Test Drive Post!
Sunshineverse | ||||
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Ronin | epic | independant clan; probably Fire Country (or Woods or Forests)
So Ronin perched his bird, and took a few hops to the ground. He didn't want to be big again, even though he was old enough to still remember a time when big had been the normal size, but needs must, even if it made him feel so clumsy and slow. It was so much harder to get and keep people's attention when he was small, which, truthfully was usually one of the best benefits. The hand seals were hesitant at first, then picked up and then--
It was disorienting, making him feel like he was being spun in a tornado, and Ronin remained kneeling for a moment, shaking his head.
To an onlooker, it would appear like a flickering image of a man, suddenly growing (and not all at a pace with himself) and distorting and finally settling into something solid. The very solid, and very real, chakra and all, man, was dressed in green--leaves, it looked like--and carried a very sharp sword. And an instant later, a hummingbird fluttered down and set himself on the man's shoulder.
Ronin smiled sadly at his friend's forlorn chirp. "This won't take long; then I'll be back to normal."
But he had a mission, so Ronin marched up to the first ninja he could identify. "I'm Ronin of the Youjin Clan. I've come on a peaceful mission and it's vital that I speak to your leader as soon as possible."

"My leader as in the Hokage?" Hana asked, mentally questioning his clothing choices. Leaves were excellent camouflage in a forest, true, but giant leaves, huge patches of green, did not make sense for camouflage purposes. Most likely a purely aesthetic choice. Her gaze flicked to the hummingbird. She'd never seen one still before. Their wings were always moving. She leaned in a tiny bit closer, gaze still fixed primarily on the tiny bird. Fortunately, that also let her keep watch on his torso for any sign of movement or attack. It was nice when curiosity lined up with caution and responsibility. And she had three other pairs of eyes on him anyway. "You'd have to come back to Konohagakure for that, and pass through security at the gate."
Hidden villages were not really hidden the way they were said to be. Hana didn't think it was any harm if she showed him its location. "It's this way," she said, nodding in the correct direction. "I was on my way home."

"That would be Senju Tobirama? Or possibly a successor of his; it's been a while since I've visited Konoha."
Ronin let the sternness slip into just a hint of a grin at the response, and held himself very still, almost too still, for the inspection. It was only natural to be suspicious.
"And I figured that would be the way it went, but I didn't think they'd appreciate us just flying through. Better to start out with an escort."

Trying and failing to bring the conversation back to more neutral territory after her slip, Hana took another look at Ronin's hummingbird. The saddle was telling, but Hana was wracking her brain for other explanations than the most obvious. The big man in front of her couldn't possibly ride the tiny bird, not without some very interesting techniques. Then he mentioned flying. "If this isn't too rude a question, whose size changes, yours or... I'm sorry, I didn't catch your ninken's name. I'm Hana, and these are the Haimaru brothers, Mikai, Haru, and Baishi." She wasn't on a sensitive mission, so her identity wasn't top secret. She wasn't exactly low profile within the village either.
"I won't claim you have approval to enter the village, but I can walk you as far as the gate."

The next question made him cough and rub at the back of his neck. Even if this woman didn't know the reason behind the name, it was still a little embarrassing. "His name is Tamabachi. And I'm the one who changes size. It feels strange to be big again, to tell the truth."
Tamabachi chirped at his name, but stayed at his perch, inquisitive eyes taking in everything as Ronin walked forward purposefully. "That will be enough, and this should hopefully cover the rest."
He pulled out a letter, a very old letter from the date at the top, that had been signed and then sealed with the Hokage's seal.
The signature was Hashirama's.

