Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

One such 'interesing' might be a little girl—she was, in fact, thirteen but appeared much younger than the average Leaf gen in these days—set up just inside an open training ground and carefully maintaining a staggering array of daggers, ranging from the size of a pinky to the size of a forearm, and all of them forged from the same dark metal. If he was familiar at all with the work of Kiri's Milani clan, he might recognize it.

If he was familiar with Sephiroth's work, he would definitely recognize it.

Either way, a genin in frills and bows was a jarring juxtaposition to the small, lethal collection. Her hands were quick and steady, however, going through the maintenance for each weapon with near machine-like efficiency. There were two more blades on her person but they were older, obviously originally meant for somebody much larger, and sheathed. She had taken care of those first.

Ami watched the perpetrator scurry off, mumbling apologies, and turned her attention onto the man who had been shoved into her. She wasn't quite sure what to say to him; she wasn't exactly a social butterfly at the best of times. Her gaze caught on the fruit in his hand, and she finally managed to find something to talk about in order to fulfill the chore of social niceties.

"That isn't ripe just yet," she said, almost tacking on a 'shinobi-san' when she saw the array of old nicks and callouses on his fingers. She held it in when she realized that he wasn't wearing a forehead protector, and assumed that he was undercover for a mission. Belatedly, she finished off with an uncertain, "...Onii-san."
vagabondvessel: (You're really not going to stop...)

Well that's not a good sign for me...

[personal profile] vagabondvessel 2014-11-22 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Onii--?

He silently added that to the list of titles he didn't like the sound of when addressed to him. Brothers had far more responsibility than he wished to assume in the remainder of his lifetime.

His lips pressed into a line, and he set the fruit back down on the table after a moment, resisting the urge to offer an explanation for holding an unripened fruit as if he were completely unfamiliar with it. "Perhaps I'll find a vegetable instead." That fruit was the most promising of everything on that table, after all.

Well, it was that or 'mister', and that made her sound like a little kid, so it was not up for negotiations. Aside from the odd stranger she had to be polite to, the only person to consistently earn that name was her own cousin.

Ami made a faintly incredulous noise, raising her eyebrows in a decidedly skeptical manner that seemed to have more judgment packed into it than a small girl in a frilly dress should be able to muster up in the first place. "I... would recommend something preserved." That was a tactful way to say that their produce was terrible. Ami wasn't sure if it was because of a bad harvest or if the general store was just not the place they sent the best crops, but the prices and quality just did not match.

She hasn't changed yet, still wearing the civilian clothing she'd adopted for the mission. It was girlier than her normal ensemble of tight pants and cropped top, but she made the puffy dress work all the same. And while normally she'd be a shy mess right about now it was just another part of the job at hand to help distract her from her feeling otherwise entirely embarrassed.

The shadows whisper of someone approaching. Like the boy another shinobi, dangerous and they whine again but she ignores them. Reminds the shadows of who controls who as the sounds of the shinobi moving finally reach her ears. She slows but keeps walking feigning a looseness she only partially feels. Not that she really loosens up even after she hears the voice. Her lips curving into an approximation of a grin.

"Something like that. On your way back as well Kisame-san?" It's a quiet question one she doesn't really anticipate getting more than the most basic of answers to. If any at all. Chances of crossing paths for any other reason was slight. But she's glad to come across one of her own even this far out still, it reminds her to put the barriers back up after parting ways with the kid. She hates how she has be so on guard even with the very people that she's supposed to consider an ally.

Pity too, there are days she'd like nothing more than to speak her mind with one of her betters instead of carefully chosen phrases and tiny tidbits of truth. Or maybe without having to fake her level of self-assurance. She had plenty of confidence in her abilities as a fighter but wearing that confidence like armor got tiresome after a while. "Did you enjoy your assignment?"
vagabondvessel: (Dear kami you're speaking again)

That was the primary reason he preferred to simply go by his name when it was safe to do so. Most other things inferred too much respect or responsibility to aptly apply to him. It was yet another reason why he simply preferred not to interact with people more than necessary.

Now that he had the opportunity to look at her closely (rather than stumble over her) he could confirm she was extraordinarily small for a shinobi, even a genin. One from the Hidden Leaf, was she? Perhaps they'd started graduating younger classes again...?

It didn't really matter to him, though. None of that was his business, and he had no interest in changing that.

"Eehhh...that's...another stand, isn't it?" He had no idea which.

