Test Drive Post!

Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

[ He walks with his arms folded behind his head, his direction and destination unclear. To someone watching, he might look as if he's drunk; aimlessly meandering through the busy street without an apparent care in the world, one foot in front of the other, humming intermittent random notes in a rendition of some song he's making up entirely as he goes. Anyone who recognises him would know that it isn't unusual to find Naruto wandering -- basking in fresh air and surrounded by people is his favourite place to be. It would be so easy to get lost to this easy-paced wandering, and perhaps that's his intention. He's pretty sure he doesn't have anywhere to be today... ]

02.
[ A tail of thick noodle disappears into the cavern of his mouth and flicks a splash of broth up onto his face as goes but he pays it no mind and tips the bowl in his hands up to his mouth to down the delicious oily liquid sitting in it. Once done, he sets the bowl back on the table and wipes at his mouth with his sleeve before letting out a satisfied ahhh of contentment. ]

That hit the spot! [ ...Or did it.. He looks at the lumpy frog purse sitting on the counter with a studious squint, and Gama-chan looks back with his gormless stitched expression. ] Hmmm...

[ Without enough ryo in his wallet for another bowl, Naruto will end up paying his bill, thanking the cook, and regretfully bidding goodbye to Mr Ramen Guy to retreat back onto the road with an almost full tummy and a slightly disappointed expression... If only someone were around to save the day... ]

[ Naruto smacks his hand down on the table, claiming the set of matching cards in the pile for his own, and adding them to the two he has left to make a full set. With that, he's won the game. Ever a modest winner, Naruto jumps up from where he's sitting (nearly taking the table and everything on it with him) and crows a loud laugh that everyone within a few miles will probably hear. ]

Yes!! I win! You're gonna have to step up your game if you ever wanna beat Uzumaki Naruto, y'know!! [ He jabs himself in the chest as if his opponent didn't know who he was, and then set his hands on his hips. He's getting pretty good at this Snap! game. He's glad he suggested it.

Are you playing with Naruto, or watching the unfortunate situation unfold? ]

[ He hasn't seen or heard from Naruto since the switch incident and their unexpectedly violent encounter, but Kushina's missives are occasionally appended by scrawls from her son, and if he doesn't feel close to him, they're at least making him a familiar presence in Gaara's life.

So when one of his ANBU minders takes pity on the konoha-nin and appears beside Gaara to whisper that a Leaf shinobi in lurid orange is asking around the village for him, it only takes him a few minutes to shelve his reports and training plans, and another few to appear behind Naruto in a localised whirl of sand that settles only after nudging his clothing back into perfect order. ]

Naruto.

[ He's still sitting at the counter, gracing Gama-chan with a dejected look and a steadily forming pout, when the voice sounds to break him out of his reverie. He spins on the stool with no premonition as to who the voice might belong to -- because he hasn't actually heard it coming from the body it was intended to before -- and his eyes light up when they fall on none other than the man he was here to find. ]

Gaara! [ All notions of ramen forgotten, he stands to greet the suna-nin with a bright grin. ] I've been--!... Wow, you're shorter than I thought. [ Way to go, Naruto. ]

[He'd surrendered his last card three turns ago and watches the proceedings with interest and the smallest quirk of his mouth. The shout is expected and Shino eyes their fellow players as he reaches to reclaim the cards, shuffling the deck with deft movements.]

"Best two out of three?"

[Beginners luck isn't really any true victory after all.]

[It's a voice he hasn't heard in a while, almost a year in fact, though it's a miracle that he hasn't run into the younger shinobi since his return from training and Yamato slows his pace, ducking under the awning of the ramen stand to peer at the brightly coloured teen and his mournfully light wallet.]

"Naruto-kun?"

[He has the sinking feeling that his own wallet will be just as light after this..]

[It had been a long mission to Jiro Island, even for a courier mission. But now she was back home and looking forward to some quality time with her two favorite boys before anything came up to send her or one of them out on another mission. By the time she walked in the front door after her initial report and debriefing, it was still early in the afternoon. It was entirely possible neither of them were home, maybe they had gone out somewhere for lunch.

...Did she remember to send a message ahead of time letting them know she'd be home today? She was pretty sure she had. Maybe she'd double check her scroll after she squared everything away and got some food. But first things first once she shut the door behind her.]

I'm home!

You've been looking for me. I know. [ He looks so much like Kushina-san when he smiles that it's almost unnerving enough for Gaara to take a step back as a precaution against contact. He doesn't, in the end, but he folds his arms as a placeholder gesture for the same reason. Good enough. ]

What do you mean? We're the same height.

