence eating at the stand at this late hour rather than going home and cooking for herself. She was putting some food into herself so that she could manage the rest of the walk home before crashing. She'd have to consider putting in an application to the police force once she wasn't a bleary-eyed wreck. It wouldn't be opening a restaurant like she really wanted, but she likely wouldn't get to do that until she was well over Kagami's age.

He may never have gotten to know her personally, it's true, but he made it a point to at least know in a general sense about his shinobi, family especially. He'd seen what Fugaku had pushed on Itachi, after all.

"I can do that," she said, not wanting to say no to the Hokage. No matter how kind and understanding he was, one didn't outright refuse the Hokage without a very good reason. "If there are any Academy students who need tutoring in genjutsu, I'd be happy to volunteer. Or I could help the hospital stock up on some antidotes to common poisons."
Skill in cooking loaned itself well to being able to follow precise recipes for poisons and antidotes, and mednins in the hospital were constantly kept busy. She was perfectly content to make herself useful in a variety of ways. If he really wanted her to handle paperwork...well, there were some things that should only be viewed by those of jounin rank, and she wasn't a slob.

He stated it almost idly, then rolled a shoulder in a shrug. "I'm sure the clan would be proud to have more people settled with the honor. In any case, I'll see you at my office starting tomorrow? Just talk to Izumo when you get in and he'll direct you."

She'd only just made jounin last year and some might think that wasn't experienced enough to take on a genin team. At the same time, being an experienced jounin wasn't the same as being a good teacher. There were some excellent and experienced jounin that should probably never be assigned a genin team because they didn't have the kind of personality that was suited to working with freshly graduated rookies.
Natsumi did work reasonably well with kids. Enough, at least, that a few parents in the clan had no problem foisting their children off on her on her days off when they wanted a little peace and quiet. She'd found playing with them a little, occasional reward incentives and creatively unpleasant punishments kept them behaving for her the vast majority of the time. It would be a little different with genin, but she could apply similar principles.