Ami gave him a flat stare, then took two pointed steps to the side in order to reveal the small shelf she had originally been studying.

She wasn't exactly the sweetest child, despite what her image might imply to the contrary, and while she could be sweet, strangers rarely got that special privilege. Sure, she didn't have any idea how good or terrible the snacks in this village were, but a part of her was just happy to be just a little more capable than some older, foreign ninja. She was a serial perfectionist, most of the time.

"Please go ahead." Perhaps she could use him as a guinea pig, of sorts.

Funny how he still remembered trying ti sidling up into Fugaku's lap as a two-year-old when Kagami had left him there while on a mission-- and promptly being told to sit in his designated place instead. And the kitten gets to sit in it? ...Not that Shisui still wanted a seat but-- it was just rather hilarious~

Instead of bring up old topics, he settles for a nod.

As for that perfectly disapproving look-- Kagami had once told him that Fugaku was born that way. Apparently he'd had some sort of defective facial muscles that rendered him a permanent scowl. He'd believed it for a long time, too, and over the years, Shisui had come to accept it as sort-of-fact, and somehow the scowl didn't bother him as much as it had done when he'd been a wee thing. It probably never really had the effect it was supposed to be having on the young man anymore. Sorry, Fugaku.... Blame Kagami?

At Fugaku's answer, however, Shisui glances down at the kitten. "It might be a few months till they'd start doing that. An older cat might have been a better option. Where's their mother?" He held his hand out as if it held food, clicking his tongue softly in an attempt to get the kitten to maybe walk up to him. "And have you tried leaving slug traps?"

He considered himself lucky they'd been mostly silent on the topic, never really sitting down and pushing him for it. If the pressure came all at once, Itachi would be that good son he was expected to be.

He would bend, and he would accept the grooming and all protests would die on his end. No matter how much he wants something else, he understands he won't get it-- that fate doesn't work out his way.

Itachi was good at a lot of things that he didn't like to do, and that he didn't want to do.

He's not totally unaware of the goings on in his Father's mind, it was on both either way's, it was only a matter of time and location.

"The rain is letting up." It's not pounding as hard, and some of the sun is trying to break through the clouds. He'll keep that kitten in his lap for now.

If she was proud to be better than him at something, she was setting her standards exceedingly low. Missing nin were the opposite of good role models or mile-markers, and...that was without considering the other thing he was.

As made obvious by the fact that he missed the shelf she'd just been standing in front of. Ah.

He hesitated a moment. Was there...a reason that she let him choose first? "I don't think stumbling over someone is an excuse to cut in line."
abileunaspada: (Okay MAYBE I'm having fun.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-22 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think it's a nice name. And no, just to start off with. This place has really good soups and seafoods though, and decent beef and pork vegetable dishes. I haven't tried their tempura or duck yet," Adela shook her head and made herself comfortable in her seat, adjusting her sleeve and her clothes to try and make herself more presentable.

... This kinda felt like some kind of weird date. But still, learning about him...

"I'm headed out west, to my village. I've been on the road for a while, and my family's there waiting for me to get back with trade deals and stories. How about you?"
vagabondvessel: (This is kind of awkward)

[personal profile] vagabondvessel 2014-11-22 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If it felt like a date, it went completely over his head. That was probably due to the fact that he expected she or some other member of staff to attack at any moment. Perhaps there were some who found that sort of danger romantic and exciting, but he much preferred something quiet and comparatively boring.

"Duck seems excessive for a casual story, don't you think?" Everything she did only served to heighten his suspicion of her. No one was ever this generous and friendly without a reason, and approaching a stranger in the hope of an exciting story wasn't enough of a reason for that.

He huffed after a moment of thought. "I don't have a destination. Like I said, I'm...sight-seeing." Civilians and those sorts did that sort of thing, didn't they?
abileunaspada: (Oh you meant THAT. Phew.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-22 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Her grin broadened and she shook her head, leaning forward to rest her chin on folded fingers as she looked him over once more.

"Please, it's been too long since I've gotten to treat someone to dinner. It's been lonely for me, and hearing someone's stories helps me feel closer to them -- at least that's what I think. I'm serious, order anything you want."
vagabondvessel: (I planned to run away...)

[personal profile] vagabondvessel 2014-11-22 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't actually shift where he was sitting, but the way she leaned forward as if studying his appearance still made him uncomfortable. Suspicious, that's what she was.