Eh? Oh- Well, I thought you'd be taller somehow, y'know... I dunno why, I just imagined you towerin' over me.

[ Maybe it was a foolish assumption to make, and he laughs despite himself. All that talk of murder and pale skin and red hair and blood had him imagining some six foot brute with an angry disposition; a rather threatening thing to imagine, if he was honest, but upon learning that Gaara was the Kazekage's son and was also the same age as him, Naruto had to meet him.. To sate his curiosity if nothing else. Oh, but hold on- He frowns, his eyebrow quirking as he looks at Gaara with an almost conspiratorial expression. ] How did you know I was lookin' for you?

Ah, you're gettin' daring, eh Shino? [ Naruto's tone is one of a powerful dictator; he slips into role perfectly, and firms his hands on his hips as he leans down to grin menacingly at his friend. ]

How about we shift the rules up a little, huh? Instead of best two outta three... How about just you an' me. One on one. Winner buys the other guy ramen for a week.

[ What, Shino likes ramen too, right? It's not a selfish prize at all, shut up. ]

Hey, Tenzou-san! [ He stands to address the man with a puffed up chest and a straight back, waiting for that familiar "You've grown, Naruto!" or "You look so much older, Naruto!" or his favourite "We missed you, Naruto!". It's been a fair while since he got back, and not many people greet him in such a way since he's loud enough to draw all attention to himself as it is... There aren't many people left in the village who haven't seen him since his return. ] Long time no see! How's it goin'?

[ He's confused, but neutrally so. Is he being called intimidating? No, it's probably the opposite - Naruto's saying he doesn't look as scary as he was imagining. For some reason, it pleases him to hear that. After all, Naruto has lived his entire life in the care of another jinchuuriki. He'd know, wouldn't he? But when the subject is changed, he goes with it with a certain amount of relief. He doesn't want to talk too much out in the open. ]

Someone told me. Are you still eating? [ He doesn't look done, so maybe they can talk at the stall... ]

On one of the many trade roads there is a very simple cart that could belong to any sort of merchant moving wares back and forth. It's not until it possibly starts to pass you that you see the very plain wooden sign with the words "Fate's Fortune! Affordable fortunes told here." There is also a small smudge near the bottom of the sign as if some words had been blotted out. For those who have seen this particular cart before in the past may recall the small scribble of "How otterly fortunate for you!" that used to be where that blotch is.

Perhaps you are waiting for this particular wagon to rumble on by at this time, or perhaps you came across it by accident but wave it down because you need something. Maybe even still you've come across this odd sight at a crossroads or in a line at a customs or toll stop and thus strike up a conversation to pass the time.

Traveling sometimes means camping and you've just stumbled upon Kawauso setting up his camp for the night. Or maybe he's been waiting for you to show up. Either way he'll gladly let you take a seat on that log there and make you a plate of whatever he managed to hunt or fish and the travel rations he has on hand.

Seeing people sell wares from their wagons isn't all that unusual in a town. Though seeing someone dressed as an otter and sitting under a sign proclaiming a fortune teller is a bit unusual. His prices though are pretty decent and his current selection are varied enough that even if you don't get a fortune read chances are someone else is and he has no qualms in you watching in curiosity, boredom, or derision.

Public Libraries will always attract this lover of words to it like a moth to a flame. That is, once he is allowed to be in said libraries. Once he is this 4'5 creature happily delves into various scrolls and journals while taking notes of the differences noted from one village to another or even one country from another on a certain subject or point of history.

People watching is a favorite past time when he has the time to just sit and soak in everyone coming and going around him. Sometimes he even does a quick sketch of a scene that somehow catches his eye. Doodles, and quick profile drawings of people. Maybe you caught a sketch of yourself or just like to look at decent art, even if it is just doodles on scraps of paper.

Not all visits are quick and easy and sometimes paperwork is a necessary evil, even when you have travel papers and a missive explaining why you are visiting all these countries. There is also the fact some people just are wary or outsiders especially one who looks so odd compared to others.

Market places! So much to do and see, and possibly a chance to find some new tea blend to send back to Dori as a souvenir with his next still alive and in one piece letter. Maybe there's some new types of ink and pens for him to try out.

For all Nori's jeering, he's about as worried about Ori being in the outside world as Dori. It's not a good time for casual jaunts across the continent when there's a war brewing. Tensions are high between nations, and Nori dreads crossing through them. He's thinking a boat for the next leg, actually. But then they might as well stop in Kirigakure of all places, and he's going to put that off as long as possible.

Naturally, their first stop is in Kumogakure, still in Lightning Country proper. It's probably the most impressive shinobi village in existence, but then, the towering spires carved into the surrounding mountain range is appreciably similar to 'home' enough to be comfortably familiar.

