Test Drive Post!

Sunshineverse
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right?

Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header:
Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation

Then you comment around and play with everyone else!

If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country.

One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on.

And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

"It is a brief return." He was gone more often than he was home, his missions taking him months at a time, and even when in Konoha, he tended to frequent Shisui's house more. His job made it quite easy to not have to announce his return to anyone but the acting Hokage.

He could only stay home and in the compound for so long before the questions and pressure about raising a family came up again, his plans still non-existent.

Itachi was here for the tea, Father being an unexpected variable, but he would still be the respectful son he was raised to be, and offer his help if needed.

Fugaku had sunken into the eternal predicament of "why don't you have any grandchildren, Fugaku?" (which he always thought in a querulous female voice). This led to clan issues, and personal issues, and the conundrum of how he was going to impress on Koji-kun that if he was ever caught vandalizing anything again, he would have to die a horrible death to preserve the family honor (not really, but if Fugaku said that, the kid might behave. Fugaku was not the best with children).

"I apologize for not saying it earlier." Fugaku couldn't bow holding the umbrella. "My name is Fugaku--Uchiha Fugaku, and it's a pleasure to meet you, Adela-san." Fugaku committed the name and face to memory.

"Have you been to see your mother?" Fugaku weighted the words with the seriousness they deserved. Fugaku was under no illusions about his children's affection for him, but they owed their mother both love and respect. And first visitation rights.

He nodded knowingly and then shook his head, turning to accept his snack and tea before looking back to him again. "Itachi-san's been looking a bit stressed recently."

He picked up his tea to sip it. "I hope that Mikoto-sama hasn't tried to set him up with anyone recently?"

"Not yet, Father. Apologies." He hadn't entered the village yet. Was simply close enough he could abandon his disguise.

"Though, it seems I will soon." And there was a careful nudge of his chin towards the basket and its items.

Now, if a kitten could come close enough, it could help the thin tension that always hung around the firstborn and his Father. Nowadays, it seemed like their blood was the only thing tying them together.

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-21 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Fugaku wouldn't know how stressed Itachi was because he hadn't seen Itachi in...weeks? Maybe months. The days tended to run together a bit for him these days. He had hoped by this time Itachi would be taking on a few more clan duties, and Fugaku could have a little more free time.

Unfortunately, Itachi seemed more interested in serving Konoha and avoiding his relations.

"If she has, she hasn't told me, and Itachi might be less stressed if he didn't run so many missions."
abileunaspada: (What are you getting at?)

"Uchiha-san, it's good to meet you as well," She bowed just slightly, carefully before straightening and gently petting the kitten in her arms. Feeling it purring helped, and she found the company was nice as well. Whether or not she could have pushed for conversation further was debatable, but with the short distance it likely wasn't needed. True, she could have commented on the flower bulbs or the cats, but that was none of her business -- actually, asking about it would be rude. She knew she wouldn't appreciate it if she happened to be embarrassed over it or something, so how could she expect this guy to?

... Wow, suddenly this was hard. Talking about the weather was out because although it was crap it was hardly unusual. She couldn't talk about missions, or herself, and what obligation was there to conversation over exchanging names? Absolutely none!

Crap crap crap crap crap now she was starting to panick. Great, now the silence just felt awkward to her, and she had no way of breaking it! What to do what to do what to do...

"She worries when you don't come by." Fugaku might worry a little, but he wouldn't say it or really show it. Itachi was, without a doubt, an accomplished ninja, and worrying about him wouldn't help anything.

Fugaku nudged the basket over and then set it between them, kitten and all. The kitten was awake, just lying in the basket like a stuffed toy. "Your mother might enjoy having some help in the garden." And if Itachi buried the bulbs, Fugaku wouldn't have to crawl around on his knees.
senseiofthesea: (I'm listening I promise you.)

[personal profile] senseiofthesea 2014-11-21 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"We both know Itachi-san likes to work." He paused a moment, not sure how to say this without being blunt, and he picked up a bit of his treat to nibble on while he thought about it.

"May I ask why you need him home?"

