Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

abileunaspada: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Yeah yeah just get it over with already.)

It didn't take long for her to regain composure, and even if she still felt the effects it seemed like the girl had managed to calm down. It was too much to believe that he would simply let her go then and there, and with a deep breath she felt the last of her hesitation fade into nothing. A hand rose to wipe at her brow when she sat up, meeting his eye now that she had some space, "I wasn't kidding when I said I was probably over-reacting. Sorry about that, that was probably a pain in the ass for you too."

Why had she panicked like that? Even she didn't fully understand it, and it was frustrating and worrisome to no end. What was she supposed to do if she ran into a hostile Kiri nin on a mission? No, she couldn't do that shit. Whether this was a one-time reaction or something that would happen a lot she didn't know, but she'd definitely have to report it -- and her encounter with this guy, whether it broke out into a fight or not.

But considering what he had just done, when she was pretty much helpless? She was more inclined to relax and actually converse with him then. At least for now, it seemed like he wasn't intending to start anything.

"I get the feeling you didn't let me rest just because I actually needed it, so what're the other reasons?"

"It was an honest reaction." Kisame said lightly, and added a shrug for good measure. "Interesting too. It doesn't jeopardize my mission here, even if the attention was more than I wanted."

He took a few moments to look her over, being very pointed about the perusal. "You're no civilian, and you're still alive, so you can't be useless, Milani-kun. But if my mission had been to capture or kill you, you realize you would have made it ridiculously easy, don't you."

That was no question, but her question made Kisame laugh. He sobered up instantly though. "You know better than to ask that, Milani-kun. You've grown though. And here I thought you'd fallen to Kiri's politics so long ago. Enjoying your new village, kid?"

Why he actually answered the question after the admonition, well, Kisame was curious and if she spilled secrets about Konoha, more for him to report. He wondered if Sephiroth knew she lived, or more to the point, where.

Now she was getting even more confused. He was speaking like he knew her, and not just because she had caused a lot of trouble over a year ago just by existing. Still, him letting her know that capture or assassination wasn't his mission (at least not with her involved) allowed her to relax even further. She knew better than to ask further about what his mission actually was, and the relevant parts had been delivered already.

But fallen to Kiri's politics? It almost made her wince, but even with the swell of emotion that came she managed to push through and stay calm. Well, calmer than she was. She was able to look at him without looking like a mouse about to meet its fate to a cat.

"I am. I've built a life there, a good one."

True, she wanted to address his words about the mission, but... Honestly, what more could be said? As much of a sting to her pride as it was, he was right -- in that time she was a ridiculously easy target, and she hated herself for it. What if it had been a missing nin who believed the stupid eye rumor? Or someone who knew what her real power was...

Wait, why was she thankful when this was someone she didn't even know? Or was it, he seemed kinda familiar but... Ugh, she couldn't recall it.

So she didn't recognize him. Probably for the best, because everyone knew the leader of the Seven had spent plenty of time hunting down defectors and brutally ending their existence, even if they didn't know his face. There was no fun in terrorizing a girl who wasn't at his level yet. It wasn't honest and wouldn't make a good fight.

He couldn't help but scoff at her comment a little. It was so hard to believe, even if he could see she believed it. "Is that so. I'm sure Konoha is happy with the arrangement. A Milani with your potential to mold into a powerful weapon is worth twice your weight in gold and secrets, eh?"

Kisame was tempted to give warning, but though the kid herself had been young, and it was the uncle and parents at primary fault, she was still technically a defector. It didn't sit well with him, because he knew deep down, that given the opportunity and assurance of the truth he so desperately yearned for, he might have done the same. But there hadn't been, and so he'd stayed. Now his loyalty, even with all the lies, was his last good quality. It was always unsettling when it came to thoughts of this.

But Kisame wasn't about to reveal things like that to this virtual stranger, and potential enemy to boot, so he just watched instead.

Hey give her a break, she was a little kid! Granted, not that little, but that didn't mean that remembering her childhood in Kirigakure was always easy. At hearing the assessment she just sighed, slumping forward and resting her arms on her knees. He was right, again, and she knew it. She didn't want to admit it, but she wouldn't be half as valuable to Konoha without her dota... That was why there was such a big fuss over her in the first place.

