Test Drive!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Kisame looked at the mission scroll for the third time in as many minutes. Someone was going to die. Painfully. Hatake Kakashi had just moved to the top of the candidate list.

To foster a closer relationship between Kiri and Konoha, right. It sounded to him like Konoha wanted to be rid of the brat, otherwise why send her to him? In what world would sending a kid to Kiri's Monster seem like a good choice for the kid's welfare?

The scroll said his new... charge was resilient and had a water nature, and had picked up a very impressive sword from somewhere, but there were plenty of better choices for preliminary training. Resilience was one thing, but this kid wasn't a Hoshigaki, and didn't Hatake know their clan lived under the lake?

But Kisame didn't shirk from duty. If this turned out poorly it wouldn't be because he'd failed. He'd pen a strongly worded protest back to Konoha at the first opportunity.

With a sigh, Kisame stepped out through Kiri's gates to meet his new shadow for... however long. This was going to be a stressful mission.

"You the kid I'm supposed to train?" Babysit was probably the more accurate term.

He'd be excused for thinking that the girl waiting by the checkpoint was an academy kid on a fieldtrip, standing only just past three foot and carrying a backpack larger than her own torso. The only discrepancy in the image was the wrapped weapon strapped to her back, the tip's bandaging scraped off from being dragged on the ground... and the deep groove trailing back along the road, from aforementioned swordpoint.

Still, the smile and eager bow he received were right back up there with the first comparison, so the image might be harder to shake.

"I'm Konayuki of the Itezora. Might you be Hoshigaki Kisame-san?"

[ She shakes her head, eager to impress. ] I brought plenty of jerky with me, and the animals here are suuuper easy to catch. [ Meat all day erry day. ]

He had to get, um, documents? Because I come from the mountain. [ MORE IMPORTANTLY. ] What might your name be?
noboatbigenough: (You're cute. ...Still gonna kill you.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2015-02-23 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that sight got an eyebrow. "Resilient" huh? Well, that raised his estimation of the kid surviving the training, physically at least. Leaving that kind of gouge in the road was fairly impressive.

The kid herself, on the other hand, seemed just the kind of innocent Kisame had brutally assassinated time and again. He was seriously questioning the sanity of the people who'd signed off on this. But there would be time for that later. He shook the thought away and plastered a ...less than intimidating smile on. He hoped. It'd been so long since he'd tried not to frighten any and all comers.

"I am. Come on Konayuki-kun; you're to be settled in first, and then we'll see where you are, skill-wise."

He didn't wait for a response, obviously expecting the girl to follow--and he wasn't going to take the "offer" of her staying in the guest quarters. That was poor hospitality, and Kisame didn't want the extra headaches of the clan's disapproval on top of whatever ones he got from just taking care of the kid.

Ground-dwellers were so varied and so other from her clan that Konayuki wouldn't have been able to distinguish between a threatening and non-threatening smile unless he'd been swinging a sword at her during the former. Given that her current guardian wore a mask at all times, it was probably for the best that she wasn't particularly reliant on emotional nuance for reassurance. So as far as Kisame would be able to tell, his smile worked perfectly. She was soon following along at his heels, drinking in the sights of Kiri, and pestering this obviously friendly shinobi with questions despite every instruction to the contrary.

"Is it always this foggy? What sorts of animals do you hunt?" And as they moved through into a larger portion of the village, "Ah, Kisame-oniisan, would you know how many people live here? I thought most of the ground-dwellers lived in Fire, but there are just as many here!"

At the sound of her voice, Shino looked up from his quiet contemplation, careful not to crush the line of ants just past where he knelt with the shift.

"Hinata-chan."

The previous night had been a restless one for Torune and he'd been allowed to skip class to keep him company; ushered out to play once his cousin had found sleep sometime earlier that afternoon, so it was good to see his friend now, after missing her during the day.

"Did I miss anything interesting, today?"
The question was accompanied by a questioning tilt of his head, before he dropped his chin to again regard the marching creatures before him.
kikaichuu: (yes?)

[personal profile] kikaichuu 2015-02-24 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Without looking up, Shino raised his arm, small hand outstretched and the beetle that had alighted on the girls shoulder took flight, looping it's way back to it's young inn keeper.

It's chakra and careful patterns spoke of safety, or at least a lack of threat; ally and known spelled out for his consideration.
Shino nodded (a habit that he still struggled to suppress, but the movement was a lesser one now than past days) and looked up to openly regard the figure at the tree line, offering the smallest of waves in greeting.
thebestuchiha: (I'm totally on top of this.)

