Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

He wasn't in the practice of hanging around once it was obvious he wasn't wanted, given his own reactions and those of a certain tailed lodger to even the slightest slip in his patience, but Gaara was nothing if not determined. He shoved down his own burst of irritation at Kankuro's expression, and shifted sand across his skin until he looked even blanker then before.

"You'll pass this time."

It would have been better, in retrospect, to emote. Rather than an encouragement, it ended up sounding like a threat.

Kankuro wasn't easy to insult, but he couldn't help the twitch of his expression at a comment like that coming from Gaara.

What if he didn't pass? Was Gaara threatening repercussions, was he implying his father would perform them? Was he insinuating the entire village would look down on him if he spent another five months a chuunin? Gaara had never once lorded his higher rank over Kankuro, but that didn't mean the older brother hadn't felt it.

"I know." He swallowed the bile in the back of his throat, and ignored the awful taste the words left on his tongue. Civility was a hard pill to swallow.

She was just planning to update her father on how the negotiations with one of the smaller villages were progressing. What Temari hadn't counted on was the traffic jam caused by her brothers staring at each other. And if she were to judge, Kankuro didn't have the first clue what to do right then. Looked a little bit like he was feeling threatened if she was reading her younger sibling right.

Clearly, they needed big sister to jump in.

"So, what are you two up to?"

"We were talking about the Kiri exams, and Kankuro's next--." Gaara had clearly taken it upon himself to state the obvious in absence of them having anything in common to talk about, but the repetition meant that he was hit with a realisation.

"Kankuro. Who else is on that mission?"

The idea of him being placed with someone else was suddenly, inexplicably irritating. Maybe he had enough time to find whoever it was and arrange an accident.

He immediately recognised Temari's voice, and a small exhale escaped him. Relief ebbed from his frame; if Temari was stepping in, Kankuro would be able to sideline the conversation and make a reasonably painless escape. Anything to put a stop to this palpable awkwardness.

Unfortunately, Gaara answered for him.

When the question was posed to him, he automatically unfolded the missive crumpled in his hand and was half way to answering, before he paused, and squinted.

"...Why do you ask?"

She takes one look between them and the expression she turns on her youngest brother just screams that it isn't really any of their business. Whoever went with their brother was considered more than qualified, being possessive wasn't going to change anything. And that was the only way she could read Gaara's interest.

"That isn't any of our business. Kazekage-sama deemed his teammates as suitable that should be enough." And how it burned for her to utter those words. Asking Gaara to put his faith in their father after the way he'd treated them. "Besides Kankuro would have voiced concerns if he wasn't comfortable, right?"
ninjasloveme: (talking; bitches better listen)

[personal profile] ninjasloveme 2015-02-05 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Gaara's mask had slipped in his preoccupation with Kankuro's unfortunate new teammates, so his reaction to the mention of their father was open, immediate, and damning. Her second reason was far more acceptable, and he paused to consider it instead of lashing out. The stopper on his gourd stopped its quiet rattling.

"That man has no idea of what's best for us." For me, he almost said, but that was the younger, petulant Gaara talking. "Whatever. Don't let them slow you down."

Kankuro's eyebrows twitched, and he subtly took a step back, excluding himself from a conversation he was already alienated from. The hatred their siblings felt for their father was a touchy subject between them considering Kankuro had the unpopular opinion in this case, so he firmly stayed out of it. It was good for keeping the peace, but not necessarily effective in helping him to understand their reasoning.

"I chose my team mates," Kankuro announced, a hard look at Gaara and at their sister before he fixed his gaze off to one side, his hands finding refuge in his pockets. It was an attempt at a casual pose to offset the forcibly controlled tonation of his voice. "I was being tested. I was asked to hone in my leadership skills and form a unit of my own. So the idea was mine."

As quickly as her brother took that step back, Temari was looping an arm over his shoulders in an attempt to draw him back into their little make shift circle. Which was hard considering he was taller than her by a decent number.

Just because their father was a point of contention in some conversations. And Gaara was the one most likely to react violently, Temari for all her issues tried to maintain a level of neutrality most of the time if she could. She was working a little more closely with him than either after all.

"So who did you pick, and what is your mission?" She asks motioning for Gaara to come closer so they could give input on this team up. Not that it would make a difference really, but where was the fun in being siblings if you couldn't give unwanted opinions from time to time.

Somewhat mollified by knowing that Kankuro had had to choose, and even more so by the inclusion, Gaara stepped in to join them when prompted. He looked a little baffled by the necessity of it, sure, but Temari was usually right in those kinds of situations.

