Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Fugaku walked in silent for a few moments, watching Adela. His life had, for many years now, revolved around dealing with interpersonal relationships and people in his clan, so it was fairly obvious the girl was uncomfortable. Since she was going out of her way to keep him from getting soaked, he shouldn't let her stew.

"Are you a Chuunin, Adela-san? And please call me Fugaku-san." After all, if one said "Uchiha-san" there was no telling how many answers there would be. When you lived in a family dense area, shouting last names drew too much attention. Fugaku could make bland table talk with just about anyone--as long as they were over ten. Under that, there was such a tenuous grasp of logic Fugaku found himself just nodding and saying "isn't that interesting."

She blinked hard at being spoken to, snapping out of her internal anxiety in response to the question. Ah, Fugaku-san -- somehow she felt a little privileged to be asked to use his first name like that, from someone she hadn't worked with on a mission anyway. Absently she nudged the cat up on her chest, re-adjusting her hold to get more comfortable as she answered him, "Since the start of the year. It's been a lot more exciting since my genin years, if not... Dangerous."

Considering that she almost died of snake poison and then a few months later had her eye nearly gouged and effectively blinded... But he didn't need to know that, even if her left eye openly showed the dulled colouration of an eye no longer able to see.

"I wouldn't change what's happened for the world though, not with what I've learned and how much stronger I've gotten. Not to mention the people I've met and worked with... I wouldn't have it any other way," The words caused a soft smile to tug at her lips as she thought about it more, because even with the bad a lot of good came out of it, "I don't think I'd enjoy it so much if I wasn't in Konoha. It just feels right to be here."

Fugaku thought it was a little strange for her to say that about Konoha. It wasn't as if most ninja had a choice of which village they served or served in more than one village in their lifetime. It could be the girl was just well traveled, but that wasn't likely for a young Chuunin, Fugaku didn't think.

Fugaku was unfortunately familiar with the more recent batch of teenaged Chuunin. There weren't...bad, simply...different. A new breed of ninja that hadn't gone through a major war like Fugaku's generation or even Itachi's. They seemed more carefree and ill suited for the mortally serious life of a ninja.

"The newest batch of Chuunin is a very...colorful bunch." Naruto was in it. And hadn't one of Sasuke's classmates had pink hair? "Have you lived somewhere other than Konoha?"
abileunaspada: (Lemme think it over for a minute.)

Adela had to pause and think about that one, about how she should answer. True, they were of the same village, but it wasn't even about trust as a villagemate -- it was about how comfortable she was revealing her origins. For the time she decided to keep it minimal, nothing that the information itself would at least be harmless enough.

If he knew about the incident around her a year and a half ago he'd know more to the story, but for now she decided that the details weren't needed, "Yes. I immigrated here with my uncle when I was eight."

Eight was certainly young enough to have started her training in another country, which made things more...complicated. Fugaku thought he might know who she was after all.

"I'm glad you've come to think of Konoha as your home." Loyalty was valued above all else in hidden villages, after all. Being transplanted from another village wouldn't make one many friends. Fugaku glanced at the bulbs and remaining kitten in the basket. It was now awake and simply watching everything sleepily.

Wonderful. He'd bought lazy mousers.
abileunaspada: (Okay fine I'm smiling.)

"If you don't mind my asking, Fugaku-san... Why cats?"

It felt like a good change of topic, and with what Fugaku had said -- well, really it didn't need to be explained further. Konoha was her home, and she didn't need to emphasize it as far as she was aware. She couldn't help grinning as the cat in her arm started to bat its paws at her hand, and she played with it absently while waiting for the answer. Jeez, these things were so cute... If she wasn't worried about pets around the forge, she might've considered asking Uncle for one.

Oh well. Maybe she'd find excuses to come play with the cats on her off days, as well as talk to Fugaku-san and maybe see if she could find Mikoto-sensei* there, among others.

"Because they are more effective than mouse traps." And leaving traps everywhere made Fugaku feel a little paranoid. "And something is eating things in Mikoto's garden." Fugaku blamed the old house and the lack of traffic it saw. When children were running here and there, vermin stayed better hidden or found quieter houses. Fugaku glanced at the happen kitten in Adela's hands.

"They will be trouble until they're older." It would be almost like having children again, only, the kittens didn't have thumbs. "They should be ready to clean things out when winter really sets in and the rodents get more adventurous looking for food." Then, by the time spring time came and the rodents were less forward, the kittens would have enough practice in hunting that they shouldn't have much trouble keeping the rodent population down.

abileunaspada: (Okay MAYBE I'm having fun.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-21 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Make sure you play with them often. It should help settle their energy and it helps them learn how to hunt, right? They need to learn it from somewhere."

She hadn't meant to come off as lecturing and more like giving him a tip as she played with the kitty some more, her smile only growing more as she let it gnaw playfully on her finger. Jeez, why were these things so cute?

"Yeah, they kind of are like little kids, but considering that they're young cats it's not too far of a stretch."

