Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Juugo sits quietly for a moment. He's not sure how it wouldn't be a curse, but... Well, if he was safe all the time, Juugo thinks he would find the power useful. If this will make him safe, he'll try it. This man feels so close, but at the same time, there's something a little different. Juugo can feel it inside himself, but he doesn't feel an it inside the man. And maybe another person's it can't be felt, but Nagato has described it as built up chakra before, so Juugo thinks he would be able to feel it.

He'll try. He doesn't know what this will do, or even if he should--he wants to ask Nagato about it--but he can't leave, in case the man decides not to show him. Juugo pays attention, and when it's pointed out, yes he feels it. Energy? that's coming apart and changing. But he doesn't know how the man is doing it, exactly, or why.

"I feel it..." Juugo doesn't try to voice the 'but' there.

"There wouldn't be much point in them if there wasn't sufficient difficulty. But thank you."

Noato tells herself that she needs to be patient, but patient is hard. She was so close to being ready when she moved to Uzushio, lacking more in proper experience, really, and now she knows she is. It's a little frustrating, really.

But Naoto pushes all of that aside. She will be patient. In time she will prove to Uzushio that accepting her was a good move, and to Iwa that in spite of her deficiencies with Earth, she was an excellent ninja, even then.

Not things she's exactly comfortable sharing with a stranger though, and Naoto is willing to admit her difficulties in casual conversation. She's not sure whether to let the conversation drop or move it on to another topic. Well, it will depend on him, she supposes.

Naoto actually laughs a little at the comments. She's reminded a little bit of her grandfather, and his constant attempts to get her to be less serious. "I must admit, I have an interest in history. It will be quite some time before I qualify for venerable myself."

Not that she doubts reaching it, really, unless there's a mission that goes exceptionally badly, and Naoto doesn't dwell much on the possibility of an early death. It would only be a distraction and end up undermining her.

"Something is always changing," Naoto continues, agreeably, "and adapting to change is what makes us stronger."

"Yes, that is possible." Gale knows he will have to be at his best and analyze things carefully to keep from being caught by lack of knowledge. But he is determined that he will not underestimate them. As far as mistakes go, overestimating them is the less severe, though that should also be avoided, if possible.

Argilla's statement also makes sense. The island will not support them for long, but he's wary of revealing that need right now. The Atma are so new to them, and they've all had vastly different reactions to that new need. It's all but impossible to accurately determine what a stranger's reaction will be.

But on the other hand, not enough food will end badly. They need to find a middle ground. "We will need to pursue avenues of food. But if they turn out to be enemies..."

It's almost... sad, that part of him wants them to be. It's his mind rationalizing an excuse to make his hunger less unacceptable.
vitalfunction: (Habitual motions.)

[personal profile] vitalfunction 2015-04-02 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That she doesn't drop the kind behavior is even more disconcerting than the idea of it being a lie. Gale wants to ... to remove it. Either by removing himself from the situation or by removing her. Neither of which is an acceptable option, but the second is the one that Vayu is pushing for, and Gale tenses--

Argilla moves. The motion is defensive, and Gale can tell it's not the more extreme motion she wishes to make. She's restraining herself, and it brings Gale back to the knowledge that the move he needs to make cannot be the aggressive one. So he goes still, as utterly and completely as possible, for a moment or two.

Though his eyes are closed, Gale is very aware of the woman standing across from them. He's tempted to employ one of the genjutsu he's learned since receiving his Atma, but that would also be counted aggressive if it was discovered, and some of their opponents have had strong defenses against such things.

So he merely opens his eyes, calm regained, and continues Argilla's statements to the obvious conclusions. "My comrade is correct. There have never been children in the Ruins, and you do not know us to be able to compare our actions to any other individual. Desist, so that we may commence negotiations appropriately."

She breathes deep and tilts her head at him. Her chin dipping in understanding. If they were enemies...well they would handle that as they always have. It puts a funny twist in her stomach, but it was a fact of their lives now, she didn't have to like it, but she did have to accept it.

"We do as we always have if they are. Lord knows Heat would prefer that they are." Not that she had to mention it, Gale knew that as well as she did. Their red haired comrade had embraced their changes and he sought conflict wherever possible in order to feed his demon. Was always the quickest to admit that he was hungry, even in the most miniscule way.

She sighs, "People... import livestock all the time?" It would be the easiest cover for their problem.

[1] BGS 23 - swordsman

Her body is failing. She can feel it in the slight drag in her muscles, in her breath that comes shorter and shorter and forces her laugh higher into gasps and blood. But it's not enough to go to Yuki, not yet, because she doesn't care what they might say and how many almost-orders the Mizukage might hiss, she doesn't trust that clan and their abilities; she doesn't trust how they'll slip away from a fight or mislead, and she's shattered no small number of frozen mirrors in disgust as their missing-nin fled. Now they offer her a chance for longer life. Let them freeze you, she's told. You might survive long enough for a cure to be found. Or stolen. Or manufactured by any of the insane clans in Water. You might not, but you're dying anyway. Who cares?

