Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

"Then you should be even more devoted to meditation than I am." The underlying amusement and good humor that Kenobi has held in this conversation so far is starting to wane. "You cannot hope to teach Juugo how to successfully maintain a balance between his three energies if you are unable to master the turmoil in your own two energies." It's not quite a sharp tone, but Kenobi has certainly switched from 'old man' mode to something a little closer to the 'Negotiator' of his jounin days.

"Maintaining the proper balance is difficult, and your young man is lacking the very important groundwork that he should have had as a very young child. You wouldn't have known to teach him." He wants to say 'you are barely more than a child yourself', but he bites those words back. "His parents should have, but either did not, or could not. For all of this, he is doing remarkably well, and it is clear that he has a good heart. But the Je'daii bloodline is dangerous and inherently largely unstable. If he does not learn what he needs to he is a danger to himself much less others." Kenobi relaxes back into a more meditative state again, but a different one. Not the empty, flowing mediation before, but something that brings him closer to a focus.

"I am Je'daii. I have devoted my life to further learning and mastery. I have taught students of my own. I am willing to help you. For his sake, if nothing else." Kenobi leans back, slightly, but the way he meets Nagato's gaze—it doesn't seem as though he's really moved back at all. "But he is your young man. That aid is for you to request. I don't force my students to learn what they are not willing to do." You need help. You both need help.. I am offering. But you have to ask for it.

"If it will help Juugo be less afraid, I would welcome what you have to teach him." He lifted his chin, sharp and cold and perhaps the nearby rain grew heavier as he pulled some of his chakra from it should he need to use it.

"But do not speak as though measures have not been taken to ease him from a dangerous position. I made him promises and I will keep them."

Oh, youth. Only hearing what they think they want or expect to hear, and none of what is in between. That Kenobi has a habit of talking circles likely does not help. Kenobi does not deny that the man in front of him seems to be doing Juugo much good. Indeed, he even said that he is doing very well. But he doesn't need this young man to like him. At least not right now. Instead, he just needs him to listen.

"Then sit, and breathe with me. In, and out." He changes what he does, making his movements more deliberate, and allowing his manipulation of his unconsciously absorbed natural energy to wane. The cycle of letting it pass in and out through him has long been second nature, and does not require thought, but he makes an effort to put it to a stop deliberately, letting the natural energy slowly accumulate, more the way this young man will expect it to, given his experiences with Juugo. Kenobi knows his limits, knows when to stop, and knows even how to deal with an excess build-up, how to release it vastly and quickly before it can cause him harm. But right now, the young man before him needs to know what this exercise would feel like to Juugo, so that he will later be able to determine the difference.

"Follow how the physical and spiritual energies mix into chakra. Allow them to separate them as you inhale, directing it through your body, recombine them as you exhale, passing them in and out of the body. Release it. Balance each energy, in equal parts, with deliberation. If you sense an area of your energy that is unsettled, pass over it. We can work on untangling such things later." He can feel the build-up of natural energy start to pool in his gut, and it's a slightly unpleasant sensation, but he ignores it for now.

Instead, he focuses on the young man in front of him. Once Nagato is doing as Kenobi is, he wil illustrate how to integrate that natural energy into the cycle. But not before.

He was watching him with more than his eyes, and that was very obvious. Still, if it made the man more agreeable to showing his hand then there was no point in needlessly protesting. Though his eyes narrowed for a moment more, he settled back to blankness that he'd perfected in his Paths, instead going about matching the breathing as he observed.

His mind wouldn't still he was nearly incapable of being completely at rest anymore, but he eased off his touch on the rain further, causing it to redouble, and let his focus slide to match the request. It was no great hardship.

Nagato had lots and lots of skill, it was clear, and that was good. Juugo would need someone with that level of finesse and patience. Not perfect, but some of those things would come with time—familiarity with what Kenobi was trying to show him, and comfort with the man himself.

"You are doing well." A pause, as he starts to move that built-up natural energy.

Following the same path as before, but slowly siphoning it away and out in between the breaths. The pattern changes, alternating: inhale, hold, exhale. With each cycle he draws each separate energy type in, and in the next cycle releases them, slowly but steadily draining out the excess pool of gathered natural energy.

"He will need to drain it first, like so. Learn how to let the natural energy of his surroundings flow through him and out of the body. With enough practice it should become instinctual."

"That's going to be difficult for him." He was examining the process with his senses other than sight, feeling it out to make sure he didn't misunderstand it. "He's never learned how to make it go out aside from burning it."

And no matter what he's tried, Juugo's fear sometimes still makes him panic if it's not directly taken. Still, he held to the pattern, waiting to know what else would be shown, if anything."

"It is a process you have to create, lay the foundation for by doing so slowly, over and over, until the energy is used to flowing in such a pattern." Absorbing it is inherent, natural by birth; being able to release it... that is much harder. "In younger ones, the breathing works as a grounding point, a physical action to tie in with the focused movement. When he practices, he will need to be watched, someone to help as he first starts to put down those pathways."

Kenobi's voice is calm, and once he has dissipated the built-up reserve fully, shifts what he is doing. He begins to draw the natural energy in, mixing it with the already-present energies to form chakra. Senjutsu chakra.

"When he has grown more comfortable in learning how to release what he absorbs, this is the next step." While, in theory, one could suspend a true Sage Mode indefinitely with the natural absorption of chakra to do so is... generally a bad idea, unless one is very very aware of what they are doing.
teachingpeace: (I'm so disappointed.)

"What you're doing now is the basis for his chakra at all times." He knew for certainty that Juugo wouldn't be able to go backward like the man was implying he should with just a breathing exersize. He cared very much for Juugo, and while he took to his own teaching with a degree of ease, this was a different sort entirely.

"Patience, young one." Kenobi only offers Nagato an enigmatic smile as he waits. Careful mixing, breathing, waiting until the senjutsu chakra has built up uncomfortably, the chakra altogether combined with precision to an ideal balance of all his energies. It is almost tempting to slip into a formal Sage mode, but that is not what he is here to show. Instead he looks, sensing the energies of his surroundings. There, a large bush nestled into the fissure of a boulder. There, a small copse of trees: one, two, three—hardy conifers. There, a larger deciduous forest sentinel, old and broad with it's strong base, likely twice his own age or more.

Each one he marks, lightly, and slowly draws in a long breath. He hold the air just half a moment before releasing it out in one great exhale. Years of training and years after of research and study of the arts and philosophies of ninshû, and the burden-weight of that chakra drains from him, transferred out onto the living surroundings as though they had been other people. The verdure retains the chakra for a moment more on its own before it simply naturally disperses out int component energies and then consumed and wasted away, as though it had never been present in the first place—used up by the general life surrounding him.

"It's more of an emergency technique, of course," he says, almost conversationally. "When simply burning through the chakra in a more natural fashion is not viable, or if there is not the time to separate the energies and simply release the excess natural." He finally comes out of the meditative stance, leaning forward over his folded knees as though relaxing. "They are easier for me. I have been doing them since— oh, before you were born, most likely. Learning them, especially as old as your young man is, will likely be slow. But they will help, and allow him a measure of control over it for his own self."

It was very strange to be called young.

"And you believe you can teach him these skills?" He was alert, sensing the exact moment when he lost track of the chakra of natural energy, something he'd always had a less solid hold on in his senses because it was a different sort of feeling. Still, the man felt... sincere, and not as though he was scheming.

It was something.

"And then? When you feel you've taught him enough?"
