Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

"Ah? Yes. I'm nowhere near up to the skill of one of the people in my village though. She's a marvel." He eased away from the trees slowly, a little reluctant to just throw himself out there but... amenable.

Haku nodded, settling back as the man stepped out from the trees. In this world of shinobi, no one was all that trusting and he'd just gleaned that this person was from another village.

"Well I'm nowhere near that level of skill myself, but we might be able to learn from each other."

To his statement, Rui smiles in commiseration. Anything was better than the last mission. All the wasted hours listening to words that amounted to exactly nothing in the long run. She wasn't built to deal with platitudes and politics. A fact that she was fairly certain the mission desk was aware of.

"Maybe we'll get lucky." One could only hope that they would. It would go a lkng way kn satisfying her own desire to move if it entailed some amount of fighting. Still even if it didn't there was a chance she could help with his desire for a fight if in a small sense. Assuming he wasn't opposed to a spar in the interim.

"I'm sure you could work out some of your need for a fight when we get back." Not the same as the real thing but spars could be relaxing in their own way.

If you have time. A statement harmless if no other thought was put into it. But From Father to Son, from Fugaku to Itachi, specifically, it was double-edged. Meant to pull him into offering himself for the work both out of obligation, yet without making a direct demand.

He honestly wouldn't have been surprised if Fugaku had worded it as a demand, he was his Father, superior, and clan head, after all. It meant he was treading carefully, wanting to see if he would do it of his own volition testing to see just how badly he wanted to be here.

He'd long ago caught onto it. Accepting runs the risk of showing reluctance, and denying simply shows disrespect, and he might not want to be around often nor throw himself into his duties as heir-to-be, but he still didn't want to blatantly disrespect his Father.

"What sort of damage has it sustained?" he asks, instead, keeping his calm expression, though turning his gaze back to the kitten in his lap, who had started off with a quiet purr.

Sasuke, short of any jutsu that wasn't designed to incinerate, electrify, or pulverize, wound up with tea leaves thoroughly embedded in his hair and (extremely uncomfortably) escaping down into the wide Uchiha collar. His attempt to step out of the way only meant that he bumped up against the shelf of grains behind him, leaving him stabilizing yet another rickety shelf while tea leaves rustled out of every conceivable nook and cranny of his person.

And accused of being too active. Sasuke's gaze snapped to the speaker already narrowed in a glare, even as he tried to set the grain shelf back into whatever precarious balance it had been existing in.

"What? You're the one who let in the wind that knocked everything off."

... an entirely immature response to have, but he had tea leaves poking sharply at very unpleasant areas.

"I frightened you, kid?" Though it's phrased as a question, it's clearly not, and there's a kind of resignation pulling at the edges of his smile.

The attempt at a joke makes him chuckle a little as he processes the new information. An herb shop? There aren't that many in Kiri, and Kisame has little need to visit for the remedies--now salves for his gills in hot, dry weather, and to keep his skin from getting sunburned, he has great need of those--so he's not familiar enough to immediately place the kid and shop.

"Which shop is this one? And if you run out when the cold sets in, that's a mission for the Genin, eh? Send them somewhere warmer to gather what you need."
not_thedragon: (Default)

[personal profile] not_thedragon 2014-11-26 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
... it was definitely Sasuke's imagination. As far as he was aware, the only things that brought smiles to his father's face usually involved fire in large concentrations, and even then only very rarely. Sasuke could probably count on one hand the number of warm expressions he'd seen on Fugaku's face that weren't brought out by Mikoto.

At least his choice of conversation change seemed to have worked out, Sasuke glancing back out the shop window at the rain, now less a proper storm than a drizzle. An abject drizzle, but a sign at least that the weather was letting up. As for digging a bed for the bulbs, that definitely sounded like a project his mother wanted done more than anything else.

