Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Shishito Nanako | OC | Kirigakure

[personal profile] pursuitoftruth 2014-12-22 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Nanako loved her job. It wasn't something many shinobi or kunoichi could say with full honesty, and even fewer of the upper-ranks could, but that was the plain truth of the matter. Taking up the mantle of Department Head—and for Torture and Interrogation, of all options—was something she had never once regretted, even if that meant that she essentially lived in her office, deep in the bowels of her village. Not to say that it was a chore; it was a very nice office, with one whole wall dedicated as a tank for her jellyfish summons. She had also twisted the budget over the years to spring for an underground artificial greenhouse, but there were still times when she missed the sun, the sounds, the traces of life aside from her staff and the assets they worked with. She loved them all like her very own children—mostly—but every so often she need a breath of literally fresh air.

And her vacation days piled up.

Her superiors didn't like that, because a stir-crazy Head of T&I wasn't something anybody wanted to chance, and that left her here. She was a few islands south of Kirigakure proper and enjoying a nice, brief vacation at a moderately popular tourist spot during the off-season. Given just how much she knew about... well, everything, she had guards with her, but by and large she was free to roam as she pleased. She had also taken the chance to summon up her newest contract, whom she had gotten off of a recently-deceased prisoner. He was a grand fellow—a kraken, some of her more superstitious children had claimed—but the poor dear was still regrowing a tentacle that had been lopped off at some point.

Nanako was perched on the ledge of a suitable cliff in her new two-piece bathing suit—a little more risqué than her normal wardrobe, but it was what the hotel had to offer and she had the right figure for it, even as she edged closer and closer to thirty—peering down at the giant sea creature. A little ways behind her was her bag, filled with towels, mystery novels, and an armory's worth of sealed weaponry.

Wanderlust, and other things, usually kept Jiraiya on the move, but every once in a while home called to him and he couldn't help but go home.

Mostly it was quiet visits, in and out, with only brief stops to do a little research (Konoha still produced plenty of beauties, heheh), and visit his friends and family. But today he was feeling like something a little different! He'd been a little bored lately, with Naruto having returned home, and what a way to get a little excitement. Maybe meet some fans.

Besides, if he didn't practice his poses from time to time, he'd get rusty. So Jiraiya strolled up to the gate, drew himself up to his full height, cleared his throat, and posed.

"Dry your eyes, for the great Toad Sage has returned to you! Mount Myoboku's Great Jiraiya, with peerless pen, and astounding shinobi arts, has heard your cries for--"

The shinobi at the gate just held out a hand. "Papers, please."

Jiraiya stamped his geta on the ground and crossed his arms. Rude!

Old guy with wild hair coming through. She witnessed the scene with eyes-hardblinking at what one of them was witnessing. The other was just being a copy-cat. Still, the scene was kind of hard not to watch as she happened to be in the area, and -- peerless pen? Astounding Shinobi Arts? The name Jiraiya was kind of familiar, even though she couldn't put her finger on why at the moment.

Still, what kind of moron bragged about being a great Shinobi? Seriously?

Well, it wasn't any of her business. She stopped staring after a bit and tried to walk away, even if her curiosity wanted her to pursue the subject more.

The return of the kraken was not what Sasuke had been looking for when Obito's head of HR had set down a vacation request down in front of him with a harried look and demanded that he take the days he had accrued before they rolled over into an apparently-unacceptable amount. Kiri hadn't been his first choice, but it had occurred to him after reviewing the lowest-cost options that it wouldn't hurt to be close to the village: tourist trap or not, there was still a chance that he might pick up an interesting trail here or there.

It was distantly possible that he wasn't very good at grasping the concept of a vacation, but that, he decided firmly, was because the ghosts of missions past apparently liked to return. He'd been taking a stroll along the beach, patently unhappy with the limited number of weapons that could be stored in swim trunks and a towel, when he'd spotted the first tentacle.

There was no way to be sure if -- but then the stub of the regrowing one lifted clear of the water and his eyes widened.