There was nothing quite like walking into a shop and seeing the head of a prominent clan sitting at one of the tables and clearly bent on taking up the whole bench. More surprising than that however, was the kitten in his lap. With absolutely no room to even begin thinking about posing a query to the Uchiha patriarch, Neji nodded a perfectly normal acknowledgement then turned his attention from the man to the much simpler task of getting a nice, warm cup of tea.

The rain that blew through was chilling in the wake of the wind that followed, and Neji counted himself lucky, drowned as he felt, that he'd found this shop to wait the majority of it out in because despite keeping his shivering under relative control, no shinobi was actually immune to cold. It seemed he wasn't the only one to think so, if the crowded shop was any indication.

Neji accepted his tea with a murmur of thanks and far be it for him to impose himself on a Clan Head, Neji moved to lean against the back wall to nurse it. That he managed to give Fugaku a respectable amount of distance was a considerable bonus, and the hard frown in his expression made him wonder if all Clan Heads developed that particular expression for a reason. Hiashi was certainly no friendlier in manner. Not that he was looking- or appeared to be anyway. The benefit of Hyuuga's blank eyes was a distinct inability to see where their attention was focused.

The kitten however, had no such reservations and stared straight at him in what appeared to be some measure of deep offense. Like it could sense the buckets of rainwater soaked into his clothing and saturated his hair.

Peace and a strained silence seemed to stretch between them and Neji wondered if it might be more polite to say something. He banished the idea within moments and decided to maintain his silence, because as foreboding as Fugaku seemed, he had no connection or real obligation to the man- beyond perhaps being partially responsible for Sasuke being hungover some days.

"It isnt my intention to worry Mother." And he knew that he would, no matter his hopes. He will indulge in the kitten for now, carefully removing it from the basket and setting the ball of fur in his lap, smoothing his hand down the run of the fur.
He didn't get to be around cats too often, not with being surrounded by crows any other time. Cats tended to interfere then.

"I'll make a visit to catch up and help." He knew what the conversation was leading to.

Fugaku walked in silent for a few moments, watching Adela. His life had, for many years now, revolved around dealing with interpersonal relationships and people in his clan, so it was fairly obvious the girl was uncomfortable. Since she was going out of her way to keep him from getting soaked, he shouldn't let her stew.

"Are you a Chuunin, Adela-san? And please call me Fugaku-san." After all, if one said "Uchiha-san" there was no telling how many answers there would be. When you lived in a family dense area, shouting last names drew too much attention. Fugaku could make bland table talk with just about anyone--as long as they were over ten. Under that, there was such a tenuous grasp of logic Fugaku found himself just nodding and saying "isn't that interesting."

Fugaku sat silent for a moment, giving Iruka a long, frosty look.

"Iruka-san, do I need a reason to want my son at home?" Fugaku had a rather...trained relationship with both his children, and he doubted he could ever repair that, but that didn't mean he wasn't seriously invested in their welfare. He did love his children, but his feeling of love didn't seem to come out in a way that anyone else seemed to recognize.

Except Mikoto, but that was a special talent of hers, evidently.

Fugaku would have taken the kitten back, but he couldn't grab it safely without probably touching the girls hand. Maybe he could scoop it up by the back, but the kitten seemed intend on getting the girls attention and would probably just flip out of his hand. It would be a sensation. Uchiha Fugaku throws a kitten.

It was a little rude to talk to the kitten instead of addressing Fugaku, or maybe just meek. Fugaku cleared his throat.

"I doubt that will be an issue." Though Sasuke did that as a child, prompting Itachi to reach for his infant brother with a look on his face that said his father obviously knew nothing about making babies sleep. Fugaku extended a hand for the kitten, who was completely focused on the girl.
disgruntledmountain: (Kind of smile)

[personal profile] disgruntledmountain 2014-11-21 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe Fugaku could recruit Itachi to kitten watch. He was sure these two would be a handful until they were a little bigger, and the lump in his lap maybe longer. This one did not seem to be a promising mouser, but the man wouldn't sell Fugaku the other kitten unless he took them both, and rumor had it their mother was an excellent mouser. Thus, two kittens--one small and loud, one silent.

