Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

"They're weaned." Though the smaller one didn't look old enough to be weaned--but, they were litter mates. Fugaku was now certain the runt would become a lap warmer and nothing more useful than that.

"Mikoto requested kittens." Which was only a half truth. Fugaku had decided they should get a cat instead of investing in more traps since they had no small children to pull tails and honestly the cats would be less work in the end. Mikoto thought the cats would be more comfortable in a ninja home with many visitors if they grew up there, and Fugaku couldn't argue with that.

"Mikoto's getting the garden ready for winter, so the plants won't be in danger too much longer. They'll have all winter to grow." It wouldn't be very long before they were at least attempting to hunt, anyway. The tiny kitten watched Shisui with a sleepy peacefulness in her expression, and stood and stretched to walk amiably to his hand, sniffing his fingers. Fugaku crossed his arms.

"We have." The slugs were less a nuisance than the mice in the house--to him anyway.

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-23 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Fugaku nodded in approval. While hunting might not sound like something important, he understood it to be important for building a bond with the summons, and practice working together. Sometimes it was easy to forget Sasuke wasn't the attention seeking eight year-old anymore, but had become mature and focused over the years.

"Did you catch anything?" Or maybe the little hawk had been trying to supplement a bad hunting day with a kitten?

Fugaku was glad he could have such deep and meaningful conversations with his son. Fugaku nodded and wondered if it had even rained at the house, or Mikoto was looking at a clear sky wondering what was keeping Fugaku. She'd probably assume he'd been accosted by a family member.

"Will you be in Konoha long this time?" Not that Fugaku would be likely to see his eldest son even if he was.

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-23 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Fugaku watched the little calico. His own were nondescript tabbies with varying degrees of white markings on their chests and paws. The forehead protector the girl was wearing surprised Fugaku a little. The girl must be older than her size suggested--or she was highly skilled.

Fugaku looked back at the rain as the girl spoke. "It is my wife's garden, but it will make planting the bulbs easier." Fugaku couldn't grow a plant to save his life. "I apologize for not introducing myself. I am Uchiha Fugaku."

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-23 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Fugaku nodded. "Mika-san." He didn't really have anything else to say, unless to say he suspected she had something to say. If not, she could go on her way again. She seemed very intent on the kittens. Perhaps she just had an unfortunately strong attraction to cats.

"Have you been well?" The words came out a little stiff and stilted. Fugaku generally wasn't one to ask after people's health, unless he was trying to be very polite to a dignitary or someone equally politically important.

Kisame really hadn't been expecting that. It hit home in ways that almost physically hurt, bringing out bloody memories and a flood of emotion. Where do I go? Where can I go?

The breath he drew in hissed through clenched teeth, and Kisame had to consciously force tight muscles and clenched fists to relax. He'd fallen into a ready stance in the split second she'd said 'giant lie' and it was actually hard to force himself back into something that resembled relaxation. He knew he wasn't being entirely successful, and it made him feel more vulnerable than he had in a long time.

He couldn't look at her. "I'll leave you to it. I have a mission to complete."

In a split second he was on the garden wall, and there he paused, back to the garden. Part of him fought to look back, to say something to address what she'd said, and it made him hesitate. Oh, what a fool he was. A hesitation like that could easily get him killed in another situation. He needed to leave, now.

Kisame was more amused than surprised at the kunoichi coming up to him so closely, and even excited. This one didn't have nearly enough self-preservation, but she'd lived this long, so maybe she had skills that compensated.

He laughed, and subtly lengthened his strides a little, not quite hurrying, but enough to make shorter people have to scramble to keep up. Would she make the effort was the question.

"One, you shouldn't ask obvious questions, eh?" He tapped his hitai-ate in demonstration, very obviously wearing Kiri's sign. "And two, I'll give you a hint. Most of the old clans in Kirigakure have names relating to fruit."

Sure he could have simply corrected her, but where was the fun in that?

He can't really fault her for being on guarded. Like most of the younger shinobi she grew up with stories of Kiri's Monster. But she instead of quaking at his presence she welcomed it. The monster had no reason to consider her a threat. Not when she was useful to the village and for all intents and purposes loyal too.