Someone was standing close enough to the thing that it could easily reach up to grab her if it wanted, which was what ultimately spurred Sasuke to action rather than dragging a hand down his face and calling it a day. It was a short jog to the base of the cliff, Sasuke staying just clear of the water as he waved his arms and yelled at the creature in a general bid to see if it could be distracted from its target.

Nanako tilted her head to one side, curiously peering over at the young man making a spectacle of himself down on the shoreline. If it weren't for the fact that she had matters entirely under control, she might be touched by the gesture. As it was, she smiled gently in his direction and shook her head slightly. "Such a good boy," she remarked to herself. The kraken was somewhat enamored with her, as best she could tell, and had one tentacle—possibly its best—extended up towards her.

She pushed off the ledge and flipped expertly through the air, touching down on the offered appendage only long enough to spring back up, over to the next limb raising out of the deep.

And the next, and the next, until she hit the surface of the sea. She strolled over the waves with unmatched poise, as though she bounced over the tentacles of massive sea monsters every day. She stopped just short of her would-be rescuer and smiled gently. "I'm sorry," she pressed a hand to her collarbone. "I seem to have given you a little scare."

Juugo | Naruto | unaffiliated

[personal profile] notbalanced 2014-12-25 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
The cave he'd been hiding in had been ruined when it had come out last time. Juugo had stared at the caved in rubble that had been left behind for a long time, only a little relieved that the rage had been taken out on stone and wood, and not any of his friends. They had gotten the other birds and animals far away in time.

But he couldn't rebuild it, so he had to move and find another spot. With the guidance of his friends, he'd started walking and looking for a new safe place. Maybe this one would last longer.

If it hadn't been for the close call with an unexpected busy road not long ago, Juugo would have felt almost content. The trees hummed with sleepy life, and it was warm for the season. There were plenty of birds and animals awake, and while a few friends had come with him, the new birds were curious and friendly too. It was nice, but there were people so close. Too close. When it got control again, he'd kill and--

Juugo shook as fear gripped him, barely able to stop breaking into a run. They wouldn't die, because he wouldn't be here. Juugo would find another place to go looking in.

But he'd been walking for longer than he could really remember and he was hungry and tired. He needed to stop and eat before too long, and the stream he could hear in the distance felt like it might have fish. He could fish, eat, and be gone before sunset. With that thought easing the tight clench of fear, Juugo started towards the stream.
thelittleprincess: (Wha—?!)

[personal profile] thelittleprincess 2014-12-25 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
That stream had plenty of fish, and as an added bonus a small genin and approximately half a dozen summoned bunnies. Shisui had been extremely hesitant to let Ami out of his sight outside of Konoha, given their track record on that front, but he had needed to test her survival skills and had been called away to reinforce a mission a few towns over that had escalated.

He certainly wasn't bringing Ami there, so she had been buried in summons and told to take every precaution.

Sensei can never know, was her initial, knee-jerk reaction when she heard somebody approaching and looked up at what had to be one of the tallest men she had ever seen in her life. Including Sephiroth. Except, no, there was no way her teacher wouldn't find out, given the six different eye-witness accounts he would have, so it fell to Ami to salve the situation. Crouched as she was—in the middle of trying to start a fire, a few fish already caught and prepped—the forehead protector she used as a belt was mostly hidden.

The man looked moderately well fed, but also like he had been living in the woods for months, if not years, so she kept her voice quiet and slow.

"Hello...?" Not the best reaction, but she had a kana up her sleeve and several wooden skewers at her feet if he tried anything.

"Jiraiya-sama, the sooner you complete the formalities, the sooner you can find a more appreciative audience." Iruka had an armload of goods for the guards, half paperwork, half lunch, and flashed the man a smile.

"That makes sense, doesn't it?"

The day was dry, but that was on purpose. At least, at this edge of the country. He'd been testing out using less in the way of his paths, to try and conserve and bolster himself, but it simply hadn't been working as well as he hoped.

So he'd been easing off the rain as well, which meant he was taking this border at a leisurely amble, in his own body with a hat low over his brow, and trying not to waste energy getting a sunburn, and wasn't that a bizarre concept, that he'd have to find energy to heal from. He was, however, surprised to see the boy, who he'd seen before, twice now in fact, through the eyes of different Paths, had ventured near his borders again.

