Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

uchiha takuya | oc | konohagakure

[personal profile] pseuchiha 2014-12-30 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
When Takuya was a chuunin, right at the beginning of his troubles, he'd been young enough and angry enough and bitter enough to believe that he had hit rock bottom. That his life was as terrible as it was ever going to get, and that crushing, unbearable weight of the clan's collective shame and disappointment bearing down on him was going to be the end of him.

But he was wrong. Back then was only the beginning. The end did not come for him all at once.

No, the end is just this. A thousand little deaths, like needles pushed into his skin, like swallowing broken glass and having to take seconds, like being cut open and stitched shut filled with hot coals that burn hotter with every breath he takes, every step, every heartbeat.

He'd thought himself to be past disappointment, past sorrow, past anger.

And he was wrong.

It doesn't seem that Uchiha Takuya can ever exhaust himself of being wrong.

He doesn't know how long he's been standing here. Outside his empty, shuttered house.

They moved without telling him. His parents. That or they died, but were that the case there'd be at least someone gossiping about it. Takuya doesn't expect much out of the family, but he does expect Ayane would have heard something of her own sister's death, and he would like to think that she would say something to him about it.

But then, what does Takuya know about anything anyway.

He's not really sure why he came, just that it's been a long time since he's been home. It's been colder lately. He brought some things for nabe, though he wasn't going to stay for dinner.

They're still his parents.

...well, it's still his mother.

It's not like it matters, not really. They're a shinobi village. Plenty enough people don't have parents at all. This is little different.

Takuya sits down on the porch of the empty house and doesn't move again for a while.

Sasuke doesn't recognise the person standing outside the empty house on immediate sight, though there is something familiar enough about the face that he can probably assume that he knows the guy. Then again, given what part of the village this is, he usually not only knows but is in some degree related to the people wandering around.

Not that this one's doing much wandering. Was he looking for someone, maybe?

"Hey," he calls down from the roof he's been travelling across, dropping down with another curious look -- trying to match a name with the face. "That family moved about a month ago." Sasuke had been detailed to rally some of the younger cousins to assist with the move, to his considerable displeasure. "Who were you looking for?"

The expression on Takuya's face upon setting eyes on the approaching stranger is one of immediate displeasure. Naturally a completely random passerby would know more about the status of his own family than him. Takuya's not sure why he'd ever assume any different.

Upon second glance, however, there's something familiar about this particular distant cousin. It's more than just the usual trademarks of one of the clan, beyond the fair complexion contrasted against dark hair and dark eyes. It's something about the silhouette of his unruly hair, the heightened delicacy in bone structure, the almost too-pretty face.

...Mikoto's spawn, perhaps? The younger one. The one with the brother complex, fraternizes with that Hyuuga girl, and is seen with Ayane from time to time. What was his name, Satoshi...?

"...no one," he finally answers after sneering over at Sasuke for the better part of a full minute, glancing irritably off to one side. "I took a wrong turn."

That being said, he makes no move to get up, vaguely shifting the bag in his hands.

"Headed home, Sacchan?"

It's the only name Takuya can currently conjure up for the other man.

Ah yes, her closest relative in both blood and familiarity. ...And age, ironically. Her mother had married and given birth quite young, and Ayane's older sister had seen fit to follow suite; by timing entirely awkward, Ayane and Takuya's conception had occurred barely a month apart. (Despite being aunt and nephew, they grew up more like twins than anything else, inseparable until puberty.)

Anyhow, she can smell his skulk from a mile away and offers a noncommittal hum of acknowledgement when he settles down next to her. Shoots him a wary stare but pushes the rest of her bowl toward him all the same, reaching for the second one. (She thinks of it not unlike feeding a persistent puppy, though in truth it takes an incredible amount of affection generosity for her to part with her food when she genuinely needs it in her system.)

"Look, I might be missing an arm but I've still got both my tits. And a nice pair of legs," she says, gesturing sardonically with her eating utensils. "How much effort does it really take to pick up a clan bottom-feeder."

Disinterested as she is in contributing to further the inbreeding of their esteemed bloodline, she's relatively sure the Uchiha could care less about her mating choices, so long as she pops out another set of Sharingan somewhere down the road...

Unfortunately she's decided to forestall the shower in favor of grub, so she's probably only at 50%. (Okay, 60, food is gr9.)

And, Mika's got a sharp eye for family genes, one that might make Ayane fidget were she in enemy territory. (She often feigns being a Nara on missions, though she hasn't got facial structure quite sharp enough for the part-- still, she's less likely to be targeted for her eyes when she's pretending to be a shadow-user.)