She does, and that's why she's stubbornly sticking to the training area and its inner courtyard where the apprentices like to roam, because they're not brave enough to rat her out to her medics and she's almost got this technique. One more pass at the training dummies-- she spins, and almost loses her balance, and shreds the wood with a perfect blast of lightning on the backhand instead. Whatever. Another pass will do it.

[2] AGS 2 - thawed out

She can't talk properly. Whatever they did to her throat during the process has left it raw and gummed over all at once, but she's enjoying herself anyway. For the first time since her hospitalisation, she's out in Kiri. With a minder, sure, but that's not new.

Doesn't have a wallet, though. Huh. She'll have to ask about back-pay. How much do ornaments get paid?

"Oi," she turns to look up - automatically, because who the fuck sticks around in Kiri if they're her height - and grins. She's croaking, but more importantly, "Want to buy me lunch?"

"No, there wouldn't be." He wasn't sure what else to say on that subject, but there was another obvious subject. "You prefer shorter blades?"

Most of Naoki's jounin mentors were much taller and wielded much larger weapons. They served them well by enhancing their greater reach. Even with a weapon as proportionally as large he would be at a disadvantage, but with the shorter blade he could fight one or two handed, and get inside the guard of larger fighters.

Naoki had initially been disappointed to be called in on a day he planned to use preparing for the jounin exam, but that had quickly evaporated when he received the details of his new assignment. He's following around Ameyuri. Literally and obviously, because he's mostly here to make sure nothing goes wrong.

The question catches him off guard, but he smiles and nods. "Sure. Do you like squid?" He knows a place nearby that's quickly becoming popular.

This is one escort mission Kisame actually pushed for. He remembers her, even from before he went to Academy, and the speed and grace and power-- And the illness that left her frozen for so long.

Who knows if she remembers him, but he's pleased to help her re familiarize herself with Kiri and what's happened while she was in the ice. There are so few of his senpai left, and Kisame feels oddly nostalgic for his first year or so as an apprentice when there were so many older and wiser to test himself against and learn from. He hardly got a chance to learn from her, but he's learned about her, and there's nothing but respect there.

"Of course, senpai. Any particular dishes you miss?"

"Don't remember. It must depend on the squid," she temporises, enjoying how quickly he responded to the sudden question. Things are looking better and better in the future, bizarre bloodlines notwithstanding... But she can deal with that individually. And later.

She shrugs. "Why not? Whether the meal's good or not, it'll be something to chew on."
lightsnack: (the kids are all wrong)

[personal profile] lightsnack 2015-04-03 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
As far as escort missions go, she's being remarkably well-behaved. It's only to be expected in a hunter with nothing to hunt that she's so relatively placid today, but the restlessness more than makes up for it. Every so often she strains her metaphorical leash, but for now she's enjoying staying to heel.

The fact that she's finding Kisame's 'sudden' height and age difference hilarious next to his polite tone has something to do with that enjoyment. He really grew into his sword.

She shakes out her limbs again for the eighth time since they left the headquarters, and revels in the feeling in her fingers.

"I need something to warm me up. How about oden? The real thing from that little stall near the sluice."

"So you're studying to use it... If you were just studying how to fight against it, I'd be happy to help -- Earth release is one of my affinities, and we're allies so it's not like I'd mind," Adela frowned, thoughtfully looking over the scrolls as she listened to the other. Hm...

"If you want some demonstration of earth techniques, I could help you out that way at least. Sometimes a visual reference helps when you're learning new stuff, at least I've found it works that way for me."

"Great, down that way and the next right," Naoki says, indicating a side street. Sure, he could lead the way, but while he doesn't think Ameyuri would genuinely run off to cause trouble, but he wasn't sure she wouldn't do it just to pick on him if he gave her an obvious opportunity.
lightsnack: (we'll go down in history)

She waits until she realises he's expecting her to precede him, then hisses a laugh through bared teeth at the cheek of it. Not that she wasn't planning on doing just that at some point, because he's a little too submissive for her tastes, but look at him taking the initiative. He might be interesting after all.

Hands briefly lifting in mock surrender, she heads down the alley.

"Down and the next right, got it."
withfocus: (pic#8916515)

[personal profile] withfocus 2015-04-03 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
He grins and follows her down the alley way. The place is pretty obvious, even though it's an off hour it smells delicious and there are people eating. He likes to grab lunch here when he can, and hopes she likes it.

"What foods do you remember enjoying?"
noboatbigenough: (Might be a cunning linguist.)

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2015-04-03 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kisame almost wouldn't mind a little bit of fun, but there's something to be said for an uneventful mission. He can see how she shakes herself out, like she's getting ready for something, and when he thinks about it that way, she is, isn't she? Living again. Fighting again. Kisame can't wait to spar with her, or see her in battle.