"You really have chosen the wrong person if you're looking for interesting company..." If she wasn't plotting something, he had the worrying feeling that girls her age might simply be drawn to him for some reason. That was almost as tedious as being constantly hunted.

"If you're so intent, I'd rather have the pork anyway." ...Was she expecting him to launch into a story...? She would be disappointed, if so.
ghostpepper: (there's something you should know)

oh? how so?

[personal profile] ghostpepper 2014-11-22 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
She'd tensed up a little at the touch, but it was gone as soon as she was turned around and out of his grasp. Acting on reflex, she reached up to brush off her shoulders, internally relieved to find nothing. Her eyes, however, studied the young man in front of her. She felt like she'd seen his face somewhere before, but couldn't pin down where. Hm...

"You sure? It felt like I bumped into you pretty hard."
abileunaspada: (Okay fine I'm smiling.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-22 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think I have to disagree again, Utakata-san. But the only way to prove me long is to let me learn more about you," It was almost a purr then, and she winked briefly before finally paying mind to the server approaching their table. She went for chicken herself with some jasmine tea, letting Utakata get what he wanted out before she turned her attention to him again.

"Maybe you could start with something interesting happening to you recently? If you can, anyway -- I've run into a ton of secretive types and as much as I want to hear it I understand if something is too personal to share."
noboatbigenough: (Big Bad... Shark.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-23 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
To Kisame, the young age didn't even make him blink. Perhaps, if he had known Konoha better, it might have stood out, but he was more than used to the very young decked out and training. And well used to deceiving appearances--the Mizukage wasn't nearly as young as he looked, after all.

What was interesting, was the blades. He recognized Milani work very well--his own substitute was one of theirs, because Kisame wouldn't handle anything less than excellent if he couldn't have his own Samehada--and the sight was enough to drag him closer.

"Nice collection, kid. You take care of them very well." Kisame's respect of blades came through more than enough in his voice and expression. He itched to touch, but knew better than to encroach on another ninja's arsenal.
noboatbigenough: (Might be a cunning linguist.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-23 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
The non-exploding bubbles only made Kisame more on edge. He wasn't as well-versed with this technique as he'd like, and most experienced with the exploding ones, so what those had been intended for... He didn't know, but he didn't exactly like it. The water clones were dismissed--and if civilians below got soaked when they collapsed, he couldn't care less--and Kisame continued his pursuit.

He didn't have much hope of cutting off his prey, so he kept to the heights as he passed the buildings by and into the forest. His path was no longer straight now. It would meander to the unobservant, but was a decent and quick search pattern. The action was proven the best one when he spotted the spreading bubbles. A water clone and a boom later, and at least he knew which kind of bubbles these were.

Now, where was his prey? The bubbles were moving on a slowly expanding pattern so he was probably--there.

Kisame raised his voice as he sent out another clone to trigger the explosive bubbles. He could do this all day, literally. "You shouldn't have run from a shinobi, Utakata-san. You know it attracts our attention."

He wasn't close enough to be completely certain, but the man he could see in the distance fit the descriptions, and had the same jutsu. Kisame hoped so; he was looking forward to a challenging fight. And if he won, the bounty wouldn't be a bad thing to have.
noboatbigenough: (Big Bad... Shark.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-23 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the daimyo accepted it, even if Kisame thought he saw some curiosity there. There was no reason to stop now that he had gotten his reaction, and really, Kisame wouldn't put it past someone to have arranged an accident to get rid of the threat he posed. Subtly, of course, because on paper Kisame was very much in favor. It was almost comfortable, because Kisame had spent many missions protecting, even if it ended up with comrade's blood on his hands later. He hadn't done that for a long time though; and hoped never to again. No, better to only pick comrades who knew what was expected, rather than sheep.

The question was amusing in its own way. As if it wasn't obvious! "I am; you know your clans. Curious, are you, Xing-shu-sama?"

There was plenty he wouldn't, or couldn't reveal, but Kisame wasn't averse to asking a few basic questions that were essentially common knowledge anyway.
noboatbigenough: (Gai's suit hides NOTHING.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-23 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
"First you say you have choices and then you call Konoha a cage. Make up your mind, Milani-kun. If you don't want to stay so close to home, get stronger and conquer your fear."