Could do without the sheer drop between buildings sometimes, though.

Nori's hand finds its way to Ori's shoulder and slowly steers him through the village gate.

"Home'a the nation's military an' all that," he says with a wave of his free hand, sharp eyes picking out shadows on the rooftops. "Nice place, all fings considered, I s'pose."

"Still don't know how they can be so out in the open."

It was one thing to wander out when Dori went trading and such and quite another to be out and really understanding that all of these people left themselves out in the open of the elements. It was so very odd compared to the geometric shapes and carved stones he had grown up surrounded by. Here everything seemed to be squares stacked on top of squares until they finally decide to use a different shape.

"Do you think anyone has ever fallen off a walkway?"

Because that is a very large drop.

[It's only takes a moment of consideration before he's nodding once and dealing the cards between them with even flicks of his wrist.]

"The winner buys the other lunch for a week. Agreed?"

[His chin tilts up, indicating to Naruto that he has Shino's full attention and drops the final card before gathering up his share and squaring their edges. Perhaps his friends win streak will hold true? He wasn't about to let the challenge go unanswered.]

Nori shrugged, well accustomed to living outside that it doesn't really phase him anymore.

"Y'get used to it. Learn t' predict the weather an' find cover 'for it gets too bad." Reluctantly, he let Ori's shoulder go, fingers flexing despite knowing his brother's reasonably safe here.

"I'm sure it happens, usually on purpose one way 'r another. Long as you're careful, you'll be alright though." Not the most comforting thing he's ever said, but he tries not to lie too much to his own kin.

"Big building in the center's where all the important people do their work. Kage's at the top a'course. Don't fink we'll manage t' get a word with him, not the nicest a'people. Plenty else t' do though, decent library an' all."

Yeah, that's what I said! [ Naruto scoops up his hand and lays it out on the table, face down. Then he takes it upon himself to take a card from his pile, and places it face up between them.

Seven of hearts.

Your move, Shino. ]

Hey Mm-! H[ e turns from where he stands with his arms delved in the top cupboards, one hand wrapped around a little shaker of fish flakes and a pair of chopsticks in his mouth. He's having lunch at home today apparently, as the steadily warming water and the cup-noodle container poised on the counter might suggest. ]

Y're h'm e'rly? [ Take the damn chopsticks out of your mouth, Naruto. Greet your mother properly. ]

Oh, uh. I just finished... [ That's.... not a no, and he turns back slightly to give Gama-chan an over exaggeratedly dejected look. Gama-chan is happiest when he's at his fullest, but Naruto would empty him down to the last coin if it meant one more bowl. The more he thinks about it, the more he wants it; by this point he's probably not even hungry anymore. ]

[Bless her precious baby fishcake... She unceremoniously dumps her gear onto a chair and doesn't bother hiding a grin as catches her son digging around.

And talking with his mouth full - which earns a raised eyebrow.]

Sooooo... Is there enough water heating for a second cup?

[Because Uzumakis have some damn great priorities.]

Ywah! [ He's grinning through the chopsticks too, isn't he adorable? There's a cup on the counter in an instant - a flash, you could say - and he finally takes the utensils out of his mouth to lay them on the counter instead. ]

How'd it go? You bring me anythin' back? [ He's kidding. Mostly. ]

[About time he showed some manners, but even for a young man, he's still her adorable baby boy. And she reaches up her hands as if she's going to hug him, but quickly shifts to try and surprise him into a headlock for daring to ask such a question soon after she got home.]

It took longer than I thought it would, but what kinda question is that?! I brought myself home in one piece, y'know! Isn't that enough?"

[Though she miiiiiiight have something in her bag...]

[Having just finished a morning on the training fields, Hinata was heading to the park a plastic bag in hand containing the lunch she bought after training. Maybe she'd mix it up and eat by the river. She hadn't quite decided yet when she spotted a familiar head of blond hair ahead of her. Her pace quickening almost automatically to catch up.]

Ah, Naruto-kun. [She smiles as she falls into step with her teammate. She didn't he was back in Konoha. Maybe he was just popping in before going back to work with to toads.]

Did you come home to visit your parents?

[ Naruto should be used to this kind of treatment by now, and maybe he is, but he doesn't dodge the headlock, going down almost too easy and making a show of getting caught. He splutters and chokes, grabbing at his mothers arm dramatically. ]

Aaah! Ggkh- Yeah, it's enough, but if it was so easy you coulda done it an' brought me something, right? [ Being her adorable baby boy can only get you so far, Naruto... You might be pushing it now. ]