"... My parents died so I could have a choice on how to live my life, regardless of the dota. Yeah, Konoha probably is happy that I chose to become a shinobi, but it was still that -- a choice. The council might have tried to push this life on me but the Hokages weren't going to allow it without my consent. That's the important part to me."

She didn't want to say it, but the implication was there -- she wouldn't have had that choice if she remained in Kirigakure. Though she might have picked the life regardless, that it was her own decision really drove the point home to her. Maybe this guy wouldn't understand it, but even shark guy had to respect it a little right?

... Wait, shark guy...

After a few moments she frowned, squinting here eyes at him as she tried to figure it out. How many people did she know with blue skin like that? The gears were finally starting to turn, and she tilted her head a bit.

"Aren't you that shark man who used to bother my cousin sometimes?"
noboatbigenough: (Big Bad... Shark.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-21 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Kisame almost reared back, a shocked expression on his face for the barest flicker of a second. Even when he instantly composed himself he couldn't keep the incredulity out of his voice. "You were given a choice, kid? Are you so sure you weren't just manipulated into making the choice they wanted?"

Kisame hadn't had that luxury, not as a member of an established clan, even one without an 'official' kekkei genkai, and with such promise. Indeed, the only luxury he'd been afforded was late Academy entry, but only because of the need to perfect his control of his hideously large chakra reserves at the hands of the clan--who he at least would have had more difficulty accidentally drowning than the average academy student. He hadn't self-destructed during the training, eaten up and burned out by his own too-large chakra, and so off to Academy and near instantaneous graduation he had gone. And the rest, as they said, was history.

But her question brought him out of his dark thoughts and made him laugh. "That's how you remember me, kid? Accurate, I suppose. Sephiroth-san was always worthy of attention."
abileunaspada: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Yeah so what's that mean?)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-21 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know some people who'd kill for me if they thought it wasn't that way. I'd say I'm pretty sure," Finally a ghost of a smirk pulled at her lips, showing just how much she'd let down her guard.

That he was laughing at her other statement got her to relax more, and she was sitting up again in order to add, "I don't think I could ever remember your name, Shark-san. Sorry about that, m'not very good with them."
noboatbigenough: (Might be a cunning linguist.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-22 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Comrades, eh? What a luxurious life you live in Konoha." Though he was laughing, there was a touch of some emotion, like the undertow in the waves crashing ashore, in it. Jealousy, perhaps. Longing? Something at least, for the attentive to pick up on.

Still smiling, Kisame slipped into something a little more serious. Technically, revealing his real name would go against the mission, but as ever, the lie left a bitter taste in his mouth. But he could compromise, because it had been no use pretending he wasn't a Hoshigaki.

"But you should recognize Hoshigaki I'd think; even those from Konoha do."
abileunaspada: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (I-I'm not blushing!)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-22 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
... The laughing wasn't entirely genuine, but she couldn't pinpoint why. It didn't let her reciprocate, instead still trying to figure him out by the time he spoke again.

Hoshigaki? Processing... Oh. That clan. She sat more at attention then, clearly a little surprised both by his presence and by how much sense it made, considering, "Yeah, I do. If Sephiroth acknowledged you, you've gotta be exceptional in general too."

That just made her think more about the panic attack... And how much it effected her, and even into why. Her stomach flipped a little at the thought -- echoes of childhood speaking loud. But was that really why...?

No, she couldn't think about that now. A sigh and she shook her head, gripping her bangs, "Thanks for the warning. I know I probably shouldn't just take your word, but it's kind of hard not to by now."
noboatbigenough: (Srs bzns.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-22 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am well-feared. Sephiroth-san is someone I enjoy sparring with." His smile was more honest when he talked about Sephiroth. He admired the other for many reasons, not the least his strength and his honesty.