"Everything in the lands of the country called fire technically belong to the fire Daimyo. That works with all the other countries too." Big brother huh? she was a cheerful one... but the casual way she laughed away the death would warrant watching. Whether she wasn't that attached or simply covering well would be better than her being unphased by it.

He cuddled the child, making his way through the village with her. "So, what's your plan now that you've come to my village?'
abileunaspada: (You want me to WHAT?)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2015-02-24 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ah! She ducked back behind the tree, startled and almost frightened by the action. She peeked out again after too long though, taking time to look and recognize that it wasn't a threatening gesture and he wasn't mad or anything like that. At least, she didn't think her upperclassman was mad. The little girl peeked out a bit more then, clearly uncomfortable but otherwise not taking any action either to fight or flee.

It was quiet, but she did try to pick up her voice a little so that the other could at least hear her, "... Hullo."
snowchild: (:< - what're you talkin about)

[personal profile] snowchild 2015-02-24 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Um..." She hadn't really thought about it. But now that she was, the answer was obvious. "I'll live here and keep uncle safe."

She didn't really understand everything he said, but it was close enough to what she'd overheard from the adults that it all seemed to make sense. Ground-dwellers really were much more complicated.
thebestuchiha: (Bwaha I got you)

[personal profile] thebestuchiha 2015-02-24 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Just like that huh?" He nodded a little a smile touching his lips. "So, does that mean you expect to live with him or just int he village?"
noboatbigenough: (Might be a cunning linguist.)

So many questions. Part of Kisame grumbled suspiciously about information gathering, but he kept that part contained. Still, he wasn't going to give her anything that wasn't well known, just in case. She'd prove herself innocent of spying or not in time.

"Yes, and it's fishing more than hunting here. And for how many people, eh, hundreds? I'm not involved in census-taking."

Kisame knew the exact answer, but that wasn't information readily shared with the public, so quiet on that part he remained. They were walking through a street that had water flowing down the center, and a few restaurants here and there. Which, well, Kisame remembered being small and hungry all the time.

"We can stop for something quick to eat if you're hungry."

[personal profile] tenten_san 2015-02-24 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... [ Huh. Well, Tenten couldn't really vouch for the hunting around these parts. But then, she'd never actually had to hunt near the Konoha area. ] ...Good to know - about the animals being easy to catch.

[ Not about the mountains bit. But it was good to have her suspicions confirmed, somewhat, either way. And it was nice to know that Kakashi had not purposely left the poor thing out in the cold mountains all by herself without a reason. Paperwork tended to take a while to fill out and properly signed by the right people.

And this little ball of cute did not quite seem like the all too patient sort. All the same, that'll definitely earn the little snow baby a bright smile from the Panda-chan~
]

But forgive me, where are my manners? [ Shifts to sit on her knees and give a proper bow in greeting, mindful to keep their eyes relatively leveled at about the same height. ] My name is Tenten. And what would yours be?
snowchild: (pic#6936950)

[personal profile] snowchild 2015-02-24 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
She definitely hadn't thought that far ahead. Her plans had extended all the way to escaping the nebulous, panicked don't leave me alone, and that had carried her all the way to the Land of Fire. Now she was here, surrounded by people, her motivations were much less desperate.

"I've no idea!"
snowchild: (nyehehe - that's me)

[personal profile] snowchild 2015-02-24 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ Her return bow is decently proper - about half proper and half eagerness - but her return smile is beaming. ]

That's okay! Tenten-oneechan, right? I'm Konayuki of the Itezora, ten years old.
snowchild: (surprise - is that right?)

[personal profile] snowchild 2015-02-24 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
'Hundreds' was an impressive enough answer that she didn't even register the hedging. After all, she didn't remember how many people had been in her clan - the answer to that would always have just been 'all of them'. She kept up fairly well, occasionally surging sideways or forward to investigate something but always returning to heel. The canal was particularly fascinating, given the scarcity of running water in her homeland; the only fish she'd seen had been in the northern ocean during the summer hunts.

Food got her attention again, predictably. He was good at this.

"Really? Is that okay?"

"I brought your homework," she explains giving the bag a tug higher up on her shoulder as she moves closer. Her eyes are glued to the ground as she goes.

"Iruka-sensei showed us a couple jutsus that we'd be able to do by the time we graduate today. And a student a couple classes above us set the trash on fire trying to show off." She sighs, she might have rolled her eyes about the student if it wouldn't be rude. She didn't actually have anything against the student in question, didn't even know them. But there were plenty of occasions where someone in their own class did something stupid to show off and then have it backfire in their face.

"We have a quiz at the end of the week on tactics." She pauses studying the ants over Shino's shoulder, "What are the ants doing?"

