Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Kashima Naoki | Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne | Kiri

[personal profile] withfocus 2015-03-20 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[1] Genin Naoki, training

At first he'd confined his training in the Silent Killing technique to more tame terrain, covering tile floor with thin layers of wet newspaper to ensure his steps were perfectly silent and even. A step that tore the paper even a little would be a step that would make noise on most surfaces. Once he'd mastered that, he took to more difficult areas, fallen leaves, puddles, areas covered in crackling frost. Slippery gravel and wispy leafy, noisy grass and other plants.

He wasn't at the point where he could track his targets by sound alone, so the heavy mist he used to blanket the training area when it wasn't naturally covered with it wasn't entirely impenetrable. It took concentration to keep his body from giving off light, move silently and quickly, and get into position to attack when he couldn't see his target. It would be time to leave for the chuunin exam in a few days, so he split his time between this and the last of the wind ninjutsu he hoped to use during the exam.

[2] Freshly Chuunin Naoki, courier missions to various villages

The first several missions since his promotions were about in line with what he'd done before becoming chuunin. The difference was, Naoki was now trusted to make the deliveries himself without a jounin to watch over him. Which meant multiple trips to other countries to deliver packages that were too large for birds and too important for other methods... but not so important as to be considered too much for a chuunin. Naoki didn't mind. It was nice to get out on his own.

So when the next village came into sight he picked up his pace a little. The sun was setting, and while he kept the light he gave off suppressed as a matter of course while traveling, he was looking forward to delivering the package nestled safely in his backpack. He'd had few enough opportunities to just look around on previous missions to other countries.

[3] Chuunin Naoki, in Konoha to watch their most recent chuunin exam

Since he could now comfortably keep himself from giving off light even in the midst of battle, he wore less concealing clothing than he had as a younger ninja. Something he was grateful for as he wandered Konoha in the days leading up to the final portion of the chuunin exam. Konoha was very cheerful, with civilians and shinobi alike eating and drinking. Naoki was no exception, browsing the stores and stalls as he snacked on some dango.

No training, no missions. Just relaxing and having fun and reading a few books and scrolls during quieter moments. Naoki thought the Konoha shinobi were odd ever since the chuunin exam he competed in, but they were friendly. Just weird. He gave a polite nod or wave to those he recognized.

Kanji Tatsumi | Persona 4 | Kumogakure

[personal profile] realmenknitplushies 2015-03-21 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
1: On a mission

It's been a long and tiring day, but Kanji's in no hurry to admit to it. Not the most complex thing on the books, true: just another C-rank escort, protecting some merchant travellers on their way between villages around Lightning. He's probably the furthest from home that he's been, sure, but the details...
Just another day. Just the usual routine business.

While the convoy's stopped, he's taking a quick patrol of the area to check what sort of things are lurking. Taking the opportunity to get a bit of practice in, too, though he's not about to let his guard down; swinging a lightning-bolt bladed sword almost as big as he is without much seeming effort.

... Hang on. Did he just hear something?

2: Back home in Kumo
a)
Sometimes a real man just needs real food - sure, a real man doesn't complain at hardship either, but still... Especially after a long trip like that last one. Kanji's treating himself to something at the BBQ house - actually, a lot of somethings. Getting carried away there much, boy?

b)
Doing a little spot of shopping, today; while there's no force in the world that'll separate Kanji from Futsu-no-Mitama as far as he's concerned, he can't get by with the big blade alone. So, here we can see him stocking up on a few other bits and pieces. Hmm, those ropes and lines look damn useful, and with the new tricks he's been working on he's getting ideas... some of those, some of those...

How about a first meeting then.

[personal profile] silverterror 2015-03-22 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
A boy. Not that anyone was really a boy who was a shinobi, even at that age, but still. Sometimes he wondered at the people who were dumped on him. His gaze was cold as he looked the younger over, trying to decide what to do with the younger male, or rather, what he would need to.

"And why have they given me you?"

Naoki was not expecting a warm greeting from the jounin, he hadn't worked with him before, but this was a bit chillier than he was expecting. He didn't fidget or grow nervous under the appraising look Sephiroth gave him, maintaining his usual polite quiet for a moment as he considered the question.

It was not exactly a question he was prepared to answer. Most of his classmates were still genin, and his experience with other chuunin was limited. "I am proficient with water and wind ninjutsu, as well as seals. I have also mastered the Silent Killing technique."

He knew a little about Sephiroth by reputation, but could not see any particular reason he had been assigned to the jounin. He certainly hadn't been given any explanation.

He gave him an arch look. "Not rebellious, not a dangerous bloodline user." He swept his gaze over him and scowled. "So what is your purpose?"
withfocus: (pic#8916515)

[personal profile] withfocus 2015-03-22 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Naoki blinked, and frowned slightly. "My purpose, Sephiroth-san?" Did Sephiroth always get difficult shinobi or those with bloodline abilities? Naoki definitely wasn't either.
silverterror: (Below My Regard)

[personal profile] silverterror 2015-03-22 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. I'm clearly not supposed to subdue you and make you viable to work with a real team, so tell me, why are you here?" His eyes narrowed as he stared him down.
withfocus: (pic#8916508)

[personal profile] withfocus 2015-03-22 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Subdue him. Real team? "I don't know. I've never had any difficulties working on a team before or after my promotion."