And this time, just over, which let him have an excuse to approach. He looked tired and worn still, true, but he'd been improving, and feared nothing from the youth who currently had his curiosity.

"Hello."

Juugo froze, looking almost like a frightened deer. He hadn't been paying close enough attention-- Oh no. What if it came out now?

No, no no. She was so small. He couldn't--

His breaths came in quick, uneven pulls and Juugo stumbled back a few steps. It was a bird landing on his shoulder that snapped him into enough focus to respond to the words. His voice was almost hoarse when he spoke, like he didn't use it often, at least not for anything but screaming.

"Sorry. I wasn't-- ... rabbits."

They were very nice looking rabbits, sleek and happy, and obviously very comfortable with the girl. He was intruding on top of the danger, even if his stomach rumbled a little at the fish. Juugo recovered from the sight and took another step back.

"... I need to go."

Border patrol in winter was normally fairly boring, as although there was an assortment of local wildlife most of the flowers had ended up gone. Still, finding the odd hardy blossom was always a pleasure, and it was more common near the river. Adela adjusted the scarf around her neck as she approached the flower, gently brushing its petals before she heard footsteps. There shouldn't have been another shinobi coming around this place for quite some time, so the noise had her immediately on edge.

Adela didn't take long to approach, silent and precise with her steps in the leaved trees as she observed. A tall man, alone... No, not quite. With small birds. Were those summons? She couldn't tell.

Still, for the moment she just watched, not wanting to startle him or even alert the other that there might be something wrong. It was hard to be so silent, the only sound the slight inhale and exhale of breath in the cool air. It seemed like he was just fishing, but otherwise wasn't doing anything... Soon she'd ask for his identity, but maybe it wouldn't be needed. Maybe he was just a traveller passing through.

No. She couldn't afford to be complacent. She cleared her throat, calling for his attention as she landed on the ground, a hidden kunai ready in case he attacked, "Excuse me, sir?"

It had been a while since Sasuke had had the time to go wandering through some of further stretches of forest around Konoha, busy as he'd been. This particular weekend had turned up like an unexpected and inexplicable gift: totally empty of clan engagements, missions, or leads to follow. He'd taken the span of perhaps five minutes to feel guilt about not taking the time to spend with his family before he'd packed a tackle kit and the minimum complement of weapons and taken off for the weekend, goshawks in tow.

The stream he'd sought was a distant tributary of the Nakano River that ended up in Konoha. It was one of those locations that was quiet and felt uninhabited despite its proximity to the road, tucked away behind uncomfortable brambles and a strange overhang of rock that made it look more desolate than it was.

That same overhang meant that fish tended to gather in its shadow in the late afternoon, enjoying the cooler water, so Sasuke was perched just out of sight on a convenient flat rock, line dangling in the water and goshawks behaving themselves in order not to alarm any of the regular forest creatures around. It was so rare that he was interrupted, and by anyone with enough chakra to be a threat, that he almost didn't lift his head when the sound of footsteps came from upstream, assuming that whoever it was would find the road and leave.

They neared rather than departed, however. He glanced up at the same time as a tall stranger emerged, not much older than him by the looks of it. No village marker, and dressed like a civilian, but there was enough chakra present that there was no way to write it off to a fluke.

Sasuke stayed where he was, both hands still on his fishing rod, but his gaze locked on the stranger's with an assessing look.

She was small, and tended to be entirely too still, like the calm before a storm, or a cat. The latter was actually a fairly good metaphor her in any situation, but especially now as she studied him, head cocked and eyes faintly narrowed in concentration. That wasn't a good reaction, really; disjointed, and stumbling. He seemed... scared. Of Ami.

She liked that, when it came from her old bullies and classmates. Not so much, it turned out, when it came from big, bear-like men with lost eyes and too-croaky voices.

"You need water," she said after a brief moment of consideration. Her voice was firm, and the gaze she pinned him with had a hardness that starkly contrasted her soft tone and small stature. "And..." She hesitated, very briefly. "I have wire traps around here, so you need me to tell you where to go, too." He was lucky to have avoided them so far, though that was in part due to her not getting to that direction, just yet.

