Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

ghostpepper: (attention officially piqued)

sorry this is so late

Solo travels, even those to and from travels seals, were mostly a thing of the past for Kushina. So she was accompanied by one of her ANBU-in-training to investigate a rumor when she became aware of another person nearby. She stopped her escort and scanned their surroundings.

If there was anything that caught Kushina's eye wherever she went, it was bright red hair. After all, she had spent nearly eight years looking out for one of the most common traits of Uzumaki blood. Just a tiny glimpse between the leaves.

"Hello, up there!"

[personal profile] wind_and_whirl 2014-04-26 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The greeting saw Kazue open both eyes and tilt her gaze downward. She didn't shift immediately; though, her puppet did after a beat. The tanuki sat up on her shoulder, turned its head to look at her, then turned its gaze back downward and leaned forward. Too far forward, really, as it began to flail comically after a beat. She reached calmly to steady it, well aware that by any puppeteer's standards, such antics were needless, but they typically served her well enough when it came to creating an easier atmosphere. That, and she enjoyed her puppet and plays and was more than confident in her ability to feel such displays were anything but compromising, so she smiled, and all that much more comfortably for the lack of hostility she detected.

"Hello," she said, gently tipping her tanuki puppet so that he stood upright on her shoulder again. "I was wondering when someone would show around here. It's been quiet most of the morning."

'Most' being the keyword and while that relatively good news, it did make for a rather boring time. Looking the young man over curiously as well as for an identifier, she shifted just so now, pulling herself up a bit straighter against the trunk of the tree whose branch she was perched upon.

"Sorry about him. He's pretty excitable," and with that, she gestured to the puppet at her shoulder.

pshhhh late shmate you are perfect and I am so sorry for the tl;dr

[personal profile] wind_and_whirl 2014-04-26 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It was the greeting that caused Kazue to pause and open one eye. Perhaps it was the energy, too, but once that one eye was open, the second was quick to follow for just how bright the hair of the woman hailing her was. She had seen all sorts of darker and ruddy colors in Suna natives' hair, but none quite as bright as her own apart from that of her mother, who had told her that their bright red was indeed a trait of the clan from which they hailed, the very same about which they had and continued to be quiet about in recent years in Sunagakure no Sato despite their quiet pride and the reestablishment of Uzushio.

To see someone with hair so bright, though, and so far removed from Suna's borders caused Kazue to shift and straighten against the trunk whose branch she was perched upon for a number of emotions that hit her, and fast, and about which she wasn't entirely certain. Uncertainty was a great one alongside curiosity and, strangely, a measure of excitement and -- well, she couldn't place all of them before she was attempting to rein them in, but she knew very well that they related to the same predicament she held to as an Uzumaki raised proudly, yet quietly in Suna for own protection and who, for all intents and purposes, was... conflicted for that same reason when it had happened that Uzushio had been reestablished and her mother had struck out almost immediately to assist there. As she herself had been left in Suna and continued to advance as a kunoichi there, it wasn't as though she had knowingly met other clan members in the past and the possibility that this woman was one was enough to give her pause that much more strongly than her evident escort. Unprecedented? Well, yes, in a manner of speaking.

"Hello down there," she returned after a beat, a smile spreading across her face before she quite realized or understood the why. Her inherent energy saw her quickly recovering, the tanuki at rest atop her shoulder waving. "I'd apologize, but I don't guess I startled you in the slightest, did I?"
ghostpepper: (well isn't this too good to pass up)

tl;dr is perfectly fine <3

"Nope, I'd be one dead kunoichi if I couldn't tell if someone were nearby."

She cracked a grin and waved off her companion, who respectfully took a few steps back. Kushina craned her neck around until she got a slightly better view of the girl and the waving tanuki. Interesting. Maybe she was an Uzumaki.

"Should I come up to talk or will you come down?"
silverterror: (Failing To Judge Your Sincerity)

[personal profile] silverterror 2014-04-27 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
He peered at her for a moment, aware of what she was doing, then took it from her. The woman obviously dealt with shinobi on a regular basis. A civilian from a hidden village then? Very open to his presence and not frightened though, so that ruled specific ones out...