"No," she murmurs with a shake of the head. No she didn't. After all she hated her own assignment, and hated the inevitable return trip. Not that she'd be tasked with more than watching this time, but there were many uses to shadow after all no matter how exhausting some of them could be.

"It was what you'd expect." It's as much a deflection as his own response. No point in sharing that it was utterly boring despite the trove of intel she'd gathered. She says very little else on the subject. The shinobi of their village would be availed of her report if and when it became necessary they know it. Actually she falls entirely quiet save for her the sounds of their feet meeting the dirt road.

It isn't often she comes across Kisame for more than the briefest of passings, and while there are others she can judge easily their openness to any further conversation she leaves it to him to lead. The demanding and controlling persona she dons for village life still feeling more than a little unwarranted when the sun can been seen clearly without reflecting off the mists.

If non-exploding, sensory bubbles bothered Kisame, just wait until Utakata moved on to his more versatile bubble arsenal. Not that Utakata had any interest in doing that, however. He had no interest in fights challenging or otherwise, he had interest in wasting his day away drifting in a bubble or resting carefree in a forest. It was only regrettable to do that he'd need to fight...whether to overcome the monster of kiri or as a fighting retreat depended on how well the monster lived up to his reputation.

He walked backwards away from the edge of the village, eyes firmly on the approaching nin, but there remained a cushion of bubbles behind him -- a mix of explosive and sensory -- to prevent an easy attack from that direction. It didn't surprise him that Kisame would know his name. Anyone with a reputation like that would know of someone like him, even if he hadn't been on the mission to start with. That was why he'd chosen to run. Passing by him in the street and attempting to blend in with the crowd would only have ended with a sword in his back.

This might, too, but he preferred to plan on it not.

"Well..." His voice drifted up in the direction the other had come from, sounding lazy and almost unconcerned. "You know...I prefer to do whatever I feel like at the time, rather than worry about rules. Perhaps you should try."
vagabondvessel: (You're really not going to stop...)

[personal profile] vagabondvessel 2014-11-23 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...What was that? Did she purr at him? And...wink? Oh.

He grimaced in discomfort. Was that the reason this girl insisted on treating him to things and asking him questions? Because that was...unfortunate. He resisted the urge to glance toward the exit, however, because even if the girl was deeply misled about him, she was still providing food, and he was no longer in a situation where he could so easily dismiss an opportunity.

She wanted him to come up with something interesting? "An owl fell on my shoulder as I walked through the forest."
vagabondvessel: (This is kind of awkward)

There were multiple quips to be said but I was so tired I've forgotten them now

[personal profile] vagabondvessel 2014-11-23 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd perhaps be a little offended at her gesture if he hadn't seen much worse reactions from people when the touch wasn't even unexpected. Truthfully, he was less comfortable with the way she stared at his face than her attempt to brush off his touch. What she thought of him didn't matter to him nearly as much as whether she recognized him or would remember him later.

"I guess that means I have an excellent sense of balance." He frowned slightly, and nodded to her, turning the conversation in her direction in an attempt to divert her attention similarly. "Unless you were hurt?"

"... Good luck."

Was it something she said? Who knew, why he suddenly felt like he had to leave. She was confused, why he suddenly seemed tense and jumped away, she wasn't sure. It had her on edge, and she didn't like it.

Just what was it...

"... Thanks again, Hoshigaki-san. I hope the next time we meet is under better circumstances."

She could offer him that much... And that was when she went to the opposite wall, towards the inn she was staying at. They had their own respective missions to complete, but for the moment Adela was just finished with the day. Anything to just allow herself a moment to rest and truly relax, maybe with some good food and drink.
abileunaspada: (Okay fine I'm smiling.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-23 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
If only he knew that she did in fact have a giant crush on his second son

"Just small stuff then. Who knows, maybe I can coax you to enjoy the tea with me," Her smile was softer then and she looked back to the kitten. They'd probably reach where he had to go soon, which meant she'd have to give the kitten back. Maybe now it would sit in the basket with its sibling, but who knew for sure. It seemed to still be interested in playtime at least.
abileunaspada: (Oh you meant THAT. Phew.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-23 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Seriously? That's got to be some kind of omen, though who knows what," Her laughter was genuine, and she shook her head. She was making him uncomfortable, so probably coming on too strong -- or this guy wasn't interested in that sort of thing at all. Either way, she wasn't going to push him that far or the entire attempt would be fruitless.