Nodding a greeting to the bird, Hana smiled as her dogs whuffed hellos of their own. They'd spent so much time around injured animals of all species that they were friendly with every sort of creature. "It's not a jutsu I've ever heard of before. You live most of your life at Tamabachi's size, then." The world must look very different at that size. At least it would smell the same, Hana supposed. Smell was her most important sense anyway.
Hana raised her eyebrows at the letter, leaning over to examine it without taking the aged paper from him. She kept a little distance, though she knew it wouldn't help much if he decided to attack. Her dogs were still on alert around her, but she was a chuunin, talking to someone who had known the first hokage. He'd been alive and able to train since long before Hana had been so much as a thought. "That will either expedite the process considerably or confuse it, since the gate guards may be as surprised as I am."

Ronin was grinning as he said that, relaxing now that he was on his way to seeing the leader. The statement wasn't as encouraging, but then again, he couldn't blame them. Most other clans didn't live nearly as long as they did, and they had to live every moment.
"I hope it's the former; there isn't time to waste. But I can't blame them for the latter, if it happens. Would you be willing to tell me who the current Hokage is? I'd better prepare a little bit."
He'd almost been hoping to talk to Tobirama, but if the man had retired, he wasn't going to bother him. The current Hokage was better able to provide the help they needed.

"The current Hokage is Uchiha Obito," she told Ronin. "The third and fourth were Sarutobi Hiruzen and Namikaze Minato." Common knowledge was sharable, after all.
no subject
"The Uchiha... Is this one related to Madara?" Ronin remembered the man, and had never been sure he'd like the rest of the family at all. But it was too soon to judge, and maybe living in peace had changed the family for the better. "And I remember Hiruzen, from my last visit. He was a good kid."
The last name didn't ring any bells, not really, but it had been a long time. This Minato must be younger.
no subject
Hana tilted her head in consideration, because that was not a piece of village history to which she'd paid especial attention. "I would assume that most Uchiha are related to Madara, but it's been several generations. There's no direct connection, and the Hokage is well-liked within the village." Certainly Hana liked him better than she did many of his clansmen. Shisui, she was friendly with. And Itachi, the other clan heir her age in the village, was an amicable enough acquaintance. Many Uchiha considered the Inuzuka too loud, brash, and informal, though, and the Inuzuka tended to return any disdain with negativity of their own.
The idea of someone knowing the Sandaime as a child but seeming this young continued to be something Hana had trouble wrapping her head around. "Hiruzen is an old man now. Still strong, but his age shows."
no subject
And he saw her confusion. "It must be strange to you to hear. It's just as strange to us when we forget that time weighs so much more heavily on big people."
While he could explain that it was a fortunate side-effect of their jutsu and chakra, Ronin decided not to. She was a nice woman, but some things were better left unsaid.

"I'm only in my early twenties. A lot of what you could ask about is just... history lessons rather than anything I've experienced firsthand."

Thoughts of young Nod intrude, as they often do, but that sometimes wonderful and sometimes exasperating boy is safe in Moonhaven right now. After his last lesson in the consequences of running off, he certainly wouldn’t set off on his own to follow Ronin, would he?
Who is Ronin kidding? Of course Nod would. But he isn’t here yet, so Ronin has other things to worry about. Like the guards at the gate. He pauses, letting Hana take the lead in the introductions. Maybe it will go smoother that way.

Sighing, Hana looked toward the gates. Coming back from a mission with a strange and mysterious foreign nin in tow, led straight to their village gates. This would mean paperwork. Ah well, nothing to be done about it now. Nodding a greeting, her mouth twisted slightly as she informed the gate guards, "This is Ronin of the Youjin clan, not from any of the currently mapped hidden villages. He wants an audience with the Hokage, says it's urgent. He has a letter from the first Hokage." And they should probably send either a messenger or Hana for instructions, because the situation was unique enough that anything more than introducing him at the gates was well above Hana's pay grade. She still hadn't been promoted to jounin.

But then they were at the gates and Ronin took the chance to straighten his clothes and gave a brief bow. He presented the letter, hoping this would be quick.
"Some of the older ones may have heard of Moonhaven. Our leader has an important message and request for Konoha's aid."
