Test Drive Post!
Sunshineverse | ||||
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

There were birds chirping happily in the trees, civilians hawking their wares and greeting each other politely, and though Lee waved boisterously to anyone who so much as briefly looked his way, he found that most of them were likely very busy as few people made eye contact as he passed them by. Still, all in all Lee found no complaints to be made on this refreshing day off. At this rate he might even have time to get some laundry done after dinner, and--
Coming to a full stop both in body and mind, Lee glanced around at his surroundings as all at once he felt something very slightly amiss with the scenery. It was a sort of discomfort, something like faint paranoia that raised the hairs on the back of Lee's neck-- Or perhaps it just felt like indigestion, but all the same it--
There!
Lee caught sight of his target as a gust of wind briefly raised the flap of some curtains at the entryway of the small bakery just across the way. It was a person. A person he knew, probably, though sometimes it was hard to tell from the back. And they were sad.
"--fear not, for it is I, Rock Lee!" he announced as he sprinted in, arms still full of his own groceries. But never mind those, he didn't need those. Dinner plans were for people unburdened by the sorrows of a loved one! So he tossed the bags aside without another thought, attention still fixed upon the possibly sad person whose identity he had not yet fully confirmed.
"I have come to assist you!"
why don't i have more horrified icons
If he thought about it, nobody in the village could avoid recognizing Rock Lee. He was essentially a smaller Gai.
After a long pause in which the other people in the shop glanced at one another in consternation, he finally ventured to offer: "No one here is in need of assistance."
because your sasuke game is weak
"No need to be so modest, Sasuke-kun! There is no shame in receiving aid from friends in times of need! Rather than thinking of it as weakness, please view it as a training exercise to strengthen your bonds of friendship! It is the Konoha way!" Lee proclaimed, then did a visual inventory of Sasuke's cinnamon bun purchase.
"--!! Sasuke-kun, are you only buying cinnamon buns today? Are all of those for you?"
wow rUDE
Sasuke, in the meantime, was scouting the best path to the exit out of the corner of his eye while trying to parse the number of words he'd just been subjected to at rapid speed. What was Lee even -- receiving aid? Bonds of friendship?
The only thing that made sense was the question at the end, which Sasuke grasped at like a lifeline. "Uh, no -- they're not for me. They're for my friend, who, uh, I need to go see. Right now."
no subject
Pointing at Sasuke's purchase, Lee leaned in even further to peer directly into the other young man's eyes.
"You seem to have mistakenly purchased three buns for the two of you! That is as odd number, indivisible by two! You should purchase at least one more to avoid any awkward conversations about who is to have the last roll!"
And then Lee paused, gaze narrowing.
"...unless that is the point? Is this-- Could it be young love?! Do you mean to demonstrate your kind and generous nature by surrendering the last baked good? Who is the fortunate soul??"
no subject
"What," he started, glancing down at himself in deep confusion as to what was wrong with his presentation (civvies, check; Uchiha shirt, check; minimal weapon complement in order to demonstrate a healthy confidence in village security, check), but before he could begin to pinpoint anything else he was forced to clutch the box of cinnamon buns more tightly to his chest out of concern that they might be ripped from his hands and forcibly turned into four.
"No, this is," he started again, trying to express without success that they weren't for his consumption at any point before the words staggered to a halt in favour of gaping at Lee in open confusion. A few seconds passed while he tried to decide what to even tackle first now that there seemed to be a break in Lee's conversation but ultimately there wasn't much of an option:
"It's not young love," he said, hopefully with enough emphasis that it would be clear. "These are for Hinata only, not for us to share." Helpfully, and hopefully, he added as explanation: "I don't like sweets."
no subject
Translation: Lee did not see.
"You mean to demonstrate your thoughtfulness and merits as a romantic interest by bringing the object of your affections an offering of food entirely for her! How noble...! It's nothing short of genius!" Lee complimented, positively swelling with pride just to bear witness to such a beautiful moment in Sasuke's blossoming adolescence.
"Why, I can't say even I would be unmoved by such a gesture, and I've rarely entertained the idea of you as as a challenger for my heart! You are well on the right path!"
no subject
"I'm not trying to ... what?" He replayed some of the words in his head, tried to make sense of them, and decided it was giving him a headache. "I'm not trying to woo Hinata; I'm just bringing her a gift because I wasn't here for her birthday."
A beat, and then with as much enunciation as he could muster, he clarified: "Because I'm her friend and teammate. Not because of romance. There is no romance between Hinata and me."
no subject
"Friendship in of itself is just as noble and worthy of a cause as romance!" he went on to observe, pounding his fist into his opposite palm for emphasis. "It is wonderful to see someone on the cusp of youth and all its vigor to still value and treasure something as pure and wholesome as good friendship!"
Pausing then, Lee frowned just slightly, lifting one majestic brow curiously at Sasuke before folding his arms over his spandex-clad chest.