"I can't say anything like that's happened to me, at least not with animals. Most of my trips on the road are fairly quiet, almost eerily so. I don't even run into bandits most times."
noboatbigenough: (Shit just got serious.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-23 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That someone could recognize their life as a lie and still say something like that. Kisame couldn't let that pass. It was just a nicety. A false hope. It would hurt more when it came back to blow up in hi--her face. He didn't turn to look, standing as rigid as a statue. His voice held a little heat, the word 'lie' spit out like it was poison.

"The world is already a lie; don't add to it, Milani-kun. The only thing you can do against it is stop lying to yourself."

Then he was gone, even as she started to move in the opposite direction.
vagabondvessel: (None of this sounds good)

[personal profile] vagabondvessel 2014-11-23 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Does it?" Given he'd made it up, he had no idea what that sort of thing would mean. Other than trouble, anyway, and he didn't need omens to tell him of that. Except when he was living on the mountain, his life was almost entirely composed of trouble. As was to be expected of the life of a missing nin.

"Maybe you don't look like you have anything to steal." That seemed like the only reason why someone wouldn't be accosted by bandits while traveling alone. When he wore things that indicated he might be hiding valuables (unlike the robes he wore now that appeared to have no such room) he usually needed to dispatch greedy and foolish bandits.

Kisame took his time, watching the man back up and keeping to the same pace. He could take care of most of the bubbles at once if he brought out one of his bigger techniques, but that would attract far more attention than he should be attracting right now. It was a little frustrating.

The conversational tone, he guessed was an attempt to get him off guard through anger, and Kisame hadn't been around as long as he had to fall for it. On the other hand, he couldn't exactly let the comment pass, even as he strained all his senses, looking for traps or Genjutsu.

"Kirigakure still has my loyalty, Utakata-san. I cannot be as free as you."

With that, he drew his sword. It was a beautiful blade, and perfectly forged. The best of the best work, and killing sharp, even from a distance. He looked down at it, and then grinned over the area. And in a spinning move, threw it, so that the blade twirled in horizontal arcs right toward Utakata.

What swordsman in his right mind would throw a sword? Well, one who needed his hands free to use the summoning scroll he carried to bring his true blade to himself. In a puff of smoke, the great blade Samehada was in his hands, and casually resting on one shoulder.

"I won't disrespect you by coming at you with anything less than my all. Now shall we?"

He didn't wait for a response and started charging across the space between them at full speed. He was counting on the clones he'd used and the sword throw itself to have taken care of most of the explosive bubbles.

It would be quite unfortunate if someone arranged an accident to happen while within the Land of Noodles. Hotohori frowned on such practices, his own family all having been eliminated by such 'accidents' by his scheming mother. Noodle prices would steeply increase if such underhanded behavior were caught within his borders. Particularly as such 'accidents' had a habit of endangering nearby civilians, and he took threats to his people poorly.

He gave a mild smile, allowing for the moment the use of his proper name due to the situation. "Well, the Hoshigaki clan is a very distinctive clan. I think it's a greater reflection upon your clan than my knowledge. It is an interest of mine to study history when I can, however." Despite what some might believe, he was perfectly capable of modesty when it came to things not to do with his looks.

...But why would he be modest about his beauty? He was incredibly beautiful.

It had been a very long time since anyone had enjoyed tea with Fugaku. Anyone but Mikoto. Most other people only came to spend time with him when he made them, or when they wanted something from him. The thought of having someone his children's age teasingly him about enjoying tea with her...

Well, it was half baffling, but mostly made Fugaku realize he had become a very solitary creature, despite the people he saw and all the talking and listening he seemed to do.