"I'm sure no child intends to worry their parents. It simply happens." Especially when one had a child like Itachi. Fugaku watched Itachi handle the cat. Fugaku has grown up with mousers--very business like cats who only wanted a cuddle every once in a while.

"...then I will try to see that the house doesn't get flood with aunts and uncles and well wishers, so you can actually visit with your mother." Though, how Itachi planned to be clan head when he could stand so little of the family's pestering was beyond Fugaku. Being clan head was like being eaten alive by small, noisy birds.
abileunaspada: (Okay fine I'm smiling.)

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-21 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
She blinked hard at being spoken to, snapping out of her internal anxiety in response to the question. Ah, Fugaku-san -- somehow she felt a little privileged to be asked to use his first name like that, from someone she hadn't worked with on a mission anyway. Absently she nudged the cat up on her chest, re-adjusting her hold to get more comfortable as she answered him, "Since the start of the year. It's been a lot more exciting since my genin years, if not... Dangerous."

Considering that she almost died of snake poison and then a few months later had her eye nearly gouged and effectively blinded... But he didn't need to know that, even if her left eye openly showed the dulled colouration of an eye no longer able to see.

"I wouldn't change what's happened for the world though, not with what I've learned and how much stronger I've gotten. Not to mention the people I've met and worked with... I wouldn't have it any other way," The words caused a soft smile to tug at her lips as she thought about it more, because even with the bad a lot of good came out of it, "I don't think I'd enjoy it so much if I wasn't in Konoha. It just feels right to be here."

There's a smile. A thin, small one. But it's there. It was very kind of Father to try to quell the visitors in his home so that he could actually have peace and quiet with Mother, and tend to her garden in time if she so wished.

He's away so often that he unfortunately forgets Fugaku can be lenient. He tries to time it, he really does, too much time away and it seems like he's trying to separate from the clan entirely, and to little time gone and he'll be roped into grooming for the clan head too early for his liking.

He knew he'd have to do it eventually. It was really only a matter of time, and when the time came his silent and subtle protest would cease. He would put up with anything he had to.

Anything so Sasuke could continue making his own choices, even if right now they were trying to catch up to Itachi, still.

"Mm, I'll appreciate that." As little comments about his lack of a love life would always be appreciated. It's now he looks ahead, retaining his earlier passive expression. He's sure they'll leave as soon as the rain wants to clear up.
senseiofthesea: (Heee okay I'm thrilled!)

[personal profile] senseiofthesea 2014-11-21 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Iruka smiled though, clearly happy about the answer he got. "Of course not, Uchiha-sama. I think Itachi forgets that from time to time. You might need to remind him that sometimes you want to see him for no reason. If you like, I can coax him to speak to you more often next time I see him."

There was something about Fugaku's presence that always meant Sasuke had the distinct urge to straighten his shirt and try to flatten down his untameable hair, but with Hoderi still shuffling impatiently on his shoulder and both of them soaked by the rain, there was no way to look anything close to the presentable that a son of the Uchiha clan should have in public. Still, Sasuke's spine stiffened on instinct when he was addressed with ...

A statement that made him blink at first. "No, of course --"

He paused, then directed an accusing look at one of Hoderi's golden eyes. "Of course not, right?"

The chick rumbled deep in its throat before butting the side of his head. They were young enough that human speech was still coming slowly to their inhuman vocal chords, but the answer was satisfying enough that Sasuke could turn back to his father, somewhat relieved. "No, Father. I'm usually with them if they're outside."

There was another moment's pause before he clarified, uncertain if Fugaku was actually aware of the unexpected menagerie that had taken residence under his roof: "There are three of them in total, but none of them have taken a cat that I've seen."

Hoshigaki Kisame | Naruto | Let's go with still loyal to Kiri. For now

[personal profile] noboatbigenough 2014-11-21 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
On paper it was a simple diplomatic mission. There were documents to be delivered and looked over, then signed and sealed, and sent back to Kirigakure. Really, the important details had been poured over, argued over, and refined to the point that this was more like a courier mission.

