Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Utakata | Naruto | Formerly Kiri - missing nin

[personal profile] vagabondvessel 2015-03-24 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Life as a missing nin was more unpredictable than living under the thumb of a village, for better and for worse. There was really no arguing that it was both depending on the time and definition of the term. In most ways, Utakata felt it was better. He cared for himself and only for himself, and in return he received more protection than he would as a village pawn.

Days could be boring...but he liked to think of those days as 'relaxing' instead. Such as today: he had no one actively chasing him, and he had the funds to feed himself when he needed to. The rest of the day he could easily spend napping. Often he would sleep somewhere stationary because it was simply safer, but today he slept in a slowly drifting bubble, maximizing his time by traveling toward the village he planned to purchase goods from while also resting.

Sure, someone might see him floating in the bubble above the road...but how many people would do anything about a strange robed man floating away in a bubble? They'd probably walk quickly by and convince themselves they weren't seeing strange things.

And if some nosy person decided to wake him up instead...that would be almost entirely their problem, wouldn't it?

Seeing someone in a bubble was new for Naoto, and she followed along with her eyes for a few minutes, thinking about trajectory and speed.

Hmm, wasn't there a village in that direction? She didn't want to openly challenge the man in the bubble, but she did want to know more. What if he was a threat? It was important to at least get some information on the man, if she could, and it wouldn't delay her to take a detour to the village and see if her calculations were right.

So Naoto did just that, and perched in a tall tree outside the village, to watch in the correct direction and see if the man in the bubble came her way. She would learn something, at least, and that was pleasing.

He wasn't really a fan of being watched, followed, or intercepted. Usually such activity ended in a battle of some sort, and he'd so much rather float through life without any such trouble. He'd had far more than enough battle when he was a pawn of the Land of Water. If he'd been awake, he would have been much displeased by someone deciding to do any of those.

As it was, he had no reason to stir from his sleep simply because other people were nearby as long as nothing hostile approached his bubble. Thus, his bubble continued to drift along exactly toward the village as it had been before.

As it approached the village, it gradually descended and veered off of the path, only bursting once it reached as near as the outlying trees around the village. The disturbance of his chakra was enough to wake him, and he dropped to his feet with a groggy, and mildly annoyed, expression on his face.

"...Here already?" He rubbed at the back of his head as he muttered to himself, and sighed. He'd hoped to nap a bit longer before arriving.

When the bubble appeared on the assumed trajectory, Naoto felt a burst of pleasure for adequately predicting its travel, and moved closer to watch, though careful to approach from the direction of the main trail to the village in question. It would provide an excuse if suspicion was the reaction.

Naoto expected that it would be, but she was incredibly curious about that jutsu, and the fact that it ended automatically, and if what she’d overheard led her to the correct assumption, had somehow been programmed to follow a certain path to an expected destination, and not just drifted, which Naoto might have expected from a jutsu like that.

As her target was shinobi, and she had no other evidence to go on for his apparent strength and skills, Naoto could only assume he was already aware of her approach, and so didn’t attempt stealth.

“Excuse me. I saw a bubble descending from the sky near here…”

Hmm, that would do. It wasn’t too forceful, and it wasn’t accusing. If he had reason to hide the bubble’s origin, she wouldn’t be prompting violent response, though she hoped he didn’t.

He did indeed sense her approach, but that was a given since she made no attempt at stealth. He showed no indication that he knew--she didn't give off any hostility, after all--until she actually addressed him, though. It was less trouble to just ignore people until they engaged him.

He tilted his head slightly, and reached up to scratch his cheek, looking every bit bored and confused at his question. "...You saw a bubble? It's probably popped by now if it's gone through here." He gestured vaguely through the trees. "They're not very durable."

But then, if she asked him that, there was no way that all she really saw was a bubble. No one asked after bubbles. She was probably a bounty hunter.

What a bother.

"Possibly, but I suspect it was some kind of Water Release, given the size, and learning more about different elemental specialties is an interest of mine. I've never seen bubbles that size before before."

That particular answer was not encouraging about satisfying her curiosity, however, so Naoto resigned herself to letting it drop. Whatever his reasons for not answering honestly, Naoto didn't wish to find out the hard way. She was confident in her skills, but barely a chuunin, and this shinobi was much older and had a technique at his disposal that she knew nothing about.

"But if you haven't seen it, I suppose I've lost it." However, perhaps signaling her willingness to not pursue answers would incline him to open up. Naoto had seen stranger things.