As it is, she can hardly hear the other woman's thoughts, and she sets down her bowl with surprising delicacy when addressed.

"Probably because I've only been here twice." (Usually she goes for curry after missions but she's had her fill of spicy foods in the past three months...) She offers a wry smile in return, though it isn't unkind. "I take it you're a regular?"

"Hmm, that so." ANBU missions are wildly varied, though of course Ayane can't go about divulging her own involvement, not even to family. (Her own uniform and mask lie tucked away at the very bottom of her rucksack, and upon remembering them she briefly muses if Itachi's out somewhere vested and armored in gray. ---Probably, she decides, without much worry.)

But speaking of familial concern, she can't help but lift a brow at Sasuke's inquiry.

"Do I look like I need-- ...Nevermind, don't answer that." If anything she probably shares some vague resemblance with his own father, sleep-deprived and baggy and all that. (Not that she's careless enough to insult Uncle Fugaku in public.)

"I'm fine," she insists with a dismissive motion of her hand. "Still got this arm properly attached, but if you're really worried you're free to give me a checkup."

She doesn't exactly waggle her eyebrows, but if the comment (more sarcastic than actually suggestive) doesn't deter him from pressing the issue she's not sure what will...

It's not working, a part of Sasuke's mind that sounded disturbingly like his panic response said, and which Sasuke shoved away because he wasn't afraid of a fellow Konoha-nin, for fuck's sake. Just discomfited by the repeated invasion of his space, and the excessively personal advice. How had he managed to avoid becoming personally acquainted with Lee up until now? What had failed?

"I don't see that that's your business," he said, a note of stress in his voice despite his best efforts. "Isn't there anyone else you can assist? Someone who needs it?"

Apparently the question isn't what the ... Sasuke can only assume distant cousin wants to hear. He lifts an eyebrow, not interested in commenting on the rudeness, though part of him (less territorial about actual territory than people, which Sasuke is fully aware doesn't actually mean a lot) wants badly to ask why he's parked on the front step of an empty house if he's lost.

In any case, his company clearly isn't wanted, so Sasuke shrugs a shoulder and is about to head on his way when that question hits the air.

He stops where he is, then drags his gaze back to the man with an incredulous furrow in his brow. "Excuse me?"

Sasuke makes a noncommittal sound, leaving the topic of Itachi's frequent and varied absences from home aside: it's not something he particularly wants to discuss with anyone, not even Itachi right now. Fugaku and Mikoto might be willing to take his recent absences from home as evidence of work ethic, but he has less confidence about not looking strange in front of Itachi's sharp eyes.

The topic of Ayane's health is considerably easier. Sasuke kicks back in his chair until he's balanced on its back legs, folding his arms and craning his neck so he can give her a more complete once-over.

The clan is bad enough at making personal boundaries fuzzy; spending his formative years around grouchy and impatient medics has probably not helped on that front. On the bright side, her prosthetic does look like it's still firmly in place and not awkwardly loose. He's tempted to do a second sweep with the Sharingan to check for chakra irregularities, but that is at least a breach of conduct that he'll reserve for immediate family.

"Shinobi get cocky after being in the field for as many years as you have," he says, putting emphasis on many. "Too many of us end up burning out early from preventable problems."

She wasn't expecting an apology in return, quickly figures she must've caught the other staring. (Not that she blames the redhead, it's probably kind of difficult not to notice her general state of disheveled and disgusting.)

"That obvious, huh." Her tone of voice is both gentle and teasing, as if trying to avoid scaring the other guest off. She imbibes another mouthful of broth before continuing with a nod, "I did. Sand Country. Have you been before?"

The kunoichi in question doesn't look too much younger than herself, but Ayane knows better than to assume experience from age. She might have traveled more than half the world by now, or she might've never left Konoha. (Either way it isn't for her to say.)

Juugo flinched at the touch, and when immediate escape wasn't available, he curled in on himself as small, and as far away, as Nagato's hold allowed.

He hardly noticed that it wasn't so close to the surface anymore, only a little relief bleeding into the wordless panic gripping him. Juugo wanted away and the little birds were in a tizzy, upset on his behalf. One braver one even tried to dive at Nagato's head to peck at his hair.

No, no, no, nonoNO. He couldn't-- She couldn't--! It made him sick to even think about it but she had to run. Or he did--

"It's me. He was supposed to help, but he made me fight them and blood, so much blood--"

Juugo stumbled backwards, and when he spoke again, it was strained and high pitched, nearly a scream. "I don't want to hurt you too!"