The smile turned cutting at her last remark and Kisame shook his head. "Like I said, you're not my mission, but I will report your presence to Mizukage-sama. The next time you see me, don't expect anything but capture or death. You should think of staying closer to Konoha, eh?"
abileunaspada: (Look it's nothing okay?)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-22 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"... Yeah, I probably should." He was right. She had every reason to be afraid. Every reason to fear him, or anyone with a kiri headband if she was outside of the village. Her gaze went down then, and although she tried to hide it she couldn't mask the sadness that had appeared then.

"I guess it's just a new cage after all..."

Adela, likely, wasn't aware of what she said (or at least that it was aloud). She loved the village dearly, but with what had happened... The encounter with Shark-san made it obvious that Kiri was still after her, even if Sephiroth himself wasn't. Maybe being a ninja was her own choice, but she wouldn't ever be free regardless of what career she chose. Not really. She wouldn't ever get a choice of where she went without her past breathing down her neck, and it was a miracle she had this mission to begin with. If she reported honestly, any solo missions like this would get taken away from her, forever... Which was both a blessing and a curse.

More of a curse, at the moment.

"First you say you have choices and then you call Konoha a cage. Make up your mind, Milani-kun. If you don't want to stay so close to home, get stronger and conquer your fear."

Kisame said that like it was the most obvious thing in the world, and to him, it was. The Hoshigaki were a rough clan to grow up in, expecting fortitude and tenacity over just about anything else. Sink or swim in a very literal way. In his own way, he say it as a kind of aid, however little it was. Maybe it was her relation to Sephiroth, maybe her promise of growing into a powerful opponent, but he wasn't going to kill her, so why not?

Kisame looked her over, aware on some level that she would inspire sympathy in others. He only felt hollow and vaguely uncomfortable with the depressed look she wore. It was a little too familiar in some ways.
abileunaspada: (Damn it! I wasn't strong enough...)

"I want to think it's true, that I am choosing my own path. Lately it just doesn't feel like it anymore, and meeting you here just cements it. It might just all be a giant lie," She frowned, resting her chin in her hand as she looked towards some of the more prominent structures in the garden.

"... I'll keep your advice in mind -- all of it. It's the least I can do, and nothing's gonna change if I just let shit keep happening to me without doing anything about it."
noboatbigenough: (WTF?!)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-23 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Kisame really hadn't been expecting that. It hit home in ways that almost physically hurt, bringing out bloody memories and a flood of emotion. Where do I go? Where can I go?

The breath he drew in hissed through clenched teeth, and Kisame had to consciously force tight muscles and clenched fists to relax. He'd fallen into a ready stance in the split second she'd said 'giant lie' and it was actually hard to force himself back into something that resembled relaxation. He knew he wasn't being entirely successful, and it made him feel more vulnerable than he had in a long time.

He couldn't look at her. "I'll leave you to it. I have a mission to complete."

In a split second he was on the garden wall, and there he paused, back to the garden. Part of him fought to look back, to say something to address what she'd said, and it made him hesitate. Oh, what a fool he was. A hesitation like that could easily get him killed in another situation. He needed to leave, now.
abileunaspada: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (What I fight for...?)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-23 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"... Good luck."

Was it something she said? Who knew, why he suddenly felt like he had to leave. She was confused, why he suddenly seemed tense and jumped away, she wasn't sure. It had her on edge, and she didn't like it.

Just what was it...

"... Thanks again, Hoshigaki-san. I hope the next time we meet is under better circumstances."

She could offer him that much... And that was when she went to the opposite wall, towards the inn she was staying at. They had their own respective missions to complete, but for the moment Adela was just finished with the day. Anything to just allow herself a moment to rest and truly relax, maybe with some good food and drink.
noboatbigenough: (Shit just got serious.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-23 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That someone could recognize their life as a lie and still say something like that. Kisame couldn't let that pass. It was just a nicety. A false hope. It would hurt more when it came back to blow up in hi--her face. He didn't turn to look, standing as rigid as a statue. His voice held a little heat, the word 'lie' spit out like it was poison.

"The world is already a lie; don't add to it, Milani-kun. The only thing you can do against it is stop lying to yourself."

Then he was gone, even as she started to move in the opposite direction.