Sasuke had been away from home far more often than usual this past season, which was normal for a ninja at his age but also meant he had something akin to second-son guilt when he thought about the seasonal traditions that had once been his job to help his mother with. Before he'd properly thought about it, he'd offered: "I'm in town for the next few days. I can help Mother with that."

Well, that was as good as a sign that Sasuke needed to come clean or come up with a damn good lie. He'd gotten good marks in subterfuge most in the 'sneaks and hides' department, not so much the 'telling convincing lies' department, but every shinobi needed to practice the skill at some point.

Then again, neutral territory with another shinobi from a village at peace with Konoha (however tenuously) was probably as good a place as any to simply admit to trailing the stranger. That, and if this Kiri-nin were anything like the ones he'd run into so far, he'd be wasting his time being anything other than direct, anyway. Sasuke stepped into the shop with the thought and nodded briefly at the front of house, heading directly for the man's table.

He pulled out the chair across from the man, with enough scraping of chair-legs to wake any ninja from a slumber, and sat. Arms loosely folded, he waited to see what response the change in tactic was likely to provoke.

"It's not luck that we'll need, eh?" Kisame chuckles, and gives Rui an amused, appraising look. Skill in coming in at the right time was also necessary, and Kisame knows when new missions usually tend to be delivered to the dest. Better picking then.

"And suggesting a spar, Rui-san? I would enjoy that. The training fields outside the Hoshigaki compound once we've both had some time to rest?"

Kisame could have suggested a more neutral training ground, because while it was technically public, so many Hoshigaki had used and altered it over the years to suit their needs that it was theirs in spirit, if not in name. He's familiar there, though, and there's something to be said for familiarity.

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-26 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Kisame's eyes didn't even flicker. A closer look would reveal that there was a tiny sliver peaking out under the eyelid. Usually not enough to see by, but what was behind was dark, almost black. Kisame could see just fine, and even if he couldn't, he'd grown up in Kiri and was perfectly adept at using his other senses.

The chair was a little bit insulting. As if he hadn't noticed the tail coming through the door. So Kisame snorted a little, but kept his voice quiet. "Too loud, kid. But I'll give you one for knowing when you were spotted."

And now it was the kid's turn. Kisame was almost eager to hear what the excuse would be, and took another sip of his tea, mostly failing to hide the sharp-toothed grin.

"Forgive me. It's not every day you meet one of Kirigakure's Seven Swordsman."

And it wasn't untrue, only he worries that perhaps they'd somehow found out his secret and sent this particular swordsman to kill him. But no, that's impossible.. He just has to be careful, and right now he can't afford to be caught in a lie or do anything to set this man on edge.

"Our shop is the Water Dragon Botanicals in the middle ring of the village if you'd ever like to visit, shinobi-san." Haku reaches down to snap a plant from the grass, and takes a moment to ostensibly examine its leaves before placing it with the others he's gathered.

"And I've heard Kirigakure's shinobi are highly-trained, but it takes a very close eye to pick out some special herbs from their more deadly relatives. The shop owner trusts me, and I don't mind it myself."

"I suppose it's not, but it's not something you should be unprepared for either, eh?"

Kisame is amused at the answer. There may only be seven--on a good day when one of them hasn't been killed again, or worse--but they all do spend time in their home village. But the mention of the shop gives him something else to think about.

"Old Tsubaki-san's place not far from the Hoshigaki compound? I know his work; it's good."

Not that Kisame ever visited himself, not since he was young enough to be the Hoshigaki stuck on that particular errand, but enough of the family benefited from those salves that it is a regular one and Kisame appreciates the benefits enough to have an invested interest in keeping the shop going.

So he drops down into a crouch, adjusting Samehada who is still active and twitching beneath the wrappings, and rests his forearms on his knees.

"True enough, but travel to other countries can be taxing for ... civilians." There's just a little emphasis there, to see what reaction he can get out of the kid. This one has actual chakra--a rare feat in true civilians--and the chakra is enough to get Samehada's attention, so something is up.

