Test Drive Post!
Sunshineverse | ||||||||
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

totally making things up on the fly; feel free to alter as you see fit
Kisame is amused at the answer. There may only be seven--on a good day when one of them hasn't been killed again, or worse--but they all do spend time in their home village. But the mention of the shop gives him something else to think about.
"Old Tsubaki-san's place not far from the Hoshigaki compound? I know his work; it's good."
Not that Kisame ever visited himself, not since he was young enough to be the Hoshigaki stuck on that particular errand, but enough of the family benefited from those salves that it is a regular one and Kisame appreciates the benefits enough to have an invested interest in keeping the shop going.
So he drops down into a crouch, adjusting Samehada who is still active and twitching beneath the wrappings, and rests his forearms on his knees.
"True enough, but travel to other countries can be taxing for ... civilians." There's just a little emphasis there, to see what reaction he can get out of the kid. This one has actual chakra--a rare feat in true civilians--and the chakra is enough to get Samehada's attention, so something is up.
nope just making shit up myself
"Yes, I hear you shinobi just use transport seals? But there's no need to worry, shinobi-san. I'm stronger than I look."
no subject
Kisame's smile goes downright predatory. "I already know that, kid. Do you know the name of my blade? It's well known."
He sits back on his heels, looking completely relaxed, but confident. He'll find out soon what that chakra is, he's sure. The kid is tense and while not quite hostile, obviously not happy.
no subject
"Hoshigaki Kisame," he supplies. "Wielder of Samehada and Monster of the Mist. Yes, you're quite famous." His chin lifts, dropping all pretenses of surveying the plants around him to watch his potential enemy. "I'm honored you'd take time out to speak with me."
no subject
Kisame tips his head to the side, obviously looking Haku over, assessing him like an interesting puzzle. "Someone dressed and playing the part of a civilian but with chakra like yours? If you were a spy and I did not investigate, I would be failing my duties to Kirigakure."
The next moment is when things will be made clear. Kisame fights down a shiver of anticipation. "So tell me about this chakra of yours. Be honest now, kid."
no subject
"I am a civilian, Hoshigaki-san. Many clans scattered after the last civil war, into hiding or fleeing the country. It's something you should understand."
no subject
"A true civilian wouldn't have chakra we could track, kid. But I will accept that you haven't had any formal training." The hard expression tips into a small, crooked, smile. "I'd be bleeding by now if you did."
That's when the Water Clone is released and splashes all over the ground. A second later Kisame steps out from behind a tree, still in the direction Haku is facing, and leans against the tree with his arms crossed over his chest.
"So a bloodline kid, running from the usual trouble that tends to follow families in our clans. I wonder why you stayed, given the risk. Konoha, for one, I'm sure would love another of Kiri's bloodlines in their possession."
no subject
Attacking the clone with the kunai up his sleeve would have been a short-sighted move, and in addition, there's water at his feet- a dangerous weapon in his hands. He still hopes to resolve this peacefully, though the chances of that seem to be dropping with every exchange.
"I have a life here," Family, he doesn't say. "I don't want enemies."
no subject
Kisame shrugs. The kid didn't try to deny it, and he'd be surprised if the kid wasn't, so he goes over traits in his head. Very unlikely to be a Terumi or Milani. With rare exceptions, their red hair carries as strongly as a Hoshigaki's skin. Likewise, the Kaguya tend to have a distinctive look. The Houzuki are more likely, but tend toward pale hair. There are others, but based on what he's observed so far, Kisame thinks he's hit the nail on the head with his guess.
"Let me take a guess. Yuki clan? There aren't many left in Kiri."
no subject
Kisame's 'guess' is alarming. He's gone to such lengths to blend in and his features aren't indicative of any particular line. "You're very perceptive, Hoshigaki-san. Please tell me how you knew."
no subject
"Process of elimination doesn't give much to tell, kid. I know the clans well enough to tell which of them you aren't, and of the remaining, Yuki is the most likely. Knowing a Hoshigaki's skill, you didn't back away from the little puddle I made. That's because the water is as much a weapon for you as me, eh?"
Though outwardly relaxed, Kisame is coiled like a spring inside. This is about the time when a conversation like this would dissolve into a fight. Or not, but that's part of the fun.
no subject
"I'd like to continue living peacefully, so I must ask. What will you do with this information?"
no subject
Kisame doesn't relax, because this could still end in a fight, but he does straighten, and goes serious. "What I should do is report your presence to Mizukage-sama. He would be interested to know of a Yuki, even untrained, still in Kiri. But you seem determined not to be a shinobi, and my family owes old Tsubaki-san for his faithful work for us. Finding you is not my mission, either. So for now, go on your way. Just remember, cause trouble for Kiri, intentionally or not, and I will hunt you down and rip your body to pieces before feeding the remains to my sharks. There will not even be blood left."