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-21 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)

Fugaku breathed out through his nose. "I'm sure there are going to be plenty of children who want to play with them." The house would be swarmed, and probably Fugaku and the kittens would take refuge in his study. Fugaku looked at the kitten trying to gnaw on the bulbs in the basket with it.

"Exactly like small children." Fugaku jostled the basket a little.

abileunaspada: (Look it's nothing okay?)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-21 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then as their dad, it's your job to make sure they grow up big and strong," Her smile was a bit more solemn then, as she thought about it. Taking care of a small pet would be a little like parenting, wouldn't it... She had to wonder how she was doing, without her parents. Sure, uncle was great, but he was just... Uncle. He never tried to be her dad outright, and although she respected him for it...

Adela probably didn't realize just how saddened her expression had become, but she was brought back when the cat meowed loudly and crawled up her shoulder to nuzzle against her, prompting a true smile and laugh from her again, "Just make sure they get enough attention and get the chance to make mistakes and learn from them I guess. Though, this is probably annoying to hear if you've had cats before."
disgruntledmountain: (Kind of smile)

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-21 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
He was getting a lecture on kitten care from someone young enough to be his child. Fugaku wondered at the interesting turns his life was taking.

Fugaku watched the girl's expression drop. He's general tactic for sudden down swings of moods was to ignore them for the most part. Fugaku cleared his throat. It was an interesting sentiment from someone as young as her, to let children learn from their own mistakes. After all, a toddler would only walk off the porch once.

....and Fugaku hadn't let Sasuke's head hit the ground.

"Both my children survived, so perhaps I can manage kittens after them," Fugaku said gruffly. Fugaku looked at the kitten in his basket.

"If you want to stop by and see them, you may." Fugaku had a very low energetic cute threshold, and Mikoto would probably enjoy getting more visitors that weren't family complaining about her lack of grand kids.
abileunaspada: (Okay fine I'm smiling.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-21 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Kittens can't sass you either," It brought a chuckle and she glanced up to him, unable to stop the grin from pulling at her lips, "I'd like that. Thanks, Fugaku-san, it's really nice of you. Maybe when I come by I should bring some black tea or something too, as a gift."

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-22 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Fugaku didn't think he remembered a single moment when either of his children has sassed him. The repercussions probably would have been dire.

"A gift isn't necessary," Fugaku replied, somewhat tersely.
abileunaspada: (It was nothing!)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-22 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, what if I want to? What then?" Okay, maybe she was feeling a little bratty, but she couldn't help it. It seemed like he was the kind of person who'd be fun to prod about silly things every once in a while, in spite of how serious he appeared -- hell, maybe because of it. She didn't get to do it to other people often, only to have it done to her.

"You're inviting me to your house to play with your cats at my leisure, I think that merits some kind of friendly gift or something. Don't you?"
disgruntledmountain: (Resigned)

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-23 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Fugaku wondered how to politely warn Adela is she showed up with gifts, then the neighbors would begin to think and hope she was courting (or being courted by) one of his sons and might find herself the victim of a little too much friendly scrutiny. Genetics generally was a casual hobby of most Uchiha, and he could see his family breaking down Adela into a pros and cons list and presenting it to Fugaku at the next meeting.

It seemed cruel to subject people not in the family to his family when they were only trying to be nice.

Also telling her she needed to sneak in the back and avoid letting anyone see her, or come disguised as a boy would probably send her running the other way, and he didn't want to be stuck on kitten duty every time Mikoto went out.

Fugaku looked at the girl seriously. Dear gods, he's just invited a red-head to his house basically whenever she wanted to show up. You would think after all these years of knowing Kushina, he would know better than to do that. Manners aside, Fugaku had yet to meet a red-head who didn't have a hot streak in them.

"I can't stop you from bringing anything," Fugaku admitted. He wasn't sure her logic balanced out (she would already be doing him a favor, after all), but it wasn't as if tea wouldn't be appreciated and drunk in his house.
abileunaspada: (Okay fine I'm smiling.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-23 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
If only he knew that she did in fact have a giant crush on his second son

"Just small stuff then. Who knows, maybe I can coax you to enjoy the tea with me," Her smile was softer then and she looked back to the kitten. They'd probably reach where he had to go soon, which meant she'd have to give the kitten back. Maybe now it would sit in the basket with its sibling, but who knew for sure. It seemed to still be interested in playtime at least.

It had been a very long time since anyone had enjoyed tea with Fugaku. Anyone but Mikoto. Most other people only came to spend time with him when he made them, or when they wanted something from him. The thought of having someone his children's age teasingly him about enjoying tea with her...

Well, it was half baffling, but mostly made Fugaku realize he had become a very solitary creature, despite the people he saw and all the talking and listening he seemed to do.

Maybe it would do him some good to connect with one of the younger ninja in the village. Or pretend to. "Perhaps." Fugaku wasn't about to agree to being "coaxed" into anything.
