CANON:

CURRENT STATUS:

Kankuro has been up to practically nothing recently-- though as of late, Rasa has been trying to build up Kankuro's people skills (because the boy is intelligent as all hell, but is kind of secluded in his village) so daddy is sending him on various outings/missions/whatever to various villages/places/holes in the ground both to make himself known as Rasa's son, but to also encourage trust and understanding in him as a figure, since there's a possibility that one day he might eventually be wearing the big stupid hat.
As for his emotional situation, Kankuro has grown up a lot in recent years due to his mentors beating him over the head for being a brat. Chiyo doesn't want to see another Sasori, Baki doesn't want to see another Rasa, etc etc. Kankuro is still kind of grumpy, but his village bias is a little less vibrant and he's a lot more approachable now, actually taking an active interest in being useful to the alliance and... being a brother to his siblings instead of being "that guy who sits in his puppet cave and has no friends".

CURRENT/FUTURE PLANS:

As aforementioned, Kankuro is currently being groomed for Kazekage, but the possibility of that coming to fruition is years away at this point, so currently I'm just looking for him to gather a friend-base, stop being so antisocial, and get a little more involved in village matters. I also want him to eventually stop shadowing his dad and carve his own path, but that's more internalised for him via the positive influences friends-that-arent-puppets will bring him.

but yes, lee could definitely force kankuro to friend. maybe by smacking him about a bit. kankuro is so long distance it hurts, so lee's close range fighting style would be an interesting challenge!

\o/ Yaaaay~ And Lee would also find it interesting to go up against his puppets! Elle and I decided that Gaara did beat the shit out of Lee in their history in sunshine and Gaara is counted among Lee's friends now so Kankuro can go off that knowledge if that will affect his attitude towards Lee in any way.

... well, Lee would like more dates but he isn't pushy about that stuff.

that was back when kankuro was shit scared of gaara's mere existence, so THAT WILL BE FUN.
(to be honest, i think the most interesting part of that will also be kankuro making a confused face at how they could possibly be friends after gaara ruined lee's everything, so he might learn some valuable lessons about ~friendship~ that way.)

kankuro actually has a period where he's kissing friends with hinata, and oddly enough out of the three characters i play, he's the most likely to be up for a no strings attached (NO PUN INTENDED) few dates/smooches/etc.......... i'm just sayin

YES god i want kankuro and gai to meet. gaara thinks lee is great, and probably gai by default, and i can't see kankuro finding gai anything but super duper amusing. he'll want to listen to gai be UPBEAT about everything and just marvel at how he exists.

kankuro might be kind of insulting because he's rude by default, but... gai can probably handle that, right?

Excellent. Not sure of how they'll end up meeting. Maybe when Kisame gets the envoy to Konoha position, he gets more than he wanted and sent to other villages as well, because Yagura is being a dick.

As far as Juugo, nebulous plans are currently a thing where Juugo and Gaara will meet on the borders of Wind and Rain so, big brother crashing the party?

Would Sasuke have met Kankuro in his history with Gaara as Mystery-Solving Teens? Or we can assign Sasuke to him as his Konoha escort on a visit or something, I feel like they would misunderstand each other in gr9 ways.

i know this is a thing that happens but i cant rightly remember how or why because i typically chalked it up to "crazy kids"

so if it ever ventured into suna, then MAYBE? kankuro has spent most of his life being pretty anti social...........
but yes, the escort is also a viable option!