"Oden is an excellent choice." He remembers that little stall, and sighs. "The stall isn't there anymore, but I know of another that's nearly as good as it was. This way."

He turns and walks, expecting her to be able to keep up. Some might coddle, but he knows the Swordsmen. He himself would prefer to be forced to push himself than to have others slow down for him.

Gale nods, mouth twitching into a small frown at the mention Heat and his too eager acceptance of their new lives. Heat's constant search for enemies, will be difficult to counter effectively without revealing too much about them, or endangering these new alliances they needed.

Her suggestion isn't a bad one, but Gale wonders slightly if regular livestock would satisfy. This knowledge they've rediscovers indicates that this island is full of creatures called Summons, and Gale knows enough to know that they aren't generally used for livestock, being too valuable. And even these Summons don't always satisfy the hunger enough. Still needing to import food is a good cover, if they can only get the right food.

"It is worth the attempt. If it does not prove adequate, we will find some other means."

Having returned unrepentantly late to Suna earlier that week from a mission too close to Konohagakure for the reason for that lateness not to be bleedingly obvious, Gaara enters Baki's small office with outstanding calm. At least his only black mark to report this month is potential truancy rather than murder.

So far. Depending on whether he's allowed out again.

"Welcome back," he murmurs, taking the seat furthest from the door of the three set before Baki's desk and settling in to wait.
fourredstripes: (hmm)

[personal profile] fourredstripes 2015-04-03 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Baki was not fond of leaving the village for long periods of time. When he could help it, he preferred to stay close by, or to keep his excursions brief so he could return quickly. But when his village had need for him to depart, he would do as needed. He had been relieved to be back, and even more relieved to see that Suna remained more or less as intact as it had been when he had left it. A call for a meeting with his students was a reasonable idea following his long departure, and it was coming close to the time of year that they submitted assessments anyways.

He had been awaiting them in his small office on one side of the government buildings, hands folded neatly in front of himself. Gaara looks no worse for the wear either, calm and composed, which was usually a good sign.

"Thank you." He nods in turn. "I am glad to be back." Despite the sentiment, he glances at the door behind Gaara, wondering if his siblings were following along after.

Temari isn't surprised when she's summoned. If anything for the moment she's pleased. Normal she didn't avoid doing her work, but the work waiting for her she wasn't entirely enthused about and she could stand to put it off another hour. It wasn't like this particular agreement was a matter of life and death.

She's relaxed when she enters his office and takes the seat next to her youngest brother. So he'd finally returned from his mission, good. She was running out of things to tell the Kazekage when asked about Gaara. Crossing her legs, Temari folds her hands over her knee, the picture of at ease. "How was your mission, sensei?" The welcome back implied in the small smile she lets curve her lips upward for a moment.
fourredstripes: (hmf)

[personal profile] fourredstripes 2015-04-03 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Temari," He greets her in turn. "The mission was very..." His brow furrows for a moment, "Involved." It's the kindest way he can think to phrase his description of it. Tedious was a better word. He had spent most of his time waiting to hear back from his mission givers, chasing after progress from day to day even for information he should have been given to begin with. "I have a copy of the summary here if either of you would care to read it." He sets one of the bundles of papers on his desk aside to demonstrate.

The amount of waiting he had been given had mostly been spent on worrying about Suna, as usual, and given the things that had been running through his head, he is relieved to see that Temari too looks at ease. As the eldest she was typically the most level headed of the siblings, but that didn't mean she wasn't just as capable of getting into trouble. Not today, it seems. "You both seem well."
There is still one of them absent, however.

His stride is just that little too fast for her, but just as he was expecting, she pushes herself and is trotting beside him again before long, smirk wide at the victory over her own body.

"No kidding. What happened to it?" She remembers it too, though to her it's literally yesterday so, hey, not exactly an impressive feat. The guy who worked there had signed bowls from nearly every Swordsman along the back of the stoves - she remembered spending an hour trying to smash one of them. Can't remember whose it was... It'll come to her. She stumbles as they round a corner, but makes up the time by cutting to the inside, and shoots him a look in case he caught it.

four years ago at Kiri chuunin exam

[personal profile] withfocus 2015-04-03 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Naoki was looking forward to seeing Gaara compete in the chuunin exams. It was to Naoki's benefit that Gaara had been disqualified in the one exam they were both in and he was able to earn his promotion, but he ccouldn't deny that Gaara's unusual combat technique was fascinating to watch.

From their infrequent training sessions he knew Gaara was more than ready. But that wouldn't matter if there was another incident. So he showed up to the quarters belonging to Gaara with a small gift and to express his support. Naoki knocked on the door, holding the small fake plant delicately crafted from fabric and wire. The real version would not survive in Suna.