It wasn't any closer, but he could almost feel it burning and swirling in his palms, underneath the coat of blood that never quite washed away. He stared at his hands and let out a choked sob. He just wanted to be safe, but that would never happen, so Juugo turned to start running again.

He tilted his head so the bird missed and then mad a soothing sound, kneeling in the dirt and keeping his hand resting on the boy, pulling his chakra with slow care, not wanting to damage him, but he said nothing, nor did he lift a hand to try to batt the birds away. The animals were understandably distressed given the boy's state.

Still, given more energy from the steady influx of chakra, it made him able to better focus and widen his senses to what he was seeing without driving himself to collapse.

Then, he waited. He had nowhere to be, and he fed the chakra off to control of his other Paths so they could watch over things while he was busy.

If it took a while, then it took a while, and he knew words wouldn't help at this point, so he wouldn't use them until they did.

Juugo shrank in on himself, much like his little birds were doing. His arms went around his chest and he gripped his sides hard, breathing in an uneven gasp. His whole posture screamed fear and don't-come-close, and it was only the chakra that didn't match the rest. Even Juugo's rusty voice had a thread of fear in it.

It was as there as it always was, but not close enough to scare his friends. Maybe if he answered the questions he could go, and make himself safe, somewhere quiet and with no people he could reach.

"I was looking for somewhere safe."

Let that be enough. Every moment was a moment closer to blood---no. No.

Even without the words, the attitude of the man's body gave away his fear -- and it was something immediate, Sasuke could tell that much, not the sort of harried presence of someone on the run from a more distant threat. Of what, Sasuke couldn't tell, given that the forest around them was still peaceful with afternoon light and faint birdsong, but the words only confirmed it.

His eyes narrowed slightly, the awareness of the chakra tickling the instinctive want for the Sharingan's clearer sight but not quite enough to activate it just yet. Whatever someone with a chakra like this was afraid of, he knew with certainty that he didn't want it to lead to Konoha without the village being thoroughly prepared.

"What's the danger? I know this area; I can find you a haven if you need it."

It took a while, but eventually when it still hadn't come out, and Juugo felt more settled than he did any other time except after,, the panic started to ease. He was still incredibly uncomfortable. The touching only reminded him of Orochimaru and the experiments and fights and--

But it was so quiet, and that made Juugo feel safe. Safer, at least. And the birds had long given up on dissuading Nagato from doing what he was doing, and they could sense that Juugo was calmer, and that made them relax too, a little bit.

What was happening, though? Juugo didn't understand. Usually when he got especially afraid, it came out. But not this time. There was something. He could feel something different, but Juugo wasn't sure exactly what it was. Just... different. The opposite of usual, somehow.

So he finally lifted his head. "What are you?"

"I'm the God of my country." He tilted his head back toward the rain behind him. "I watch over my land, and I've noticed you before through my other eyes."

He paused a moment, tone particularly gentle, though he didn't take his hand off of him. "Do you feel better now? Your chakra was... unsettled, so I took the extra from you."

He probably didn't look that impressive, still looking so old and tired, but he didn't lie, and that was clear enough in his posture, voice, and resolve.

In spite of herself, the kunoichi gave a soft chuckle at his initial question. "What do you think I'm doing here, Lee?"

As if the bags weren't any indication of her reasoning. Because what other purpose would a person have to even be in a bakery? She certainly could not think of any. Regardless, she tried her best to wave away any of the young man's efforts to help. Tenten had meant what she said before about his help not being necessary. But then, she really should have known better than to think Rock Lee would ever take 'No' for an answer.

"No, really Lee, you don't have to..." So, rather than be discouraged or insistent when he reached for her bags, the kunoichi simply sighed and resigned to her fate, grabbing what bags were left with a helpless laugh after he was done taking his handful. "I'm doing fine. How are you today?"

Ronin | epic| ...independant clan? idk

[personal profile] sweetestsmile 2015-01-05 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It had been a while since Ronin had left their forest, but this was urgent. And maybe they'd been apart from the larger world for too long. Ronin didn't even know if he would be welcome here anymore. So much had changed since his last visit, which had been recon during the last war the stomp--well, it wasn't polite to think of them like that, especially since he needed their aid-- the village ninja has waged on each other. It had been the wars, really, that had dissuaded them from joining the villages. Better to remain small and peaceful, tending to and protecting their forest than to engage in such bloodshed.

