Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. Naoto watches closely as he moves, taking in the skill there. She's now certain he must be a shinobi, but she doesn't see a sign of a village from where she's standing. So she approaches to a polite distance as he addresses her, maybe a little self-consciously adjusting her hitai-ate, and making sure the knots and folds that keep it covering her hair are neat.

"Whether or not you have trespassed depends on your purpose in coming here." Her phrasing is boyish, though the pitch marks her as a girl, and because this man is so much older, she doesn't try to sound rough and tough, but instead speaks politely.

"We in Whirlpools have worked hard to rebuild what was lost."

"So it is true, then." His words are soft, barely over a whisper. For the barest flicker of a moment, he is overcome, but the emotion passes faster than the blink of an eye, leaving a calm exterior in its place, masking the mingled feelings of joy and heartache. His old mentors had lectured him about it, but there was always something solid about seeing things with ones own eyes that made the truths one knows so much more vibrantly clear.

His voice pitches back to its usual volume, polite. "I was simply passing through to meditate, as you have seen. I hadn't realized I'd wandered so close to a village." There is a part of him that says Uzushiogakure should be a good few miles southeast still, but he quashes it ruthlessly, and then, finally, let's it go. A relic of an old age, with little place in the new one he finds himself living in.

He should leave it at that, but something in him—some old loyalty, to a bygone world of a bygone age, perhaps—won't let him just walk away. So instead he says, "It is a noble thing you are all doing: rebuilding from the ashes and starting anew."

Naoto picks up the words and suddenly she's far more curious than defensive. If he had come here wondering if something was true, that something likely being the rebuilding of Uzushio, could he be one of the older generation that knew old Uzushio? All Naoto has of it is vague memories of her parents' stories, before a difficult mission in Iwa got them both killed. She's much too young to have even been born there, and sometimes she regrets her youth.

"I understand. The rebuilding has changed the locations of many things in Whirlpools in one way or another. May I assume that you've visited this country frequently in the past?"

In response to the second statement Naoto looks away, not sure how to answer. One one hand, it is a noble thing, but would acknowledging that seem arrogant? She wishes to be seen as tough and strong, of course, but not arrogant.

"Oh, not in a great many years." And that is true. After Uzushio's fall he had come back only once, to sit and watch over the ruins and process his grief for all those he had lost. "But I suppose the place does hold some old memories." Obi-Wan pauses, and adds on in humor,"Though, once you have reached my venerable old age—" of only fifty-two, but that can be rather old survival-wise in shinobi terms "–you can say that for just about any place. One of those benefits, along with wisdom and good looks and the like."

His voice changes towards teasing. Laughter and joy is so much easier to handle than grief, and he is not about to show the latter to a strange young girl, even if she is from his old home made anew. It is better than the welling emotion that would not allow him to leave.

"You are doing well then, I suspect. Though there are so many different changes in this world, perhaps I am simply too surprised by them all."

Naoto actually laughs a little at the comments. She's reminded a little bit of her grandfather, and his constant attempts to get her to be less serious. "I must admit, I have an interest in history. It will be quite some time before I qualify for venerable myself."

Not that she doubts reaching it, really, unless there's a mission that goes exceptionally badly, and Naoto doesn't dwell much on the possibility of an early death. It would only be a distraction and end up undermining her.

"Something is always changing," Naoto continues, agreeably, "and adapting to change is what makes us stronger."