He inclined his head slightly and brought the cup up to sip.
silverterror: (So Easy To Mock)

[personal profile] silverterror 2014-04-27 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
His eyes narrowed slightly, noting her anxiety, the way she was practically fluttering in place without moving at all. And here he was, having done nothing yet at all. How disgraceful. He stepped closer, his hand moving, resting on the hilt of the Masamune at his side as a slow, rather mocking smile crossed his lips.

"Of course. Do you remember your goal Adela?"
abileunaspada: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Yeah so what's that mean?)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-04-27 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
No movement was missed as she watched him, her own hand slowly mimicking his in order to rest on the hilt of her own katana. If he was giving her this kind of time, it had to be a test. If he wanted her dead, he would have killed her already, right...?

"... To be your equal, I haven't forgotten," She responded, quiet as she looked on and tried to figure out just what he was trying to do, "Why're you asking?"
silverterror: (Below My Regard)

[personal profile] silverterror 2014-04-27 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Do you know my reputation?" The tone was low, not sharp so much as... highly focused, and he didn't stop walking, gaze hunting for a suitably clear area.

Causing a forest fire was hardly on the agenda.
lostmarauder: (Happy!)

[personal profile] lostmarauder 2014-04-27 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
He looked to the animal... puppet? that she had on her, then back to her face, giving her a tentative smile as he tried to decide how to feel about the girl overhead. She didn't seem hostile at least, so that was something he could work with.

"It's totally fine. So.... What's special about this bit of path?"

[personal profile] supersaiyadork 2014-04-27 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just on my way home from a long trip. I'm looking forward to seeing my friends and family again, really.

[He nods, knowing that what he's been saying is also nothing but true. Granted, he's hiding that he's just been on a mission as a shinobi, but the girl doesn't need to know that.

She really doesn't look well to him though... He wouldn't feel right just leaving her alone. Maybe he could at least keep her company for a while.]

If you're headed north, maybe we could walk together for a little bit? Before we have to split paths, at least.

[personal profile] supersaiyadork 2014-04-27 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ah - it's Gohan, and yours ma'am? [He's trying to be polite as he can, bowing slightly with the introduction. Phew, it doesn't seem like he's made her too mad or struck her as off. It's better to keep it that way, since he's a guest in this village.]
fireire: (sobbinq) (I think I just saw somebody hide)

[personal profile] fireire 2014-04-27 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think there's anyone in Kiri who doesn't." The reply is simple and blunt. There were a lot of things that Ava was sometimes unaware of- she never cared for politics and thus did her best to stay out of them considering Kiri's unstable nature. Still, even she caught wind of things, which said something.
fireire: (sobbinq) (I think I just saw somebody hide)

[personal profile] fireire 2014-04-27 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Why?

[It's not that she doesn't trust him.... It's just that she DEFINITELY doesn't trust him. Everyone is an enemy when you're from Kirigakure, after all, and you never know who has ulterior motives out on the roads.]

"I'll come down."

There was no harm in it and even if Kazue hadn't been spotted, she had both given her position away and was due to move in short order, regardless. That, and it would probably put the woman's escort at ease if both his charge and the kunoichi that had drawn said charge's attention were both on the ground, not to mention easily seen and identified as opposed to hidden among the leaves as she was. Bearing this in mind, she casually swung her leg to join the other in hanging off over the branch, at which point the tanuki jumped to stand atop it at her side. Gripping the branch lightly, she pushed off and found her feet on the ground in short order, her landing softened for a careful application of chakra. Straightening, she gave herself a light dusting only to pause and open her hands in just enough time to catch the tanuki puppet that had tipped after her. She caught it upside down and it seemed to flail for it, its tail twitching comically even as she righted it and it took to her shoulder again with a nuzzle of her cheek.

For all that she stood proud, it couldn't be said that Kazue stood very tall. At fifteen years, she was roughly five feet, four inches, but she owned it all and looked every bit her lineage with pale skin, long, bright red hair given to uneven bangs that extended a little more than halfway down her back, and eyes the color of the blue sea. Her apparel was suggestive of a sand kunoichi with the addition of desert colors, fingerless gloves, and a slimmer flak jacket, the last quietly asserting her minimum rank. Her forehead protector was indeed one of Suna's and worn proudly about her neck as opposed to properly, which was likely telling. For her physical revelation, she was very attentive to any physical cues from both the woman and her escort. Only the naive dropped their guard without proofs of trust in non-hostile initiations and they often easily lost something priceless for it.

