Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

problemdaimyo: (The very picture of a lord)

Whatever he found would probably be...not very interesting, actually. The Land of Noodles was a prosperous nation, and for years there have been rumors of a developing shinobi village hidden somewhere on the island...but in practice it's nothing but a quiet civilian nation abnormally focused on the creation of noodle-related items.

But it's polite not to say 'abnormally so' while within the borders.

The message was most likely some sort of amendment to the current trade agreement between the Land of Noodles and Kiri, because there's very little else that could be an important document sent to the daimyo of such a small nation as the Land of Noodles.

If he was expecting to be able to wander freely until being ushered in to meet with the daimyo, however, he...would have been disappointed. The daimyo himself tended to frequently wander the capitol whenever he could escape the grip of his counselors, and that was what he was in the process of currently. Wandering and socializing with villagers, that was, not escaping. He'd already managed that.

The sight of an unfamiliar jounin (his uniform indicated...Kirigakure?) pulled the daimyo up short, however, and he turned his attention and his path toward the towering man (he was even slightly taller than Hotohori himself: quite impressive) instead of the tea shop he'd been considering a moment before.

"A visitor to the Land of Noodles...?"

Ah, but interesting was a relative term. Kisame was very interested. He'd read the various intelligence reports on Noodles and its recent history. He wasn't sure if he should believe the rumors of home grown shinobi here or not, but he was prepared for everything, and one piece of intelligence was now proven very true. So the daimyo did mingle among his people. He liked this one better than his own daimyo already--of course he'd threatened to pull out that one's lying tongue and feed it right back on more than one occasion, so it wasn't that much of a feat.

Kisame bowed politely, and made sure his speech and tone showed the appropriate deference. This one, at least, looked like he actually deserved it. "On official business. I have documents to deliver that I'm sure you'll want to look at. Of course, I wouldn't want to interrupt you if official business isn't on your agenda right now, and I don't mind looking around and sampling the sights and other things."

Ah, the Kiri message. Had it been today it was meant to arrive? What a shame to happen, one one of the few fair weather days of the season. He'd be necessarily shut up in the palace all day listening to the counselors debate about what to demand and what to give in response to the trade amendments.

"Ah...to pretend neither of us have seen each other and continue on our ways until others come to collect me for business?" Under normal circumstances he'd insist on less formal behavior from a shinobi, but while addressing such official business it would be an insult to Kiri to do so. Still, he gave a soft sigh of disappointment. At a time he'd managed to escape so easily...he would almost suspect his counselors expected him to encounter this shinobi and be dragged back immediately. But that was unlikely.

He offered the shinobi a small, but pleasantly professional, smile. "Never fear. I would never do such a thing to an envoy of Water. However, it would be inappropriate to accept such documents here where I am unprepared to handle them. If you'll accompany me to the palace the Land of Noodles will happily receive the documents. If you wish, you are still welcome to stay and experience what sights and attractions there are to be found here afterward, as well."

To Kisame, the first option sounded like it would be the more interesting, especially since the Daimyo himself had seemed to spend a moment considering it, but the second was the more responsible option.

He dipped his head down in a deep nod, not quite a bow, but a warrior's show of respect. "I would be honored to accompany you, and I appreciate the invitation for once business is concluded."

There really wasn't much else to say, so he let himself fall into step, at just the right distance to be an obvious company, but not crowding, and a good distance for protection too, not that Kisame seemed aware of that fact. He was, of course, but it was a good tactic to judge reactions on. Would he be pleased at the guarding? Annoyed? Confused? So many ways for it to go.

The first was the more interesting option, second only perhaps to the option where they both explored the village together and pretended not to recognize each other. Unfortunately, as daimyo, he didn't have the luxury to shirk his responsibilities, no matter how he might like to.

He responded in kind to the shinobi, giving a nod which was appropriate for a man of his position, but held what mutual respect he could for a shinobi. He would have liked to be friendlier and treat the man as an equal, but while he was an envoy of Kirigakure, Hotohori was daimyo rather than shinobi. Such was life.

He noted the position of the man as he walked. It was...a curious choice. There was no threat to be found in the Land of Noodles (save for the occasional time that there was), and a man from the Land of Water had no responsibility to protect one from the Land of Noodles even if there were. Was it a sign of respect, perhaps? Most other Kiri nin he'd dealt with hadn't defaulted to that respective position, so it was very unlikely to simply be usual procedure of the land.

Rather than dwell on it in silence or address it, he simply opened up another path of conversation. "Am I correct in believing you come from the Hoshigaki clan?" He'd done research on so many clans that there were many he'd forgotten, but a distinctive one so close to home was easy to remember. Discussion of clans was a compromise of official and casual conversation appropriate of the walk they were on.

Well, the daimyo accepted it, even if Kisame thought he saw some curiosity there. There was no reason to stop now that he had gotten his reaction, and really, Kisame wouldn't put it past someone to have arranged an accident to get rid of the threat he posed. Subtly, of course, because on paper Kisame was very much in favor. It was almost comfortable, because Kisame had spent many missions protecting, even if it ended up with comrade's blood on his hands later. He hadn't done that for a long time though; and hoped never to again. No, better to only pick comrades who knew what was expected, rather than sheep.

The question was amusing in its own way. As if it wasn't obvious! "I am; you know your clans. Curious, are you, Xing-shu-sama?"

There was plenty he wouldn't, or couldn't reveal, but Kisame wasn't averse to asking a few basic questions that were essentially common knowledge anyway.

It would be quite unfortunate if someone arranged an accident to happen while within the Land of Noodles. Hotohori frowned on such practices, his own family all having been eliminated by such 'accidents' by his scheming mother. Noodle prices would steeply increase if such underhanded behavior were caught within his borders. Particularly as such 'accidents' had a habit of endangering nearby civilians, and he took threats to his people poorly.

He gave a mild smile, allowing for the moment the use of his proper name due to the situation. "Well, the Hoshigaki clan is a very distinctive clan. I think it's a greater reflection upon your clan than my knowledge. It is an interest of mine to study history when I can, however." Despite what some might believe, he was perfectly capable of modesty when it came to things not to do with his looks.

...But why would he be modest about his beauty? He was incredibly beautiful.

Kisame wasn't exactly expecting one to happen, but one could never be too prepared for treachery. It happened far too often, especially in Kiri.

"We do have a particular look; that's true! And what history do you know of my clan?"

Kisame was used to fielding questions about his clan from those outside Kiri, and even some inside, though they should know better, and found that the best defense was deflection. If the man was recounting what he knew, he wouldn't be asking things of Kisame. And it never hurt to know the current rumors about the clan!
