Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Having returned unrepentantly late to Suna earlier that week from a mission too close to Konohagakure for the reason for that lateness not to be bleedingly obvious, Gaara enters Baki's small office with outstanding calm. At least his only black mark to report this month is potential truancy rather than murder.

So far. Depending on whether he's allowed out again.

"Welcome back," he murmurs, taking the seat furthest from the door of the three set before Baki's desk and settling in to wait.

hello my terrible children

Baki was not fond of leaving the village for long periods of time. When he could help it, he preferred to stay close by, or to keep his excursions brief so he could return quickly. But when his village had need for him to depart, he would do as needed. He had been relieved to be back, and even more relieved to see that Suna remained more or less as intact as it had been when he had left it. A call for a meeting with his students was a reasonable idea following his long departure, and it was coming close to the time of year that they submitted assessments anyways.

He had been awaiting them in his small office on one side of the government buildings, hands folded neatly in front of himself. Gaara looks no worse for the wear either, calm and composed, which was usually a good sign.

"Thank you." He nods in turn. "I am glad to be back." Despite the sentiment, he glances at the door behind Gaara, wondering if his siblings were following along after.

Temari isn't surprised when she's summoned. If anything for the moment she's pleased. Normal she didn't avoid doing her work, but the work waiting for her she wasn't entirely enthused about and she could stand to put it off another hour. It wasn't like this particular agreement was a matter of life and death.

She's relaxed when she enters his office and takes the seat next to her youngest brother. So he'd finally returned from his mission, good. She was running out of things to tell the Kazekage when asked about Gaara. Crossing her legs, Temari folds her hands over her knee, the picture of at ease. "How was your mission, sensei?" The welcome back implied in the small smile she lets curve her lips upward for a moment.

"Temari," He greets her in turn. "The mission was very..." His brow furrows for a moment, "Involved." It's the kindest way he can think to phrase his description of it. Tedious was a better word. He had spent most of his time waiting to hear back from his mission givers, chasing after progress from day to day even for information he should have been given to begin with. "I have a copy of the summary here if either of you would care to read it." He sets one of the bundles of papers on his desk aside to demonstrate.

The amount of waiting he had been given had mostly been spent on worrying about Suna, as usual, and given the things that had been running through his head, he is relieved to see that Temari too looks at ease. As the eldest she was typically the most level headed of the siblings, but that didn't mean she wasn't just as capable of getting into trouble. Not today, it seems. "You both seem well."
There is still one of them absent, however.

Gaara shifts as Temari reaches for the papers, and unfolds himself so he can read across her. One of his pet projects is comparing the missions each of the team is assigned, after all, and Baki is their senior member.

"There was some trouble earlier in the month--" he began, before picking up on the focus on the open door and trailing off.

That they all arrive separately is one thing that hasn't changed, barring the odd sullen escorts when one or the other of them was staying away to prove some kind of point. They have such a variety of interests now that these meetings are about the most organised part of their months. That said, the time has come and gone for Kankuro to show, and Gaara belatedly recalls hearing something yelled down the corridor at him from his brother's rooms.

"Kankuro is busy," he says, a little too late to be helpful. "He sends his apologies."

Temari reads the offered report. Silent as she reads over what has to be the most boring mission on the continent after teaching the Kazekage's children for as long as he has. The most amusing part is how she doesn't so much as shift away as her brother perches to read over her shoulder. If seh had to be entirely honest, it shouldn't have come as any surprise given that she'd invaded his personal space plenty in the last few years.

She looks up from the report glancing at Gaara a moment gaze questioning and then shakes her head. These meetings weren't exactly optional, so unless their father had given him a task there was no reason he couldn't leave his workshop to sit down and give Baki a sit rep. She sighs slowly and settles the report in her lap again.

"There were a string of mind transfer mishaps and it wasn't limited to only Suna. Gaara actually ended up one of it's victims though damage was nonexistent despite him not being in control of himself." She explains, "We've kept the Kazekage primarily in the dark about the reason the three of went to Konoha at the time. It's safer." She murmurs her gaze sliding to Gaara as she says it, searching for a sign that he would like this to remain an unknown to their father for as long as possible.

Baki grows more serious at the first mention of trouble, his hands remaining unfolded as he settles back in, his eye narrowing. "I will expect to meet him at a later time, in that case." He begins, but for now he puts the third sibling aside to listen to Temari's explanation.

"...Mind transfer mishap...?" He repeats, almost incredulously. That is a lot to unpack in the space of a single phrase. Mind transfers weren't in his area of experience, but he had heard of them at least, enough to know some potential of what could affect Gaara. Honestly he hadn't actually thought such things were capable of affecting jinchūriki. "Who was in control of Gaara, then? Where was his mind transferred?"
The mention of keeping information from the Kazekage is accepted without Baki so much as batting an eyelash. He has long acknowledged the importance of keeping potentially compromising knowledge away from their father, as long as the safety of the village is not directly at stake. In that regard, he and his students have an understanding.

"One Uzumaki Kushina," she answers smoothly without a hitch though now that she's providing a full debrief she scans her teachers office quickly for any sign that the Kazekage was spying on them. He shouldn't be, he'd assigned all three to Bake for a reason, but one could never be too careful when it came to secrets from the leader of their village.

"Gaara ended up in her body in Konohagakure. Once it became apparent that Gaara was not himself. Kankuro and I took steps to limit her exposure and question her in private and proceeded from there." She pauses takes a breath. Again her teal eyes slide to her brother to check if she'd missed anything yet. When he didn't speak up she continued assuming that she was providing an accurate and full report to their teacher.

"After some discussion we fabricated a story to travel to Konoha and we worked with their seal experts to find a solution though they seemed to have switched back on their own after a few days. We're still without a defense or solution to the problem."
fourredstripes: (gasp)

[personal profile] fourredstripes 2015-04-05 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
His expression slides from shock, concern, then back to the same apprehension. He's impressed at their resourcefulness, considering nothing went more awry. In addition, the Kazekage hasn't seemed to have caught wind of the incident, which Baki considers to be a good thing.

"Are you telling me that at this time we do not know how this occurred? The Yamanaka have not stepped forward?" He'd expect, if anyone, they might have at least an explanation, if not taking responsibility for the event.

"Gaara, have you been feeling any averse effects since the event?" Again, he is not sure how Shukaku would complicate such a state, much less Konoha's tails beast.