"It would be nice to talk for a while, actually," she said, a smile still tinging her expression. "I've discovered this road can be a pretty lonely one. Ah, you are...?" And how strong are you? But the second was a question left unasked despite her brewing curiosity.

"It's the only one without animal tracks," Kazue said, motioning to the lightly trodden dirt path edging further into the wood. "Usually, there's something in a place like this, but this one? Not so much as a little bird scratch."

And that? That made it a point of interest to the sand kunoichi, who turned her head and regarded the path for a moment. Usually, when a place such as that was without any sign of animal activity when there were, in fact, animals out and about, that meant someone had made it that way and that someone had something they were trying to hide. What, she couldn't say, but every time she had crossed this particular path, it was exactly the same in that it was swept and dusted clean of any and all natural tracks. The tanuki at her shoulder reached to tap her cheek even as she quietly measured both the path and the boy, the latter being deemed an unlikely threat.

"You wouldn't happen to be familiar with this area, would you?" She asked, her smile lost for the moment for her curiosity.

Uzumaki Kushina. [No need to bog him down with titles, that's boring stuff. If he's heard anything about Uzushio, he'll have heard of her. If he hasn't, whatever. One less person tripping over themselves refusing to give her any other honorific than "-sama".]

If no one's told you yet, welcome to Konoha.

Mission

[When a Medic Nin was needed for missions, Maria was the one to talk to. She had the abilities to keep Shinobi stable and get them back safely for further medical treatment when needed. It was invaluable for the field especially in the case of rescue missions.]

[If only she didn't have a temper and Taijutsu to go with it. She should've just become a Kunoichi, but no, something about trying to be a Medical Nin caught her attention more. It wasn't anything she was going to talk about openly either.]

[On high alert, she landed in the next tree and paused, listening closely with her eyes darting around. They had just exited the Land of Fire. Who could say where or when opposition would decide to show up. The coast appeared clear, but she was willing to wait for a second confirmation.]

Chuunin Exams

[Once again, the Chuunin exams have begun and she was watching the Genin as they go through each stage of the examination. As always, it was a mixed bag of nuts in attendance. Got the pompous students and the prodigies, the quiet ones, the cool kids, the eccentrics, and the ones that don't exactly have a category. If she'd become a shinobi, she would've been that second to last one, but then again, she wasn't supposed to be here to judge.]

[Maria was here for one thing and one thing only: treating people that needed it. When the tougher portion of the exams start, some genin always got out of hand or did something beyond stupid trying to remember a jutsu and needed an immediate evac out as a result. Well, she'd keep a tally of how many it was this year just like the previous years before.]

[Uncrossing her arms, she turned and blinked at the arrival, eyes narrowed slightly.]

Yeah? What's up?

[She was expecting to be sent in or some topic to be brought up; hopefully, nothing personal. Anything beyond that, she couldn't imagine why they'd bother approaching her.]

At nearly 30 years the girl's senior, Kushina was about the same height. And out of habit, she had donned her Konoha mission outfit. It's easier to travel in, she had reasoned years ago at the first and only protest. The only replacement was her forehead protector in favor of Uzushio's, to show she was on business for them. The same spiral pattern was etched into the animal mask of her guard. The guard was a head taller than her, lean and muscular from what could be seen past his armor. A bit reminiscent of Kiri's styles though.

A Suna kunoichi, hm? She'd only heard of one Uzumaki from that area, hadn't had a chance to meet her in person though. But words do travel through the grapevine rather quick when most of the villagers are distantly related at a minimum. She studied Kazue for a minute once she was out of the tree. The tanuki perched on her shoulder was a puppet, something more noticeable now that there was less distance between them. She definitely had some Uzumaki physical traits.

"Mm, you're the first person we've seen all day," she agreed. "--Oh! Yes, introductions. This quiet guy behind me is Wolf, and I'm Uzumaki Kushina. And who might you be?"

