Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

The Sound. There was something-- Suddenly Juugo remembered. Nagato had talked about it, as the place that Orochimaru now called home. Orochimaru, who had failed to keep it under control. Juugo didn't regret leaving, because he wouldn't have met Nagato then, but there was no reason to be wary of someone that came from the same place. Orochimaru wouldn't still be looking for him, would he? Orochimaru had gotten what he'd wanted, copies that were under his control, so he didn't need Juugo, anymore, did he?

Juugo shook off the momentary concern and fear that had been creeping into his expression and spent a moment breathing deeply to find the calm that was so important to keeping it at bay. It was almost a nervous tick to reach up and touch his earrings--the chakra receivers that let him stay in contact with Nagato no matter where he went--to reassure himself that they were there, even if he could feel the flow of chakra through them all the time.

This stranger was offering something to him, so he tried on a smile, looking hesitant about it, and nodded. "I don't like coffee."

Chai was... tea, wasn't it? Juugo hadn't tried it personally, but he liked the teas he had tried, so he probably would like this one.

"I will try the chai."

The medic watched the expressions cross Juugo's face, trying to gauge the boy's reactions. He clearly recognized the name of the Sound...now what had he told the Ame of Orochimaru? Surely nothing good, given the man's tendency to waste subjects. What Kabuto could have done, had he been in contact with Juugo at that time...bah. The past was gone, and now the boy had found something better, a master who had taken the time to train him rather than keep him in a cage. It would be interesting to see what others Nagato drew to him with that kindness. The Juugo before him was nothing like the scared boy in the files, even with the nervious touches to the talasman that must help him regulate his powers in some way.

Of course Kabuto would never voice his frustrations with his master, even with a perfect example of what they lost before him. That frustration would never make it to his face, never be allowed to even ripple the calming chakra pool Kabuto had worked so hard to create in himself.

"Don't like coffee? Then we have something in common. You won't regret the Chai."

Kabuto raised a hand and whistled across the crowd, summoning a server with a call that was at once light and polite. He was obviously a familiar face here, as the server gave him a smile which he returned just as warmly.

"Chai for the Chuunin, please. But don't spice it too heavily." He didn't say we don't want anyone getting upset, but the server seemed to have served enough ninja to know when to bow to any odd requests.

Kabuto turned back to Juugo.

"So you're from the Ame. Its been a long time since I've visited there."

"Some like it, but it's too bitter for me." This was good, right? Smalltalk. Juugo was still getting used to the idea. The people of Ame had grown used to his quiet and didn't engage him very much. Not that Juugo minded, because there was something peaceful in silence.

And that statement. Was it a question he should answer? Maybe he should say something about it anyway. Juugo sat quietly, thinking about it for a moment and then decided he should. He was out here to get to know more people, and practice being in crowds, and interacting with clients, after all.

"I've lived in Ame for almost three years now. It's very safe there." More than that, Juugo was safe there; it was hard for him to hurt anyone, even if it came out. But he shouldn't tell that to a stranger when he was trying to make smalltalk.

"I think half the Sound runs on the stuff. Its nice to talk to someone with more refined tastes." Kabuto sips his own Chai, steam heating his glasses for a moment. To be honest, the doctor didn't care for small talk. It was a waste of time, to his mind, but he did know quite a bit about the importance of light conversation easing stress in a patient. Though there was quite the difference in speaking to someone under the knife in calming tones, and talking to a ninja from another village.

Though, giving the boy's rumored tendencies, perhaps it was not as different as it seemed.

"The last time I visited was in the middle of the war. Safety was the last thing we could have imagined. Your Hokage has done amazing things, pulling peace from such a mess. It must be interesting working with him?" He phrased the last as a question, trying to pull a few more words from the boy.

"Wars are not safe." Juugo agreed quietly, thinking on the amount of people who had died even at his own hands. Wars were so much worse.

"Nagato-sama is a good leader. He thinks about everyone in Ame." Juugo touched the earrings again, smiling now. Nagato was good for Ame, good for him, and Juugo was so glad he'd agreed to follow the man, even as afraid and confused as he had been. He would be a good ninja, and protect Nagato and Ame both, because that didn't even begin to repay Nagato for what he'd done for Juugo.

((ooc: Assuming you meant to put "village leader" where Hokage is and rolling with it like that. Otherwise Juugo would feel compelled to correct that hahaha))

"No. They are a waste, as is this pointless bickering between villages." Kabuto said, swirling his cup to warm his hands. "But it is hard to make them listen, is it not? There is too much anger and fear still left over from the last few centuries."

He paused, knowing that the alternative exemplified by the Sound was not seen as much better by most outsiders. But, well, heroes needed someone to fight, didn't they? When there were no more terrifying monsters you were left with a lot of broken people and someone had to pick up the pieces. And not everyone had families to take them in afterwards. If Juugo found peace at the Ame, then good for him. Others didn't have that option.

"You are lucky to have such a compassionate leader. And to have found a place that fits you so well." And Kabuto couldn't help but smile. Yes, the Sound had lost a valuble piece, but the boy was happy, and the Sound-nin was not heartless, no matter what the Leaf might think.

>(Bah, yes. Getting used to all the changes in this AU is taking me far too long. My appologies.]

Juugo thought that Kabuto was right about that, so he nodded. Fear was a hard thing to defeat; Juugo knew that personally. He still struggled with old fear, but Nagato was helping him with that, and the rest of Ame too.

"I am."

The thought made him smile, because that was also true. Of course, it wasn't all luck. Part of it was the fact that Nagato watched over all of the country with his rain. The rain was a connection to Nagato, and for a moment, Juugo missed the feel of the rain, refreshing and cool. But, it wasn't bad here and he could return to Ame soon.

The chai arrived then, and Juugo took a careful sip of the hot drink. It was aromatic, and had the taste of different spices, along with tea. He tipped his head for a moment, eyes closed, and then took another sip.

"You're right; it's good."

"Isn't it?" Kabuto sipped his own chai, the dregs packing the most flavor and bringing a sting to his tongue. "This is the best cafe in the whole city - I can promise you you won't find anything equal for another three days of travel."

Which was, in fact, about how far Kabuto had traveled to come here. Whenever Sound business brought him this direction he always routed through the village, just for a good cup of tea and pleasant conversation. Of course, this was the first time the conversation had included quite such an interesting conversation partner.

"It is very nice."

Juugo was content to sit in silence and sip the chai slowly. The cafe was nice, and the people seemed very nice too. A glance outside told him that his friends, old and new, were contented. They had also attracted a few stares--osprey and songbirds didn't often perch next to each other.