Maybe it would do him some good to connect with one of the younger ninja in the village. Or pretend to. "Perhaps." Fugaku wasn't about to agree to being "coaxed" into anything.
vagabondvessel: (Today sucks)

What a bother.

"I wonder if you'll say the same when it turns on you?" His master had personally turned on him, but then again his master was the embodiment of the village to him, as the village had intended, and then the village branded him a traitor and a murderer for something the beast inside him had done. If it turned on one of its treasures, it would inevitably turn on its tools. He had no interest in serving anything that saw its people as tools.

The spinning blade cut an explosive path so obvious that it was easy to sway aside and dodge it without even moving his feet. Behind him, several bubbles coalesced around it and engulfed it in potent acid, immediately beginning to eat away at the blade and handle. Just in case that was an attempt to lay some sort of trap behind him.

He grit his teeth in displeasure at the sight of one of the legendary swords (of course that would be present, though, he couldn't expect the Monster of Kiri to be far from it) and brought the wand to his mouth, summoning a new wave of bubbles in front of his (now rapidly) retreating form, these filled with acid and toxic gas.

"There's no need to put yourself out for me."

...No, he didn't really think he'd be able to talk the man out of attacking him, unfortunately.

He turned and sprinted down the path, rather than stand his ground against the sword. Against Kisame...there wasn't any way he would be able to avoid using at least a little of that power. Which was...frustrating. He hadn't needed to do that in years.
noboatbigenough: (Big Bad... Shark.)

Kisame is, though he's often wearing the mask of being jovial and talkative, surprisingly content to travel in relative quiet. He nods at her answers to his question and for a time just walks quietly. His thoughts have been weighing heavily on him more than usual lately, with recent missions tearing open old memories, and presenting him with new options he hadn't quite considered before.

Treason; he's so close to it. Probably over the line already, and it disgusts on one hand, but feels more right than any atrocity he's committed on the other. He's never had a place to go. Maybe this is the answer, to make a place instead. But he can't share his traitorous thoughts with anyone he doesn't know shares them, so he's quiet and subdued. Probably a change from their other encounters, honestly.

But he knows what's expected of him, and the watch he's already under, so eventually he pulls a smile back on. Especially at a time like this, he can't afford to make others more suspicious.

"You'll be going right back out, eh? I wonder what lies in store for us at the mission desk."

She'd hope that he didn't try something in the middle of the street! Mika's curiosity would likely end up getting her killed, she already had a smattering of scars from past recklessness. She's like a cockroach, surprisingly hardy and too stubborn to die.

There wasn't an issue with matching his pace. Mika was ridiculously tall for a woman and had long legs. Standing at 181 cm, she was on the short end in the family. He'd have to do more than walk briskly to shake her off.

"Mm, you're right! You definitely are from Kiri..." Silly questions are a specialty of hers. "Oh, fruit.." The only thing close to what she was thinking was--

"Hoshigaki then?" How could she forget?! "Sorry, ne, sometimes I get names mixed up. I'll remember that Hoshigaki-san.~"

Stilted conversation was gonna be the order for today. At least the fuzzy little critters would dispel some of the awkwardness. She smiled at the cat peeking over the table. So cute!

"Mm, I'm very well today. Thank you for asking. I hope you're in good health too." Even with a little tension in her voice Mika tried to not come off as uncomfortable. Male authority figures had always made her feel wary. At least he was being polite and she would return the gesture. "Ne, are you getting those kittens for fun or mousing?" Fugaku didn't seem like the type to keep cats for the pleasure of their company.
noboatbigenough: (Might be a cunning linguist.)

"Now you are correct. But why the interest?" Kisame wasn't sure what to make of this one, but he wouldn't push her away. Maybe he could use her enthusiasm to learn something interesting. After all, it would only be fair for answering those questions.

He tipped his head just enough to give her a closer look while not sacrificing a view of the street in front of them. She was tall and athletic; probably decent in a fight. Not that her looks gave him any better idea why she'd come up so boldly. The lack of fear could be a sign of strength, but it just as easily could mean foolishness.

After a moment he hummed thoughtfully. "I will hold you to that promise to remember. And you are?"