Kankuro's mouth pressed taut, his thin lips in danger of disappearing had it not been for the broad stroke of purple across his mouth. Why were they suddenly so interested? It wasn't as if the mission would determine his status as a chuunin - that's what the exam was for - and if that were the case he would have been chuunin years ago. He couldn't help but feel a little put down in situations like these, made out to be the junior. With Temari it was understandable since she was older than him and liked to remind him of such, but he was two years older than Gaara and rarely felt it.

His scowl darkened, and he folded the paper into his hand.

"Classified." He grunted.

Temari huffs and tugs. Her other hand coming up to yank his hood off his head so she can give him a noogie. She wasn't trying to alienate him, so there was no need to get cranky at them. It wasn't their fault that they'd passed the exams quicker than he had.

"Don't be a baby. Gaara knows the genin you do, he'd be perfect to consult with. And you'd have been happy to help right, Gaara?"
ninjasloveme: (casual; oh yeah by the way)

[personal profile] ninjasloveme 2015-02-06 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Probably not, but now that Temari had said it, he could see the value in helping. The faster Kankuro was promoted, the better... and he was well aware that his presence had been one of the factors that had influenced the proctors in the past exams.

Nevertheless.

"You should rely on us," he agreed, serious despite addressing a guy in the middle of a headlock.

Immediately Kankuro went into defensive mode, his hands groping for his hood uselessly while Temari held him fast at the throat.

"Temari!" he scolded, making a spitting noise not dissimilar to an angry cat as he flailed, his touch barely brushing the fabric before a thread of chakra shot out of his fingers, wrapped around the material and pulled it out of her grip. Once he had it in his fist he stopped struggling as much, and held out the missive paper for Gaara to take.

"A sensor and a shinobi with strong taijutsu skills..." he grumbled, admitting to his defeat.

[personal profile] abluntwind 2015-02-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"What?" She knows exactly what of course which is why she's laughing as she finishes assaulting her poor brother's head with her fist and let's him straighten. Not even remotely bothered that he stole his hood back.

Teal eyes watching her youngest brother as the sheet of paper is held out to him. She's already weighing what his choices mean for the mission he's been given.

"So?" She prompts leaning forward toward her youngest brother.
ninjasloveme: (just; run already ok)

[personal profile] ninjasloveme 2015-02-06 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
Having taken the missive with face grave, Gaara took a second before he thought to tilt the paper in her direction so they could both read it. They were good choices, but something about it made Gaara think they weren't the first Kankuro would have chosen. That sensor-type had no experience with the puppet corps - he'd overheard another chuunin complaining about it on their way in.

What were the names of those other... Ah.

"Nejiri and Ittetsu are out on assignment?"
highly_strung: (grumbly grumble)

[personal profile] highly_strung 2015-02-06 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Kankuro's eye twitched at the mention of their names. They had been his first picks, but some not-so-gently veiled steering had pushed him in the direction of a second choice... then a third, and finally to these two. Kankuro hadn't been happy about it at the time, and he was even less so now.

"Probably."
abluntwind: (pic#8651141)

[personal profile] abluntwind 2015-02-06 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've never heard of these two." She mutters tapping the paper.

Which probably says a great deal about the genin he chose. Nejiri and Ittetsu she at least had heard of. She would have chosen them herself if in Kankuro's position. Still the mission itself doesn't seem outside the norm for a C-rank. Though it seemed a bit much to have Kankuro be limited by a pair of inexperienced genin.

"Are they new?" She looks between the two for an answer it's been a while since she was a genin after all. She isn't quite as up on the who's who of baby genin anymore. Not unless they've done something worth noting since graduating.
ninjasloveme: (casual; oh yeah by the way)

[personal profile] ninjasloveme 2015-02-09 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"They graduated last year," Gaara hazarded, and held the missive out for Kankuro to retrieve. They would benefit from the mission more than he would, but they weren't so dire that it would fail. Still, it sounded like the Kazekage was deliberately saddling Kankuro with weak shinobi, using him, and that annoyed him no end. Still.

"They'll do."
highly_strung: (sulk)

[personal profile] highly_strung 2015-02-10 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Kankuro took the paper with a painstakingly controlled hand (controlled so he didn't snatch and set the conversation hovering a little more dubiously between awkward and dangerous) and folded it again, before tucking it in the bandages of the form at his back.

"Good to know.." he grunted.

Gaara's approval, though it annoyed him with it's needlessness, relieved him. It was good to know his brother wasn't going to make a fuss about it that would eventually get back to his father. Kankuro just needed to work through these last few months with as little issue as possible, and finally pass as chuunin.

[personal profile] abluntwind 2015-02-15 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Temari nodded. That made sense for them to be recent graduates in that case. That was somewhat better than being entirely terrible. At least new genin could be taught.

"You'll be fine. Just remember to take some time to prepare for the exams, okay?"