Naoki continued to calmly look up at Sephiroth, though he made no attempt to hide his confusion.
silverterror: (You Are A Nothing)

[personal profile] silverterror 2015-03-22 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Are you certain your assignment wasn't in error then? I don't have a permanent team of any sort, so I fail to see your reason for being here. Lack of somewhere else to put you between assignments?" He shook his head once, sharply.
withfocus: (pic#8916508)

[personal profile] withfocus 2015-03-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Was that what this was? An error, or simply somewhere to put him? Both thoughts were disheartening for different reasons. "If it's a mistake, it'll be fixed soon. If it isn't, then we're teammates, whatever the reason."

If Sephiroth didn't have a permanent team, maybe that's why he was here. Shinobi who worked together often worked better together.
silverterror: (I Care Nothing For Your Idiocy)

[personal profile] silverterror 2015-03-22 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I imagine you'll be gone within the week then." He gestured sharply for him to follow. "For now, evaluation."

Uchiha Fugaku | Naruto | Konoha

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2015-03-22 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Konoha
Sometimes in order to get work done, one needed to hide. If there was a true emergency, Mikoto could no doubt find him in a hot second, she being the better half of his mind these days. She knew he was swamped with paper work, so if he was needed, she'd find him.

For his part, Fugaku had found a perfectly generic and tiny office space that looked recently vacated. Someone had moved out of it recently, but Fugaku doubted anyone would be able to find him here. Fugaku listened for a moment, heard no voices, and sighed as he settled down to sort through his papers, uninterrupted by anyone.

Outside Konoha
Fugaku didn't get outside or Konoha often. When he was outside of Konoha, the business was usually pressing business that required an escort. Today Fugaku had neither serious business or an escort. he was in a crowded marketplace, crouched down and examining kebari. It was fanciful to think he'd have time to fish anytime soon, but when one of the members of the force had mentioned this place, it seemed like a decent reason to escape Konoha for an afternoon.

Besides, there had been some recent promotions in the police department, and Fugaku wanted to see how the knew cats would manage their mice while he was away.

"Thank you, I'll take these. Your work is very good," Fugaku said as he handed the vendor some money and packed away his purchases. He stood up and immediately stepped back to catch himself as his stiff hip threatened his balance.

"Uchiha-sama?"

Ami had grown up in the Shopping District, filled to the brim with craftsmen—and, more to the point, craftsmen that had dedicated their lives to their respective arts so thoroughly that it wore out their bodies even as they stubbornly kept on practicing. They were all stubborn, so she and the other children of the District had learned early on how to aid or support the older men without noticeably doing so—or damaging their pride in the process.

Her fingers curled in one of his sleeves, moving back seamlessly with the slight near-stumble. It implied to any passersby that the motion was her fault, out of youthful eagerness, rather than some weakness on his. She peered up at him curiously, a flicker of worry followed by apology dancing through her large eyes. When she felt him catch himself she let go of his sleeve, adopting a repentant expression. "I'm sorry for my forwardness."

[personal profile] wideeyedstare 2015-03-22 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
He wasn't particularly known for his habit of wandering out into the village, usually content to lock himself away and monitor his various information networks from the security of his office, a full-time job, that, but entertaining enough. Today was not one of those days, and as he found his favorite tea shop closed for renovations, a circumstance he was finding highly unfortunate as their cakes were absolutely amazing, he ended up going to his second choice.

The BBQ house really had amazing desserts, and they didn't even look at him oddly when that's all he ever ordered.

It was perfect. Seeing a rather determined looking Tatsumi at one of the tables, he made his way over, hopping up into the seat across from him and settling with his knees to his chest. "Kanji-kun."

Opening up to people's still a little hard for Kanji. When he's been working on being the image of the ruthless, tough shinobi ever since his father's death, the idea that people actually want to talk to him...
It's still a spot strange. Good, but strange.

As such, he's not going to complain at the company - he gives a wave as he spots who's taking up the seat opposite. "Hey," he responds.

L Lawliet | Death Note | Kumo

[personal profile] wideeyedstare 2015-03-22 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Option A: In person

There were times when reports were simply not detailed enough for L's preferences. True, the shinobi that were in his division knew to put as much detail as they could into what they passed along to him, but even then, sometimes it was insufficient.

Which led to days like today, with him out in the field, hands in his pockets as he meandered under the trees to meet up with a contact, or to see the site of a situation for himself. It was a shame that he had issues wiring into the civilian broadcast channels when they weren't directly related to TV shows or movie systems, as it would make things go much more quickly.

an unfortunate price to pay for the use and utilization of chakra. He'd been slowly working on a workaround for some time now, but as it had yet to be perfected for any sort of distance use, he would simply have to continue doing things the long way. With his own eyes.