Not any village he would have reason to know about, given that Otogakure was still flying relatively low on the international radar, but he was certainly on the right track. There was little point in being scared of even a man like Sephiroth, when her own master garnered only the highest respect. Ashiko poured a little more into her own cup—just one more silent reassurance that he wasn't being taken for a ride—and followed suit, savoring the mouthful and companionable silence.

She opted to let him break it, if he wanted.

[She had been going one way, Gohan had been going another. When they're not in Konoha, she has to be on her best behavior and not answer everything with violence first. Still, she had the right way and was mixed with a group; how could this collision not be deliberate?]

[Maria could go off right now, but he's already apologized and it doesn't feel like he's trying to deceive her. History between Konoha and Kumo would be enough for her, but she's going to be well-behaved if it kills her... or him. Whichever snaps first; hopefully it was his spine second - not in her medical training. She had to focus.]

Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. [For the sake of the exams, she's actually bothered to wear her Medical-Nin coat. It's unzipped for multiple reasons, but mostly due to 'assets'. He would be able to see her Konoha headband around her waist though.] Shouldn't you be paying attention to your surroundings?

[OOC: Hope it's not too late to test drive with you.]

"Come on now, guys." Yuichi bared her teeth in a patronizing grin that showed exactly none of the terror bubbling up in the pit of her stomach at the glowering young men that had confronted her on her way back from a grocery run in the nearby village. They had been customers, once, which meant that she had plenty of reason to be nervous about the clenched jaws and dark looks they were shooting her. "I did warn you, didn't I? I specifically remember saying, potions are all about intent—and it has to be pure." She gave each of them a long once over, then sighed and tugged on the wide brim of her hat. "honestly, if you each used a love potion to one-up each other, how could it do anything but poison her against you both?"

The shorter and stockier of the pair had the grace to look a little abashed—score one for the witch, she had at least read the situation right—but the taller and lankier teen's look only grew more vicious and he took a threatening step forward.

Yuichi sensed a slow build of chakra from what she knew to be a nearby transportation seal frequented by Mist-nin, and acted fast. Just like she always did. The redhead kissed her teeth and shook a finger chidingly. "Ah-ah-ah. None of that." She smiled, poisonously sweet. "After all...didn't your mother ever tell you not to menace a young woman who could summon demons to menace you right back?"

From behind her, right on cue, she heard a soft poof.

The jilted young men stared, paled, and fled screaming. Deep, deep beneath her cheery mask, Yuichi whimpered. She had expected the entrance to be enough, but if an eyeful of the actual shinobi was enough to make them run away...well. Mist slung the title of 'Demon' around a lot, but truth be told it was often well-warranted. Nevertheless, Yuichi was a showman, a charlatan, and a proud swindler—fear was just not something she could afford to show anybody.

So she turned, slinging her broom up against her shoulder, and flashed a peace sign and a megawatt grin up at the incredibly tall, incredibly intimidating man who had inadvertently helped her. "Yo! Welcome to my forest, shinobi. What can this humble, magnificent witch do for you this fine, fine day?"

He leaned forward, just a touch, and stared her down, eyebrows lifting as he practically purred, tone completely mocking.

"So you're punishing me, then?" She wanted to snarl, to get angry, but... She couldn't. Not at him. Still, she felt at a comfortable distance as her grip tightened around her katana's hilt, readying herself for whatever would come. He probably saw her either as a traitor or a runaway, though from what uncle had told her the clan wouldn't separate the two. She also knew that the clan as a whole would want her alive because of the blow-up almost a year ago then, but now... Now she wasn't not so sure that she'd leave alive. Or at all.

But why did Sephiroth have to find her? Was this chance, or was he planning it? It was impossible to tell with him. Was he the same cousin she looked up to as a child, or had she really not known him at all? Was he there to take her back, to execute her, or simply to test her? Again, she simply couldn't figure it out.

He didn't, for a while, instead just examining her, and their surroundings, the way she'd neatly set the bodies aside, but how it looked to have been an effort rather than something someone with a shinobi's strength could do.

"I gather they assaulted you?"
