Test Drive Post!
Sunshineverse | ||||||||
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

A statement that made him blink at first. "No, of course --"
He paused, then directed an accusing look at one of Hoderi's golden eyes. "Of course not, right?"
The chick rumbled deep in its throat before butting the side of his head. They were young enough that human speech was still coming slowly to their inhuman vocal chords, but the answer was satisfying enough that Sasuke could turn back to his father, somewhat relieved. "No, Father. I'm usually with them if they're outside."
There was another moment's pause before he clarified, uncertain if Fugaku was actually aware of the unexpected menagerie that had taken residence under his roof: "There are three of them in total, but none of them have taken a cat that I've seen."

Fugaku grunted. "If the cat can't get out of the way of a hawk, it isn't much of a cat." And Fugaku's furry burdens were not cats yet, just kittens. Fugaku nudged the basket beside him under the bench to avoid tempting Sasuke's hawk again.
It was something between amusing and gratifying to see Sasuke chastising his summons. Humorous, Fugaku supposed, because any parent watching their child try to manage young things would be amused. Also, watching Sasuke mature was a completely different process than it had been with Itachi. Itachi had come into the world almost exactly like a mini-adult. Sasuke...not so much.

He'd have to handle the bird later -- for now, he cast about for some topic of conversation that wouldn't lead down the road of his unhappy mission record of late and mostly wished that Itachi were here to take up their father's attention.
"So -- those are for Mother?" He asked finally, gesturing in the general direction of the kittens. It was the only explanation he could think of for why his father would be out and about with baby animals.

"Are you coming or going?" It wouldn't do any good to pretend to Sasuke he knew more about what went on in the boy's life than he did. It was only natural Sasuke would be busy. His career as a ninja was still growing, and what teenager wanted to spend more time at home then they had to?

The question brought his attention back to his father, a hint of embarrassment in his expression when he answered: "Neither. We were hunting in the woods when the rain caught us."
There was no particular reason for him to be embarrassed, but it was such an unusual context in which to run into his father (and clan head) that Sasuke could very nearly feel himself regressing, which in turn only served to make him feel more embarrassed. Had he had any kind of good news to report to his father of late, the situation might have been different, but as it was ...

"Did you catch anything?" Or maybe the little hawk had been trying to supplement a bad hunting day with a kitten?

... which was maybe something he shouldn't be admitting, evidence that sounded like he had limited control over his own summons at the moment. At this rate he had to wonder if they'd even listen to him in a fight, though it wasn't likely he'd be using them in a fight any time soon given how young they were. The idea of any of them getting hurt out of inexperience, however much of a pain they could be at times, was an annoying one.
Attempting to change the subject from himself, he looked around for an umbrella for a moment before concluding: "You got caught by the storm as well, Father?"

Fugaku didn't smile, but the corner of his lip twitched. This was still the paternal amusement at Sasuke managing something younger and more inexperienced than he was. If the other two had hunted well, it didn't seem fair to blame Sasuke for the other's failure, though he wouldn't learn anything if all his summons fell into line to easily. Sasuke needed a challenge to push him. Fugaku had stopped expecting Sasuke to be Itachi (and the more time went on the more he thought it was better for everyone that Sasuke wasn't like Itachi), but that didn't mean he expected anything but excellence from Sasuke, or thought he should take it easy with his training--or his training of others.
It seemed rather obvious that Fugaku had gotten caught in the rain, but he would take the comment as a conversation piece, not Sasuke being unable to deduce that was what had happened. Fugaku wasn't sure why someone would stop for tea with kittens anyway. They were a fairly standard "take this straight home" purchase. He really should have brought a box for them.
Fugaku nodded. Normally his hip predicted the weather with alarming accuracy, but this freak shower had escaped it. "I was. The rain will, at least, make it easier to dig a bed for the bulbs." Fugaku was assuming those needed to be planted soon, though he didn't know if they would have to languish until spring before they were placed in the ground.

At least his choice of conversation change seemed to have worked out, Sasuke glancing back out the shop window at the rain, now less a proper storm than a drizzle. An abject drizzle, but a sign at least that the weather was letting up. As for digging a bed for the bulbs, that definitely sounded like a project his mother wanted done more than anything else.
Sasuke had been away from home far more often than usual this past season, which was normal for a ninja at his age but also meant he had something akin to second-son guilt when he thought about the seasonal traditions that had once been his job to help his mother with. Before he'd properly thought about it, he'd offered: "I'm in town for the next few days. I can help Mother with that."

Well, the house if they were lucky.
Fugaku slowly stood up, trying to disguise the stiff way his hip stretched shifting the kitten in his lap to the crook of his arm and picking up his basket as he stood. He could tolerate a drizzle, and the kittens were just going to have to stand it. "Are you going to take him back out to hunt?" Fugaku inclined his head to the bird, since his hands were full.