Still, sometimes he didn't mind being out, and his particular brand of jutsu, while not as good for seeing with the eyes, still let him keep close track of his surroundings at all times. It was an easy enough price to pay to wear white under the shade of trees, to be able to keep such close track of everything while staying casual in every way that really mattered.

It also meant he wasn't surprised at all when another person came upon him near the path, different travel tangent or not. Instead, he just turned his head, watching them curiously to see how closely his readings matched the figure at hand.

Option B: Missive Scroll

To whom it may concern,

I am very curious to know what local stories are being told to the children of your area in the current times. Any input with information to this extent would be appreciated and your help will be noted for future contact.

Regards,
L

Fugaku felt the small hand on his sleeve, giving just enough support to catch himself and cover the stumble. It was a very clever move, practiced and smooth. Fugaku looked down at the small girl and was not surprised to see it was Ami.

Fugaku didn't smile, but he nodded back gravely to the girl in a way that could be interpreted as forgiveness or thanks. "There is nothing to forgive," Fugaku said. He didn't pat Ami on the head, because he'd rather not make like of the maturity she'd shown. Fugaku would have to make sure to mention this incident to Shisui.

He tilted his head, only breaking his intense gaze off the younger man to give the waitress a wide smile as she brought around a dessert without being asked. Excellent. He had the staff here well trained to recognize his needs then. He looked back to the teenager before him, noting how he was sitting in his seat, how much food was in front of him.

"Your recent mission did not go as cleanly as it should have."

It was a statement, not a question.
thelittleprincess: (cats are better than people)

Ami nodded, doing her best to hide the glow of pride that wanted to bubble up at being able to help. "Yes, Uchiha-sama." The team had stopped here on the way back to Konoha, and Shisui had let her have some free time to herself while he kept a weathered eye on Masanori. She had been surprised to see Fugaku, and hadn't been able to stop herself from drifting over to see what he was doing.

Shopping for fishing supplies, apparently. She couldn't cast stones there, even if she wanted to. The bag at her side was full of yarn, thread, and a few cat toys.

Ugh. Did he have to start something like that over dinner? This wasn't the time or the place, as far as Kanji was concerned. He just wanted to eat, dammit.

"... Tch. I've had better ones. But ...it worked out," he replied, a spot defensively, looking in the general direction of a pile of ribs rather than across the table. So there'd been a couple of things he couldn't quite have planned for - what had been going on there? That hadn't been something he should have been dealing with on that rank of mission... he'd been outnumbered. And in the end, he'd been lucky.
wideeyedstare: (Curious glance.)

[personal profile] wideeyedstare 2015-03-22 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
He nibbled on one of the mochi balls with exacting delicacy, watching the blond eat as he nibbled on his sweets. He would have to come back and pester this teenager late it looked like. He knew he wasn't one to fill out reports to his level of detail preference. "That's good to hear Kanji-kun."
disgruntledmountain: (Grim)

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2015-03-22 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Fugaku noted that, even though Ami had chosen a different career path than her family, her bag was filled with yarn (and possibly cat toys or strange hair ornaments). This seemed a little far for an errand, though he supposed her family might be in the market as well. Ami wasn't young enough to need complete supervision even in a strange place, even without her training. Or, she could be here with her team.

"Are you here with your team?" Fugaku asked. He could deliver his comments to Shisui before they were forgotten or buried in the pile of things that awaited him back in the village.

"Thanks." He sighed faintly with relief: sure, he'd have to give the full story sometime. But for now, he could breathe. The whole thing had been just more evidence that he had to get better. Get stronger. Work harder...

Kanji tore into the first piece of meat before remarking - "Gotta say, I'm just glad to be home."

The information game between shinobi villages was a moderately small circle, at least in regards to veterans. By its very nature, the positions had a high turnover weight. Information was worth more than gold, more than blood; it could be the tipping scale in a war, the deciding factor in usurping business, the key turning point between success and failure on a high-stakes mission. The three most powerful factors going into any fight were the information one had about their opponent, how prepared they were, and luck.

The latter was apparently very much on Nanako's side today.

Yagura rarely let her out into the field these days, save for very important missions or her mandatory vacation days. The odds of crossing paths with this man, however, were astronomical. He was as much of a shut-in as she was, these days, if the reports they had scraped together were any indication. Still, she while she wasn't interesting in a fight—she had guards to spar with—that didn't mean she wouldn't pounce on the opportunity.

She stopped walking, smoothing down the casual, civilian-style dress she liked to wear on her days off. "My, my." She beamed at him. "It's certainly been quite some time since I've seen that face in the daylight."

[personal profile] thelittleprincess 2015-03-22 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, sir." She nodded, shifting her stance slightly. A different kind of pride smooth her posture, tilted her chin. "We successfully completed a courier mission ahead of schedule and elected to spend the night here. Sensei is..." She paused, very briefly. "Sensei is escorting Shizuoka-san, and my other teammate was perusing the local herb shops, I believe."

She wasn't certain just what Fugaku's opinion of Masanori was, but given that the boy was the heir of a clan closely tied with the Uchiha clan... Well. Best not to let 'Bakanori' slip out in his presence. Just in case.