"But you should have water first," she insisted. "You don't want to stumble around, dehydrated and delirious, in the woods." though that wasn't to say he wasn't in that condition already. There was something about him that reminded her of the strays behind her family's shop, and her voice went even gentler. "Water, and then you can go, Kuma-san." Her ears burned in embarrassment when the name slipped out, but it fit. He did look like a bear.

The creature seemed like it was thoroughly uninterested in him this time around, which made Sasuke wonder yet again just how much brain was there behind the enormous mantle. Sakura had been able to put it to sleep with a genjutsu, but would it remember people by sight whom it had only seen through choppy waters in the middle of a thunderstorm?

Hopefully not. He was just contemplating whether he should draw a weapon and try to reflect light into its eye when the woman soared through the sky and --

Okay, he thought to himself, staring blankly. Apparently there was no threat, and also the kraken had friends. A friend?

Belatedly, Sasuke considered whether he'd been working too much lately, if all his instincts were this high-strung for danger. It took a second for him to realise he was staring -- at a woman in a bikini -- and he startled into a flush, lowering the arm he'd been waving and trying, and failing, to figure out something to do with it that wasn't awkward.

"It's alright," he managed after a moment, trying to figure out how best to express I've met that thing before but it was trying to eat me. "I've, uh -- I've run into that ... octopus before."

As soon as Juugo realized the presence approaching was not an animal, he tried to change course, to find a different way to the stream. But the presence was heading right for him and he was usually better at avoiding people, so why... Oh. It must be another ninja like Orochimaru had been. He didn't know if he could outrun a ninja. When Orochimaru had wanted to know more about it, and made him... made him fight, Juugo had seen how fast and strong ninja could be. But he didn't want to fight, or hurt--

Before he could make a decision the man was close. Too close. He looked thin and small, and worn. It had broken ninja before.

Juugo went completely still, hardly even breathing. He didn't say anything in response. He wanted to run, but he couldn't be chased. That might make it come out. The only thing that moved about him was the small bird perched boldly on his shoulder.

Sasuke might have, perhaps, been more awed by Jiraiya if he hadn't had Tsunade as a master first. As it was, the clan-trained respect for his elders was most of what stood between him and raising an eyebrow at the white-haired man posing in front of the gate. He managed to retain an expression of polite disinterest, hand still extended.

"Papers," he repeated. "Even if we recognize you, Jiraiya-sama, the procedures are in place for a reason."

Not that Tsunade seemed to put much stock in doing anything other than wandering flagrantly in and out of the village as she pleased, but Sasuke was reasonably certain that she at least generally expected to be recognized without a song-and-dance routine to announce herself. (It was difficult to imagine Tsunade together with song-and-dance in the same sentence, really, though song alone was not completely unheard of after enough sake.)

Cute.

"Squid hybrid, actually," Nanako corrected, still smiling. "And I suppose it's too much to hope that it was in a good context." She sighed and shook her head, one hand cradling her cheek. "I'm afraid the previous contract holder for that fellow over there was a terribly ill-tempered child. He's been dealt with, since, so I hope you won't bear any grudges towards my new partner."

She leaned forward, widening her eyes artfully. "Still, it was very brave of you to try and help me before. Thank you very, very much for the thought."

It stood to reason that the kraken wasn't as simple as 'giant octopus' (another mark against that poorly-constructed instructions manual on the boat, Sasuke decided sourly). That it was now under the control of the woman in front of him meant that she was a shinobi herself, obvious as that had already been with the smooth efficiency of her movements just now: even the best civilian combatants couldn't use chakra with that judicious touch.

The look on her face was enough to make him want to lean back ever so slightly, but the awareness of another ninja -- obviously enough not a Konoha-nin -- meant Sasuke felt obliged to stand his ground where otherwise he might have made an excuse and fled.

"Yeah -- don't mention it," he said, while a voice in his head that sounded alarmingly like his mother scolded him for rudeness. "You, uh -- you say the previous contract holder was dealt with? Who was it?"