Kisame said that like it was the most obvious thing in the world, and to him, it was. The Hoshigaki were a rough clan to grow up in, expecting fortitude and tenacity over just about anything else. Sink or swim in a very literal way. In his own way, he say it as a kind of aid, however little it was. Maybe it was her relation to Sephiroth, maybe her promise of growing into a powerful opponent, but he wasn't going to kill her, so why not?

Kisame looked her over, aware on some level that she would inspire sympathy in others. He only felt hollow and vaguely uncomfortable with the depressed look she wore. It was a little too familiar in some ways.
abileunaspada: (Damn it! I wasn't strong enough...)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-23 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I want to think it's true, that I am choosing my own path. Lately it just doesn't feel like it anymore, and meeting you here just cements it. It might just all be a giant lie," She frowned, resting her chin in her hand as she looked towards some of the more prominent structures in the garden.

"... I'll keep your advice in mind -- all of it. It's the least I can do, and nothing's gonna change if I just let shit keep happening to me without doing anything about it."
noboatbigenough: (You're cute. ...Still gonna kill you.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-23 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
Kisame, as expected, ignores the first question because the answer is too obvious. He knows Rui about as well as he knows anyone, except perhaps Sephiroth, but even then, until lately, that relationship was more one of sparring partners, using each other as whetstones to sharpen themselves. So abstractly, he can tell she's on guard, but so is he, so it doesn't stir anything beyond simple acknowledgement.

"You really need to ask Kiri's Monster that question, Rui-san?" He'd hated it, but knows better than to say it. Still, lying always makes him bitter, so he chooses the tactic that deflects rather than outright lies. Better, but still not enough.

He falls into step beside her, with enough distance not to be caught off guard if an attack came from that quarter, but close enough to be moderately friendly. And maybe half out of spite, he's happy to turn the question back on her. "And what about your mission, Rui-san? Was it fun?

It was a blessed day off and Mika had decided to grab some kitchen supplies and cat food. She should have gone straight back home after but she lingered on the streets. Maybe it was the cute little cat toys she'd seen earlier at the craft shop, it was just past this road--

Her wandering mind picked up on something odd, eyes glanced to the left and a very tall blue figure grabbed her attention. Where had she seen someone like that before? Taking off after the man, she racked her brain for details. Mika remembered a clan noted for their oddly fish like appearance. Kiri nin...

Hashigapi? Hoshizaki? Kappi..something?

It wouldn't do for her to not recall something this important! Mika prided herself on researching clan mutations, alongside her other anthropological projects. [Though frankly she knew little for any given clan considering how well guarded such information was.] This had to be corrected, swiftly.

Despite the invisible bubble that seemed to exist around the man Mika walked right up to him, easily keeping pace. "Excuse me, you're from Kirigakure? Are you by chance from the um, Hoshi...gako clan?" It really was on the tip of her tongue yet it didn't sound right to her. She hoped he wouldn't be offended by such forgetfulness!

Fugaku wondered how to politely warn Adela is she showed up with gifts, then the neighbors would begin to think and hope she was courting (or being courted by) one of his sons and might find herself the victim of a little too much friendly scrutiny. Genetics generally was a casual hobby of most Uchiha, and he could see his family breaking down Adela into a pros and cons list and presenting it to Fugaku at the next meeting.

It seemed cruel to subject people not in the family to his family when they were only trying to be nice.

Also telling her she needed to sneak in the back and avoid letting anyone see her, or come disguised as a boy would probably send her running the other way, and he didn't want to be stuck on kitten duty every time Mikoto went out.

Fugaku looked at the girl seriously. Dear gods, he's just invited a red-head to his house basically whenever she wanted to show up. You would think after all these years of knowing Kushina, he would know better than to do that. Manners aside, Fugaku had yet to meet a red-head who didn't have a hot streak in them.

"I can't stop you from bringing anything," Fugaku admitted. He wasn't sure her logic balanced out (she would already be doing him a favor, after all), but it wasn't as if tea wouldn't be appreciated and drunk in his house.

Fuagku shouldn't be pleased to here someone was causing property damage, but at least no one would be complaining to him about "explosive sneezes" or fireballs gone rogue this year. Well, not so much.

Fugaku would take this as a sign the Uchiha students had good control this year, not that they were being out performed.

Fugaku grunted. "Has she set any of her classmates on fire yet?" Burns were common in the Uchiha compound, and everyone above the age of seven or so knew how to treat one, but setting classmates on fire was a complete breach of etiquette. Also, future teammates did not appreciate the difference between singed and burned.