It was something between a spar and a dance. They both knew the steps well, and it's scripted to a point. Itachi's unerringly polite, difficult to pin down unless one uses both speed and force. It reminds Fugaku heavily of interrogating repeat offenders or long time informants with their own agendas and secrets. It strikes Fugaku that his son is not a child anymore, nor has he been for many years.

"It," Fugaku says at last, not bothering to hide his pause. "Is old. Old things do not particularly need anything to happen to them to need maintenance." But Fugaku doesn't think Itachi's ever had to manage a house and make sure it's sealed tight for the winter.

Fugaku wonders, really, what his son knows about maintaining things. Keeping difficult machines that break themselves down running, managing unpleasant tasks simply because no one else will do them.

"If you do not have time, I can ask someone else." Fugaku looked to the slackening rain. "I understand that you are busy."
disgruntledmountain: (Kind of smile)

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-26 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
When it came to Mikoto, Fugaku felt he could always count on finding Sasuke helping her with whatever project she had going on. "I'm sure she would appreciate it." And no doubt could find several other things that needed doing while Sasuke was digging the bed...it was that time of year. But, only in the dead of winter were there things that didn't need tending in the garden or taking care of in the house.

Well, the house if they were lucky.

Fugaku slowly stood up, trying to disguise the stiff way his hip stretched shifting the kitten in his lap to the crook of his arm and picking up his basket as he stood. He could tolerate a drizzle, and the kittens were just going to have to stand it. "Are you going to take him back out to hunt?" Fugaku inclined his head to the bird, since his hands were full.

He's not sure what to make of the swordsman crouching down to his level, or the way the man still towers over him doing so. He clutches the basket a little tighter and his smile strains. The way civilian is thrown at him makes his spine straighten. Is that suspicion? Haku forces a laugh.

"Yes, I hear you shinobi just use transport seals? But there's no need to worry, shinobi-san. I'm stronger than I look."

She's figured out when new missions hit the desk, it just seemed that even if she was around at that time she still got stuck with the most unwanted assignments. It left her believing quite strongly she was being punished for something, though only the Mizukage knew what. "Most likely not this time."

"It's been a while," she says shrugging slightly. Which was to say she was curious if she'd made any progress and Kisame was the safest person to test that out with.

"You'll let me know when you're ready." She doesn't phrase it as a question, nor does she protest the location. She's long since used to the idea that any time they'll spar it's likely to be on the one training ground he's most familiar with. She's actually stopped caring that once could interpret the whole spar as a trial by fire.

Shishito Nanako | OC | Kirigakure

[personal profile] pursuitoftruth 2014-11-27 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Being a member of the Torture and Interrogation department of Kirigakure had limited the time Nanako had spent outside the village, whether it was for business or pleasure. The moment she had accepted her promotion as theHead of T&I in its entirety, that time dramatically shortened—to the point that she essentially lived in her office, deep in the bowels of her village. It was a very nice office, and it gave her plenty of time to read and write, but there were times when she missed the sun, the sounds, the traces of life aside from her staff and the assets they worked with. She loved them all like her very own children—mostly—but every so often she need a breath of literally fresh air.

And her vacation days piled up.

So, one such occasion saw her here, a few islands south of Kirigakure proper and enjoying a nice, brief vacation at a moderately popular tourist spot during the off-season. Given just how much she knew about... well, everything, she had guards with her, but by and large she was free to roam as she pleased. She was currently set up on a bench overlooking the sea, wrapped in a thick, comfortable shawl as she worked her way through her third mystery novel of the week.

"The lazy ones do! When speed is necessary, they are useful, but otherwise, it's better to move under your own power, eh?"

Kisame's smile goes downright predatory. "I already know that, kid. Do you know the name of my blade? It's well known."

He sits back on his heels, looking completely relaxed, but confident. He'll find out soon what that chakra is, he's sure. The kid is tense and while not quite hostile, obviously not happy.

