The NPC Meme



I'm sure someone knows their names...

Welcome to the NPC meme! This meme has certain special rules and functions unlike many other memes! In this meme, the NPC journal isn't just encouraged, it's how you play. Or, at least...how someone involved in the thread does.

The premise is simple: You post your character to lure in some characters who aren't currently being played, and someone else brings in the NPC journal with their interpretation of that character. You play a thread! CR gaps filled!

Alternatively, if you have a character you might be interested in playing in the capacity of an NPC (such as a character you don't want to app, and thus put in a test drive, for one reason or another) then post a top level for that NPC.

Currently played characters may tag out only to NPC top level comments, not to each other. NPC characters could tag to anyone. However, since threads in this meme are eligible for AC (and therefore game canon), it's best for NPCs to tag current characters, rather than other NPCs.

Steps/Rules

1: Post a top level with either your character or an NPC you'd like to play for the meme (Using the NPC account!) - If you're looking for someone specific to tag you, be sure to include it in the top level somewhere so people know to bring them.

2: With your characters, tag out to NPC top-levels or wait for an NPC to tag you. With NPCs, tag out to top level 'current' character threads, or respond to characters that tag your NPC of choice.

3: Thread things that can't yet be played out, or might never be able to be played out!

4: When playing an NPC, since you'll be using the NPC account to do it, don't forget to track the thread with one of your own accounts! (If you have a paid, at least. For free accounts, it's still recommended that you track at least the entire post so you don't miss anything!)

(Not much changed for her team in Sunshine really, though Sakura getting so serious made her buckle down earlier herself.)



She didn't know what was going on here, but this was the most chaotic of a mess she'd ever seen in the flower shop, and with the way this place went nuts for spring courtships that was really saying something. She immediately waded into the chaos, even if this was not what she expected on her first day off from missions in what felt like forever.

"Hey! Hey!! What's going on? And you! You stop that right now!"

That was pretty different from usual, yeah. Sakura was aware from personal experience that, large or small, Konoha's many and varied clans could be pretty eccentric. Knowing that, and some of the eccentricities of certain clans she was familiar with...she still had no idea what the six customers in the middle of the shop were actually doing when she walked in, nor why they looked so riled up.

Ino looked annoyed enough that she probably understood, though. Maybe it made sense to someone who'd seen it from the start. She frowned, lingering in the doorway for the moment. "Do you need a hand...?" She was there, after all. If people needed to be thrown out, there was no reason she couldn't be part of throwing them out.

She glanced over when she heard her friend and practically wilted with relief. "Sakura! Get over here and get those two out of here before they break anything else would you? These guys are just making it worse." She scowled and her fingers twitched in an obvious desire to just take over and walk them out, but last time she'd done that she'd gotten a rather long-winded lecture about how Konoha treated their civilians. That didn't stop her from wanting to do this the easy way instead of crawling into the middle of it to shove people away from each other. She must look a fright.

Oh, were they civilians? Looking at them now she could see they didn't wear anything to indicate they were shinobi. Which was a shame, because she could just cast a group genjutsu on them if they were. Ah well, between the two of them they could handle three loud civilians without breaking any rules (or laws).

She sighed softly and made her way across the room, stepping into the middle of the group and...slinging the smallest one over her shoulder. That was one down, now for the other two near to her. While doing that, she spoke in a voice that wasn't so much bored and uninterested as...unruffled. Even if they were six, they weren't exactly a threat, after all, just troublesome. "If you're going to fight, you need to do it outside. You'll upset the daimyo and his wife if you destroy the flowers meant for his banquet tonight."

Perfect! And she could smack herself for not having thought of that solution herself. Sakura's statement about what the flowers were for was a bald-faced lie, of course, but the mix of a girl hauling off a grown man and the mention of the Daimyo gave her enough breathing room to finally shove the idiots apart and take the much-abused bouquet from the current possessor of it. "And just so you know, no one is getting these flowers now for anything that involves looking at them, but one of you is paying for them before you leave!"

Oh jeez... Seemed like the Yamanaka Flower Shop was incredibly busy.

Adela just blinked hard at the commotion, unable to help her embarrassed flushed as she saw how the customers were arguing over who would get what flowers and how much they were willing to pay. It wasn't until things quieted down that Adela dared enter, feeling unusually timid as she simply looked around. She'd seen Yamanaka Ino around before, but... Well, this was different than just seeing each other in passing as colleagues.

She had been grateful to see the last of the customers out, and she was ready to growl at them if any of that hoard had come back... but it wasn't any of the rowdy customers at all, instead being a rather cute little redheaded girl. It only took her a minute to figure it out really. "Milani-san right?" She remembered her from the auction, definitely. Anyone Sasuke threw that much money at was eye catching really. "What brings you to my shop?"

"Ah... Yeah, Yamanaka-san. I just thought..." She felt awkward suddenly, feeling a bit unused to not having to introduce herself within the village. Still, Ino seemed friendly enough, and she took a moment to think before continuing, "Just that... The kitchen at home could use a fresh touch, you know? I'm home a lot more this month, so I thought it'd be nice to have something there for Uncle and I to brighten up the room."

"Oh! I know just the thing. Let's see... yellow violets, yellow and white carnation..." She was flitting from point to point around the store as she spoke, clearly in her element. "Then a bit of lavender and goldenrod and there we go!" She carefully put the purple flowers in the center of the yellow, with the white dotting the outside edges, and then showed it to the younger girl. "Is that what you were hoping for?"

"Oh, they're beautiful," Adela breathed out, a more true smile tugging at her lips as she hesitantly ran her fingers up the stems of one of the flowers. The scent wasn't overpowering either, just nice and -- for lack of better word -- fresh. It sort of cheered her up just to see the arrangement, which made her feel better about getting it for the kitchen.

"How much for the arrangement, Yamanaka-san?"

She peered at the bundle thoughtfully for a moment. "900 Ryo." She nodded once, then flashed her a grin. "I'll even do this~!" She reached out, snagging a pale yellow and blue vase off a shelf and settled the flowers in it. "So they last longer." She then offered them to the girl to take.

Adela didn't take long to pull the required amount out of her wallet, but upon seeing the vase she paused, knowing her skin was going pink when she stalled, "I-I can't, I mean... This is really nice, but I can't just take it, how much for the vase?"

She leaned over, taking the bills from her hand and settling back on her heels to make sure she didn't need to give any back. "Please. Next time, okay?"

This was not what Sasuke had been hoping to encounter when he'd stepped out to buy flowers for his mother's birthday. It looked like almost all-out war in one corner, where he could make out three squabbling people in chuunin vests and a frazzled-looking Yamanaka Ino, and while he'd normally have just gone elsewhere, he was going to be out of town on a mission for the next two weeks, and her favourite flowers were among the ones in the display at risk of flailing arms.

If he was going to miss his mother's birthday, he wasn't going to leave her empty-handed. With a sigh, Sasuke headed over to the scene, plucking the loudest chuunin up by the back of the neck, much as if he were a misbehaving kitten.

"Is there a problem?" He asked, though the question was mostly directed at Ino.

The question drew her gaze around immediately as she got the other misbehaving chunin into a headlock. "Sasuke-kun! Just a bit of a dispute over who was getting the last of one of the flowers that have gone out of season. It'll be the nice calm lady over there." She nodded to the woman in question who picked up the arrangement and edged away from the others to go wait by the register. Ino gave the man in her grip a bit of a shake when he tried to protest. "It's been ages since you've come by though! What can I do for you? Looking for anything specific?"
