Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

"And it will allow me a chance to can plan strategy to use against those who do not advance this time."

She wasn't happy when there wasn't a way to send her to this exam, but she will find a way to participate in the next one, even if she has to give lessons to less experienced genin so that they can form a team. It's also disappointing that Karin didn't make it to the finals; Naoto was sure she would. She's sure both of them will make advancement if they can only get a chance to participate next exam, so for now, she prepares.

And though this admits she's still officially a genin, Naoto isn't concerned. Her skills are well matched to chuunin level, and if this Kiri-nin thinks to challenge her, he'll find out the hard way. Not that she's really expecting it, but she stands up straighter anyway.

"You're competing in the next one?" Most of the people who made it to the finals of Naoki's last chuunin exam had been competing for the first time. He had been disappointed that he missed the opportunity to face some of them, but made up for it with sparring match.

"That's a good strategy." Naoki knew Uzushio was still small. They probably had trouble getting genin together for the villages that required teams for their exams. He much preferred the way Kirigakure handled it.

"That is the plan, yes. Whether or not it comes to fruition..." Naoto lets the sentence hangs. There are quite a few things that could cause an issue with her competing in the next exam. She will do her best to nullify as many as she can, but it is impossible to plan for everything.

The comment on her strategy has her pleased. She does pride herself on her intelligence and puzzle solving skills, so Naoto allows herself a small smile.

"Regardless, I will not allow a mere formality to hold me back except where absolutely necessary." She gets mostly D-missions still, and understands the reasons why, but recently one or two C-missions have come her way, and the better she equates herself with them, the brighter the future will be. The more trust the missions desk puts in her skills, the less still being a genin on paper will matter.

"Well, good luck. They're hard, but they can be fun, too," Naoki says. They're dangerous, but not much different in danger levels from the missions he has taken as a chuunin. He enjoyed the challenge of it, and having the chance to face off against shinobi of other villages without the danger of a failed mission.

"There wouldn't be much point in them if there wasn't sufficient difficulty. But thank you."

Noato tells herself that she needs to be patient, but patient is hard. She was so close to being ready when she moved to Uzushio, lacking more in proper experience, really, and now she knows she is. It's a little frustrating, really.

But Naoto pushes all of that aside. She will be patient. In time she will prove to Uzushio that accepting her was a good move, and to Iwa that in spite of her deficiencies with Earth, she was an excellent ninja, even then.

Not things she's exactly comfortable sharing with a stranger though, and Naoto is willing to admit her difficulties in casual conversation. She's not sure whether to let the conversation drop or move it on to another topic. Well, it will depend on him, she supposes.

"No, there wouldn't be." He wasn't sure what else to say on that subject, but there was another obvious subject. "You prefer shorter blades?"

Most of Naoki's jounin mentors were much taller and wielded much larger weapons. They served them well by enhancing their greater reach. Even with a weapon as proportionally as large he would be at a disadvantage, but with the shorter blade he could fight one or two handed, and get inside the guard of larger fighters.

The question brings a not-so-well-hidden sparkle into her eyes. Naoto enjoys talking about tactics and skills, and how to make the best use of abilities.

"What increase of reach a longer blade would bring me is made negligible by my own unfortunate stature." Naoto says that crisply, in spite of the fact that she tries to straighten her spine more and lifts her chin in defiance. "And besides that fact, my affinity is Wind."

She doesn't elaborate, but if this ninja knows what can be done with Wind chakra and a blade, he'll know exactly how she compensates for the shorter reach of a smaller blade in an efficient way. Wind chakra cuts so beautifully, perhaps not as well as Lightning, but well enough for her purpose.

"I wouldn't say being short is unfortunate, Naoto-san. There are plenty of tactics and combat styles that favor one who is generally smaller than their opponents," Naoki says, though he's sure she knows that already. "I'm usually the smaller fighter myself, and a wind affinity is very helpful."

Being able to use his own sword two-handed meant it was on the longer end of one-handed blades, but being able to add that extra leverage and strength was very helpful in a fight against larger opponents with larger weapons.

"The advantage is countered by the annoyances in most cases." She despises how people's expressions change when they see how small she is, how female (how weak, a part of her always hisses), and while she can certainly overcome, she wants people to see her, not the tiny girl they think they're seeing. "I will agree that I can use the underestimation in a fight, and Wind is always very helpful."

She smiles, thinking of how the Wind chakra extending her blade makes her so much deadlier than others expect.

Naoki can't help but grin a little. "If you get good enough, there wont be any annoyances to deal with." In Kiri, being short isn't great, but strength and skill are more important than that. No one would dare underestimate or annoy one of the seven swordsmen no matter their height.
thewheelturns: (I will explain it all.)

"I will withhold judgment for the time being." Naoto has her doubts of that ever happening completely but she knows if she does get strong enough, their dismissal will hold less weight. It's the only thing she can think of to stop it from happening, at least.