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-27 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Kisame laughs, and it's more genuine than most of his laughs. "I'm ready now, but I think we'll both appreciate a little time to get rid of the road dust before we spar."

He obviously hesitates, but he knows he should have taken a seal, and now that his thoughts have been cleared by the promise of a spar and a good mission, what is waiting for him at home intrudes again, but he's more relaxed about it.

"Speaking of necessary things, I'm certain paperwork has piled up in my absence. I will be expected to take care of it before seeing to my own leisure. I should hurry back so we can get to that spar, eh?"

With that he drops a very brief bow in her direction and speeds up. Kisame is almost hoping she'll keep pace, because he'd enjoy the company, but he's aware of his stamina.

The smile freezes on his face and slowly fades as the atmosphere charges. It was meant to be a very subtle warning and mostly an innocuous remark, but this shinobi isn't buying any of it. Those sharp teeth prove that much on their own. No, he's suspected, and as pieces click into place, Haku suddenly knows who he's dealing with.

"Hoshigaki Kisame," he supplies. "Wielder of Samehada and Monster of the Mist. Yes, you're quite famous." His chin lifts, dropping all pretenses of surveying the plants around him to watch his potential enemy. "I'm honored you'd take time out to speak with me."

Kisame was glad to be appointed one of her guards. Shishito-san was someone he greatly respected, and it was an honor to be there to end anyone who might pose a threat. Maybe they'd be able to spar together at some point during the vacation.

Possibly wishful thinking but he was allowed sometimes. They'd both been so busy so often, so this was virtually a vacation for him too. At least at this time of year the sun wasn't too punishing, though he'd need to put more salve on his gills soon, as it was still warm enough to start eventually irritating.

Otherwise weather was pleasant, and the salt air invigoration, and the job of making sure no threats came close enough of a challenge to keep him from getting bored. He's content, if missing Samehada, which was deemed too much of an obvious draw for this vacation. As if the natives wouldn't recognize a Hoshigaki when they saw one, but Kisame will not be complaining anytime soon.

It makes them keep their distance, thus further insuring Shishito-san's safety. But, he should see to his charge's comfort too, even if this is a guarding mission. "Is there anything you need, Shishito-san?"

She marks her page with a finger and looks up, smiling pleasantly. "Ah, Kisame-kun." She pats the spot next to her. "Sit with me?" She nods her head gently back towards the hotel, where a pair of businessmen seemed to be conferring over something and glancing around nervously. "Those children over there are trying to muster up the courage to start a holiday fling."

One is married, and the other was a chronic bachelor, from what she had noticed between chapters. The married man had a history of affairs, and is encouraging his friend; if the friend does not take the chance, the married man will try his luck. At least, that's the plan until Kisame approached her. "I trust everything else is going as sluggishly and peacefully as this place deserves?"

"Why wouldn't I?"

Kisame tips his head to the side, obviously looking Haku over, assessing him like an interesting puzzle. "Someone dressed and playing the part of a civilian but with chakra like yours? If you were a spy and I did not investigate, I would be failing my duties to Kirigakure."

The next moment is when things will be made clear. Kisame fights down a shiver of anticipation. "So tell me about this chakra of yours. Be honest now, kid."

Old things wither. They rust. They degrade. But some still need some form of wear and tear-- damage, to degrade faster. Some things can never be repaired properly, and must eventually be replaced with new things.

Fugaku would be on the mark though. With his missions, his focus is on shinobi life, and he does not know how to maintain a building nor any machinery.

Your firstborn cannot even cook for himself, Fugaku. Unless you plan on his wife always cooking his meals...

He knows how to maintain his weapons. His clothing, for travel. His health, to a degree, though he is still occasionally keeping medicine. Most of all, he knows how to maintain secrets.

"Actually." he decides, brows raising just slightly, as he too comes to his own decision.

"It is something I'd like to learn." Yes, he does pick up quick, he is known for his intelligence, and as a teacher sorted it, his ability to teach himself, but he cannot go into something like this without any reference point or guide.
