Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Gale is watching. Even distracted by his hunger, he looks, analyzes, forms and discards a dozen different plans. He sees this stranger watching him back, and he knows she's recognized his hunger, if not for exactly what it is, then something in her own experience that is similar. And yet she does not falter, comes forward so ... kindly that it sets his nerves on edge.

He doesn't bare them like he wants to, completely motionless but for the movement of his eyes as they track every little motion from the expansion of ribs during breathing, to blinking. Either this woman, this stranger, is lying to try to gain advantage, or she sees the hunger and it makes her want to-- to what? Mother comes to mind. Smother follows shortly after. He's not sure which is more appropriate and doesn't dare ask Argilla. Now is not the time to reveal their difficulty with new words and unfamiliar concepts any more than they already have.

And also, Jinana was kind. Argilla is kind. Gale doesn't get quite the same... nuance from this woman as he does from both of them, and it bothers him.

Finally after those moments of perfect stillness, Gale finally speaks, tone as flat and mechanical as he can manage. It is natural for strangers to be suspicious of each other so he plays with his suspicions.

"Your false kindness will not gain you any foothold here. This is our territory, and we know betrayal very well." If it is not false, her reaction will tell him, and he will continue on from there. This is all bait. A move in a ... a chessmatch between them.

The true problem here is that Gale is tensely playing chess, and Nanako is leisurely playing hopscotch, and her metaphorical rock just skittered right down Memory Lane.

Her kindness doesn't shatter like a mask tossed aside once it served its purpose, mostly because it... wasn't a mask. Nanako is disquietingly sincere at all times, as a side-effect of her hatred of lies. It's part of why she's usually kept away from covert missions. But the kindness does shift—in the opposite manner he might have expected. It melted, deepening from something restrained by cordiality to a type of adoring compassion that was almost... obscene, maybe.

But she couldn't help it. That slightly hostile tone, those mistrusting eyes, the suspicion hanging heavy in the air—

"Just like Secchan..." Her hands came up, cupping her own cheeks gently as she stared at him with dreamy, terribly kind eyes. "I thought you might be, but you're really, really so much like that child was back then, my dears!"

It's not as easy for Argilla to keep her calm, not since they got atma. Where the others seemed to flow easily from one emotion to another, Argilla felt the stronger emotions intensely. Intense enough that she has a more difficult time hiding how the woman's kindness sets her on edge. Unable to hide those tiny little facial cues that scream of discomfort and suspicion.

But it's for that very reason that they had Gale be there too. What she couldn't hide her could, they could make that work in their favor. Even as the words 'my dears' rolls off the woman's tongue like they know each other, Argilla finds that need to move again near irresistible. Something in the way Nanako is looking at her comrade makes her want to step in front of him; shield him from the way she's looking at him. (Which she's certain he'd tell her is ridiculous since he isn't exactly shorter than her and he's already seen and processed her expression anyway.)

Lacking for other appropriate action, she lifts an arm and wraps it around herself. It was defensive but less obviously uncomfortable than if she'd chewed on her thumbnail as she wanted to.

"We aren't children." The statement is edged with a touch of annoyance. They've never been children, there aren't any children in the Junkyard before or after it was decimated. She pauses, takes a breath and holds it a second before letting it out again slowly. "You hardly know us, how can you be sure we're anything like this...Secchan?"

That she doesn't drop the kind behavior is even more disconcerting than the idea of it being a lie. Gale wants to ... to remove it. Either by removing himself from the situation or by removing her. Neither of which is an acceptable option, but the second is the one that Vayu is pushing for, and Gale tenses--

Argilla moves. The motion is defensive, and Gale can tell it's not the more extreme motion she wishes to make. She's restraining herself, and it brings Gale back to the knowledge that the move he needs to make cannot be the aggressive one. So he goes still, as utterly and completely as possible, for a moment or two.

Though his eyes are closed, Gale is very aware of the woman standing across from them. He's tempted to employ one of the genjutsu he's learned since receiving his Atma, but that would also be counted aggressive if it was discovered, and some of their opponents have had strong defenses against such things.

So he merely opens his eyes, calm regained, and continues Argilla's statements to the obvious conclusions. "My comrade is correct. There have never been children in the Ruins, and you do not know us to be able to compare our actions to any other individual. Desist, so that we may commence negotiations appropriately."