He examined him thoughtfully in his silence, and the swirl of chakra that indicated fear? Radiant to his senses. He stepped closer, noting how tall the youth was.

Then again, if he'd pulled chakra like that instead of being malnourished as a child he might have been a tree too. "You don't have to be afraid."

"A naughty child. Nobody you'll ever have the chance to meet again," Nanako waved him off, frowning faintly at the memory. "Really, you aren't missing much; he was a stubborn, troublesome one. If you're looking for vengeance, please feel content with the knowledge that that child suffered exactly the degree of misfortune he dealt out."

Some said waterboarding was a cultural stereotype that Kiri interrogators should move past. Nanako liked to think of it as a classic, and saved it for special occasions.

"I wasn't aware there were any other shinobi on the island," she mentioned, switching tracks. "I would have warned you about a large-scale summons ahead of time, if I had." More to the point, she was surprised her guards hadn't combed him out and had a 'talk' with him. they got protective, when she was out and about and partially naked. Such good children, honestly.

He'd just settled down with a sharpened stick to start fishing when he felt someone come closer. Juugo went tense, causing the birds to twitter.

No, this was bad. He couldn't-- But the birds carried her description to him even if he wasn't looking. He knew what the shiny hard head-markings were. This was a ninja. He couldn't run; she'd chase him. Maybe if he kept his head down and didn't look her way she would decide he wasn't her business and leave.

Juugo did just that, but was unusually still, even when a fish swam through the water within easy reach of his stick.

But she came even closer, venturing to the ground. A choked, dismayed sound escaped him when she landed. This was really bad. He had to make her want to leave. His voice was a little hoarse when he finally spoke up.

"It's not safe. Go."

"I'll be fine, really. I just want to talk," She held her hands then, showing them as open and unarmed while she approached. She didn't get within arm's reach though, staying several feet away so that she wouldn't scare him. It was kind of strange, like approaching a frightened animal -- that was the impression she was getting, anyway.

There were young shinobi in the world, Sasuke was aware of that, and ones with summons as dramatic as this as well. Especially in this region, that wasn't out of the realm of possibility. But there was something about the way that this stranger was talking about a naughty child that made goosebumps raise along the backs of Sasuke's arms: something proprietary about it that brought into question whether there was an actual child being spoken of here.

The degree of misfortune made him want to stiffen and narrow his eyes, but it also made him very much not want to give any kind of reaction away beyond that of a slightly out-of-the-ordinary tourist. There was something to be said for replaying Obito's words, here, about impressions: Sasuke deliberately kept his stance casual, for all that he knew he'd already given away his profession.

"I'm here on vacation," he said instead, and resisted the urge to ask exactly what had been done to the kraken's previous contractee. "It was recommended to me. And you ... ?"

"We're in the same boat, so to speak," She laughed, leisurely tracking the minute signs of discomfort that popped up. Oh, certainly he tried to hide it but Nanako had years and years of experience on him. It was really far too cute. "My vacation days piled up and Mizukage-sama booted me out of my office for a little while." There, maybe tossing out an allegiance and a hint at her rank would smooth down those hackles of his.

Or maybe they would raise higher. Either would be amusing to watch.

"You can call me 'Nanako', if you like." She doubted he would tell her his surname, for all that his bone structure screamed 'Uchiha' to high heavens, so she might as well give him an out. "There's only one real hotel on this island, so we'll likely be seeing more of each other over the next few days."

Mizukage. His nostrils flared a minute amount, mouth carefully kept relaxed. Perhaps it was only to be expected, this close to the mist-shrouded islands that kept Kirigakure one of the more hidden of the hidden villages, but there was still something discomfiting about being caught out in swim trunks with what seemed to be a high-ranking Kiri-nin. Not that this apparent Nanako was wearing more than he was, precisely, but the point still stood.

"Sasuke," he offered in return, for what little worth not giving his family name would be. There was no avoiding how Uchiha his face was (and more by the year, it seemed), but no point giving everything away for free, either. Village affiliation at least, though: "I was pushed out of Konoha for a similar reason.

"Are you familiar with this island?"