[ 1. OPEN, pick your own scenario via plurk or subject line and we'll run with it. ]

[ 2. Team-building. ]

In theory, the decision to build trust and communication between a relatively new cell of genin via extra training was a good one. Blindfold the two who usually led, set them at the start of a hellish assault course, and place the fate of their shins and their prides in the hands of the quieter third... it had the makings of an excellent exercise. In practice, however, Sora had already stumbled into two trees, Karin, and their jounin sensei, and they hadn't even started yet.

She now stood nursing her forehead - having forgotten it was unprotected now that her headband had been re-tied over her eyes. Unerringly, she turned to look at Koharu. Give her sympathy......

"This is a lot harder than it looked..!"
willbeurprincess: (should i stop her or just look concerned)

If it was hellish on them, it was just as much so on her. Guiding Sora the ten steps to the start had been a trial, let alone what she got up to when Koharu was trying to take in the directions. Facing the Uzumakis, she took a deep breath. Focus.

"Well we just have to take it one step at a time, right? Are you alright, Karin?"

Experience had taught her that Sora tended to hit things with more force than her body should have. Like a tiny brick that knocked you right over. She smiled at them both, attemping reassurance until she remembered neither could see her. At least they wouldn't be able to see her when she faltered or winced. Getting them through this obstacle course would be a little difficult normally, let alone blindfolded and and dependent on her.

The wonder seemed honest enough, and he couldn’t help but smirk at the thought of how she’d react to the lake, if the canal was so fascinating. That she was keeping up was good for the future training. If she couldn’t even keep up on a walk, Kisame didn’t know what he’d do with her.

“Did you think we would starve you, kid? I saw how you got interested at the mention of fish, and that one there has some good fish dishes.”

It was a small and unassuming looking place, barely more than a food stand, but the available seats were all but full. Kisame liked their crab-stuffed swordfish especially, and it’d been some time since he’d treated himself to the dish. It wouldn’t hurt to use the girl as an excuse to do it again.
thebestuchiha: (Sideways smile)

[personal profile] thebestuchiha 2015-02-25 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
The flicker in her eyes at the question went a long way to reassure him that she was reacting to whatever happened to her family in some way, and he relaxed a little, hugging the child. "We'll sort it out. Do you want to go see him now then? He's in the village."

[personal profile] tenten_san 2015-02-25 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ And what a beaming smile it is! That's gotta be a hundred watts, and bright enough to make even Gai-sensei proud. So of course it's more than adequate to melt Tenten's heart, a little.

And chinpalm.

Chinpalm and smiling are happening.

What have you done to her tough kunoichi exterior, snow baby?
]

Well, it's very nice to meet you, Konayuki.

[personal profile] deadmae 2015-02-25 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The proper solution to this problem, Mae decided as he stared at the building, was arson. He hated missions like this--sneaky missions with no real purpose where he was supposed to soft foot around the problem and pretend he wasn't a killer who had literally no qualms about murdering people in their sleep.

Anyway, if this local political leader was so worried about assassins and conspiracies against him, Mae razing part of a town where the conspirators hideout was would totally take care of the problem, and it would stop wasting Mae's time. Anyway, if he burned down part of the town, then he wouldn't get assigned these missions anymore. Probably punished too, but maybe it would be something fun like working in T&I. They wouldn't mke him watch over Academy brat again after what he'd done last time....so it wouldn't be that bad.

And in deference to civilian life, he was going to set his fire in the early morning with some very nasty accelerate, so innocents could run screaming while the nefarious plotters who had been up gambling all night would be caught in their beds and probably choke on the noxious smoke.

Really, Mae was just bored enough he didn't care about proper planning and set up. He was just going to light the damn place up and let it burn.
snowchild: (squee - SO CUTE)

"Yes!" Of course he would be able to sort it out. Adults could do that, and he was one of the most important, if she'd understood correctly. She squeezed back lightly at the hug, then paused. "Ah, I forgot my pack... Let's go get that first, okay?"

She pointed back towards a large hide satchel, and a wrapped, sword-like object tucked away beside one of the roadside trees.

She would have been happy to be used as an excuse, even if she didn't realise that was what was happening. As it was, she almost bounded away from the path towards the tiny restaurant once he'd confirmed it, eager to see what was on offer. She hadn't expected anything of the visit, beyond a fairly nebulous idea of training or instruction by someone like her, but both the visit and the instructor were already shaping up to be infinitely more entertaining than she'd imagined.

She peered at the row of low tables, trying to work out if she recognised any of the dishes. When she didn't, she turned back to Kisame.

"Might I ask which kind you like best?" Without any preferences of her own yet, she was happy to be guided by his.