"...but, ah. Sasuke-kun-- Are you quite certain a small sum of cinnamon rolls is enough to make up for a missed birthday?"
no subject
Wait, what?
"What?" He stared, and then with an effort to sound something other than indignant at the implication: "This isn't the only thing I got her."
no subject
"Oh?" he asked upon Sasuke's defense, a friendly smile upon his face as he curiously looked Sasuke over. "How amazingly prepared! Perhaps I should take notes and try to learn by your example...!"
Clapping Sasuke hard on the back in a friendly, jovial fashion, Lee then went on to ask:
"So, what else did you get her?"
no subject
"I don't see that that's your business," he said, a note of stress in his voice despite his best efforts. "Isn't there anyone else you can assist? Someone who needs it?"
DON'T MIND ME, JUST SNEAKING THIS IN HERE
Still, there were far better ways to enter a bakery. He was well aware of that... right?
Sighing, Tenten reached across the counter to take the pastries and baked goods she'd just purchased. "I'm fine, Lee. That's... not necessary."
SNEAKING LIKE A NINJA HUH
At any rate, his previous concerns for someone being in need of assistance were forgotten entirely as he scampered up to her, immediately going to help her with her bags.
"Here, please allow me! How are you today? Is everything well?"
I MEAN IT IS WHAT THEY DO
As if the bags weren't any indication of her reasoning. Because what other purpose would a person have to even be in a bakery? She certainly could not think of any. Regardless, she tried her best to wave away any of the young man's efforts to help. Tenten had meant what she said before about his help not being necessary. But then, she really should have known better than to think Rock Lee would ever take 'No' for an answer.
"No, really Lee, you don't have to..." So, rather than be discouraged or insistent when he reached for her bags, the kunoichi simply sighed and resigned to her fate, grabbing what bags were left with a helpless laugh after he was done taking his handful. "I'm doing fine. How are you today?"
gurgles incomprehensibly

NEJI, NEJI ARE YOU OK??? ARE YOU OK NEJI???
YEP FINE JUST. OVEREXCITED here's a rushed tag
It happened every year. He'd come to learn that he just wasn't good at giving gifts. The only heartening thing about giving his cousin a gift was that she'd appreciate most anything. But he was running out of nice, functional and polite gifts to get her. The last two years running had been a fine tea set, then a beautiful comb, and there were only so many of those a person could use in a lifetime.
A small set of dishes? Jewelry? Would she care for or have use for either of those things? Should he get her one of them anyway and offer an apology for not knowing what else to get her? He really was terrible at this. Of the precious people he had, Tenten was probably the only one that received gifts she actually liked- mostly because she was often mollified by any piece of weaponry he found on a mission she might not have in her collection yet, and shinobi were very creative when it came to weapons modification.
And next year he's have to add Temari to the short list of people he hunted down gifts for every year. He'd really have to learn more about her personal interests before that happened.
But first, there was Hinata's birthday to contend with, and Neji's deep contemplation was interrupted by the sudden arrival of his teammate. He turned, expression barely shifting in the transition from contemplative to puzzled- both were frowns that only differed in the tightness of his brows. But as he took in his teammate, he shrugged and turned back to the stand of finely crafted wares. He was getting desperate, and the merchant impatient.
"I suppose I could use a second opinion. What do you think Hinata-sama might appreciate for her birthday?"
THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL RUSHED???
Shock which quickly transformed into awe and delight.
"Oh, I see...!! You are shopping for your esteemed cousin's birthday! I would be more than glad to offer my assistance!" he exclaimed all at once, rushing up to join Neji properly as he, too, perused the wares. He admittedly knew little of Hinata himself, only that she was a sweet girl with a sunny disposition he admired now and then from afar. Still, though he did not know the gift's intended recipient well, he did think of himself as knowing a thing or two about gift-giving. He had learned from the best, after all!
"Well, an effective present should be something the recipient wants, but also clearly have come from uniquely you!" he explained as he stroked his chin, intensely surveying the items laid out before them.
"That is to say, when she looks at it, ideally it will invoke thoughts of her beloved cousin, Neji, and bring an immediate smile to her face! That is why Gai-sensei and myself like to give gifts of our very own spandex suits...!" he elaborated, giving a sage nod at his excellent illustration of his point. "They are practical, comfortable, and bring us strongly to mind! So...!"
Grinning broadly, Lee reached out to pluck up a fine, fluffy stuffed owl toy, one with a strong, discerning brow line fairly reminiscent of a certain serious-faced Hyuuga in their midst.
"Aha! But wait--!!"
Seeming to ponder some missing detail with the object at hand, Lee glanced between it and Neji several times before reaching out and physically absconding with Neji's forehead protector, affixing it to the stuffed owl's head instead.
"There! Now it's perfect! It's a striking resemblance, don't you think?"