To Kisame that isn't even a threat, just a simple statement of what will happen. He doesn't think the kid even needs it, but it never hurts to lay everything out in the open for the participants to be aware of. Besides, helping this kid means the kid owes him later, and Kisame wouldn't hold a Yuki's debt lightly, even not fully trained.
no subject
Haku lifts his hands in a peaceful gesture. He has no intention of causing their country any problems, because the only way he can hope to live peacefully is to keep his head down and carry on like usual.
"You're performing a great favor, Hoshigaki-san, and it's only due to your clan's reputation that I accept. Please allow me to return it soon, or I may need to take matters into my own hands."
no subject
It's not so much the repayment, as the security of knowing he can force an ally from the most unexpected corner if he needs to that Kisame is after, so he's not interested in balancing this favor any time soon. But, if the kid offers something attractive, Kisame is willing to consider letting it be tallied up and finished. So he waits, patient and assessing.
Perhaps the kid knows the clan secrets? The chakra is a sign in that direction, but not an ironclad proof. Kisame doesn't know how much time they would take to learn, or even if the kid had a chance to learn from someone older. Well, he'll find out soon.
no subject
"As you might expect, I have some medical knowledge, Hoshigaki-san. I can offer you and members of your clan the discretion and care that a medic-nin may not afford you as bloodline individuals."
no subject
"That would depend on just how much knowledge you have, kid." Kisame laughs. It's not cruel, exactly, but neither is it pleasant. "And you would need to present your case to the Hoshigaki leaders for that."
But it's true that there are few medic-nin that aren't from other bloodlines who would fairly treat a Hoshigaki. He'll have to test the kid's resolve.
"You mean it, and you'll come back to the compound with me. If you don't, go on your way then."
no subject
"My offer is sincere, Hoshigaki-san." And in truth, it's all he can offer openly. "My only reservations lay in explaining the reason I've come into your services."
no subject
Kisame doesn't miss a beat as he turns around and starts walking. The truth of it is that most of the Hoshigaki have little love for the Mizukage at present. Loyalty, yes, but too many were killed for speaking out against his policies. But there's something else he can use. It's part of the clan's reputation, he knows, but it's also truth. Better to fight it out and turn sour feelings into honest competition than simmer in bitterness and dislike
"If one of them decides to, I'll challenge them and beat them down until they reconsider."
no subject
And when he glances up again, Kisame has turned. His fingers flex in the knowledge that now would be his best chance, but instead he plucks up his basket and follows along without trouble. In addition to securing his secret, the Hoshigaki could make strong allies if he can make himself valuable to them.
no subject
He doesn't give a verbal response, and just keeps walking. But as they get closer to the gates, he slows. His tail didn't follow him out--the last one had gotten dragged into a spar and passed out from chakra exhaustion, and the replacement is too wary--but will be waiting. What a shame it would be if this arrangement fell through before it could even begin.
"That basket of yours close enough to full, kid? I've got a tail who will be... supervising, inside the walls, and it would ruin your plan if they got suspicious, eh? We'll stop by old Tsubaki-san's; another delivery is about due anyway."
no subject
"Yes, Hoshigaki-san. I'm thankful for your consideration." He wants to ask for more details about this 'tail', but it's not quite his place to inquire. "Can I expect a private audience with your clan leaders?"
no subject
Easy enough, and for the moment, true enough, to have Kisame content with the arrangement.
"As private as a meeting inside a clan compound can be, kid. Really private, and you'd have to grow gills for it, eh? Unless you've got a jutsu for that."
no subject
"No need to mistake me, Hoshigaki-san. We just don't need anyone reporting to Mizukage-sama about the circumstances surrounding my visit." Haku glances back with a slight smile.
"I'm Haku, by the way. Though of course I realize it would be difficult to address me in such a manner when my family name can't be spoken aloud."
no subject
Kisame is sure Haku has seen the outside of the compound. It is indeed designed to make sneaking in one hell of a challenge. At least for a non-Hoshigaki.
"Haku-kun, then. There are enough in Kiri without families to their name for it not to be strange."
Kisame pauses a moment to grin up at the current tail, who at least has the grace to back it up more. He almost snorts in contempt. Foolish brat. But he controls the urge and just follows Haku towards the herb shop.