So Ronin perched his bird, and took a few hops to the ground. He didn't want to be big again, even though he was old enough to still remember a time when big had been the normal size, but needs must, even if it made him feel so clumsy and slow. It was so much harder to get and keep people's attention when he was small, which, truthfully was usually one of the best benefits. The hand seals were hesitant at first, then picked up and then--

It was disorienting, making him feel like he was being spun in a tornado, and Ronin remained kneeling for a moment, shaking his head.

To an onlooker, it would appear like a flickering image of a man, suddenly growing (and not all at a pace with himself) and distorting and finally settling into something solid. The very solid, and very real, chakra and all, man, was dressed in green--leaves, it looked like--and carried a very sharp sword. And an instant later, a hummingbird fluttered down and set himself on the man's shoulder.

Ronin smiled sadly at his friend's forlorn chirp. "This won't take long; then I'll be back to normal."

But he had a mission, so Ronin marched up to the first ninja he could identify. "I'm Ronin of the Youjin Clan. I've come on a peaceful mission and it's vital that I speak to your leader as soon as possible."

Hope burned up. Had this...god taken it away? Was that really all that was necessary. Juugo's expression filled with the hope, so naked and vulnerable, and then the expression shattered.

No, it was dim, much more than usual, but he could still feel it like a sleeping snake curled inside his chest. So it wasn't gone, just asleep for a little while, which was better than anything Orochimaru had managed. But it wouldn't last, would it, and then it would come out again, and he would kill, and kill, and kill again.

Juugo sighed. "No."

But he'd heard Orochimaru talking about chakra. No one had ever explained to him exactly what it was. It could be taken and shared, it seemed, and Juugo could put enough together to know it was very important to ninja. But what was it exactly?

"Chakra?"

The hope across Juugo's face was so naked and vulnerable that he looked years younger for a moment, not that he looked particularly old normally. Even the little birds looked happier, responding to their friend's uplifted mood.

When the fear crept back a little, Juugo felt it settle and back down too. Good. So good. If this man could show him a haven, a safe place, where no matter how violent it was, no one would be hurt, then Juugo could be content.

"Where is the haven?" Juugo paused. "Are there people there?"

If there were, then it wouldn't be a good place and his hopeful expression flickered at the thought.

That first reaction and its accompanying question were good signs, Sasuke thinking about how best to present someone with chakra like that to the gate guards without getting them both immediately pinned down by security, but the follow-up made him blink his focus back to the man in surprise. It was a strangely general way to phrase it, something that made Sasuke question again exactly what it was causing so much fear.

"What kind of people are you looking to avoid?" He asked, though he was also thinking of his own camp not too far away, established in a cave tucked out of sight beneath a cliff face and newly made cozy for his impromptu free weekend. And speaking of his own weekend ... "Or are you looking to avoid everyone?"

He should have been more concerned for his own neck, perhaps, but unless the total panic that had been flickering through this person's expressions up until now were top-notch artifice, he wasn't expecting anything he couldn't handle. And even an outright attack would have been a change from --

A change.

If everyone was the answer, then it was unlikely that he was a specific enemy of Konoha's, though there did follow the risk that he was a missing-nin. But nothing about his movements thus far told of shinobi training, for all the chakra nearly pouring out of him.

With how focused he was, it was effortless work to pick up the mood changes. It gentled his demeanor even more. "Chakra is energy of the body and mind combined. In your case, you seem to pull it directly from nature itself. You were unaware that you did so?"

He leaned in, just a little, ringed eyes careful int he way they examined him. "It is the basis of life, and all things that live have some form of it. It changes with moods and skills, and yours is very unbalanced. Focus on me for a moment."

He lifted his other hand, putting it on Juugo's and pulling a little harder on his chakra. "Do you feel that sensation? That is me taking chakra from you. It is a very uncommon skill." Then he stopped, having no desire to hurt the boy.

Unaware? Juugo supposed so. Was it just chakra? If it was, and chakra could be taken, could this man take all of it away? He wanted that, no matter the risk. He'd gone to Orochimaru to have it cured, even not knowing if he would live through it, or what 'experiments' the man would require in return would be.

He could feel the sensation, almost like a little bit of himself had flowed like water into the other man. It was almost like a taste on the back of his tongue, and one Juugo wasn't sure he liked, because the taste was a little bit like it. And yet, the man had taken some of it and it wasn't coming out and taking him over. He seemed as quiet and calm as he'd been this whole time.

So Juugo nodded. It was still sleeping inside him. The man had called him unbalanced--but so did many--so could the balance be fixed?

Juugo would rather it just be taken away entirely. "Can you take all of it?"