Not the kind of mission a Kiri jounin would be sent on, much less one of the Seven Swordsmen. Not that Kisame was dressed as anything other than the standard jounin at the moment, and Samehada, with great protest from the blade, was waiting for him back in Kiri. He had a scroll to summon it to him, in case of very dire need, but it was a point of pride in his skills, and one too many kids eying him like they expected him to drop dead, that Kisame wouldn't be summoning Samehada any time soon. He wore an oodachi on his back instead for this mission, nameless to outsiders, but just as deadly as one of the feared seven blades in his hands.

He might even get to use it, because on paper, this was a simple mission, but Kiri thrived on lies, and as much as Kisame wished otherwise, he was still neck deep in them. Kisame was to observe--not quite spying, not out loud--and report back anything "interesting," while walking around the place as an average foreign jounin bored from a too-easy mission. He suspected he was also a test of the local shinobi's alertness and readiness, but that part hadn't been put into so many words.

On paper here, he was Hoshigaki Kajiki, average jounin of a fading clan, distant relative to the great and terrible Monster of Kirigakure, and Kisame wondered how many would actually fall for that. He would hope no one he'd actually met (fought) would mistake him for anyone else, and he wasn't going to stoop to more than clothing changes for this mission.

Well, this would either go very badly or it would go exceedingly well, and if Kisame got a fight, he didn't think he'd care which. He held back his grin to something a little more respectable and took strides further into the village. "Interesting," was it? What would he find to report back on here?
abileunaspada: (There's no way...)

So excited you have no idea.

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-21 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
No.

She was under a civilian guise (which was a little hard when you were half blinded but it wasn't a big deal), but it didn't stop Adela from stopping in her tracks and staring at the strange man down the street. She was on this mission solo, under cover for a brief while to gain some intel in the surrounding villages, but this... This wasn't something she was prepared for. That was a Kirigakure ninja, and if he was alone in Fire Country it was likely that he was at least Chuunin rank, if not greater.

The lingering fear that he was possibly sent to come after her specifically made the girl sick to her stomach, and she stumbled where she stood. Adela was barely still standing, feeling queasy at the moment. True, under her clothes and in a small pouch on her waist she was still armed, but she felt too damn naked dressed as a civilian without her sword. And if this guy really was here for her...

No. She was thinking too much into it. Trying to fend off her sudden dizziness, she assured the shop keep she was talking to that she was just a little tired and tried to head back to her inn, hoping beyond hope that she hadn't been noticed.

It would help if she hadn't walked right past him to get there, but then again it'd just be more suspicious if she ran, but maybe she should have run -- what if he already knew? No, that was stupid, no one could know on sight, she could pass for an Uzumaki, right? Right. That was only if they thought she was a ninja too, she was supposed to be a civilian... Gods what was that name again? She had to remember fast, but getting back to the room to just rest would probably be good.

Who's arm did she just bump into? She didn't care, getting out of there was more important.

The last thing he'd expected to see when he stopped for a meal on his way back home was Kisame.

Kisame dressed down in Kiri uniform instead of in his typical attire. And missing his blade. He had no idea how the man could stand to be out and about without his blade. He definitely couldn't fathom the idea of being without Masamune, that's for certain. Though to be fair there was no distance too far for him to draw that sword through the earth if he felt the need so that was far and gone beside the point.

Blinking, he took the last bite of his lunch and got to his feet to approach, head tilted in bewilderment why the man would even be here. "Hoshigaki?"

[personal profile] heavenly_earth 2014-11-21 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
He had the look of a savage, Neji decided with a frown. But that was on par with the general impression of Kirigakure. Nothing outwardly suspicious otherwise, if the blue skin and inhuman facial features could be ignored. The shinobi at the village gate had ensured the man's papers were in order and normally, he might have left it at that. But he was ANBU now, and he knew better than to ignore intuition by now.

And a quick once-over through the Byakugan revealed a startling amount of chakra- on par with perhaps even Kushina. Internal warning bells prompted him to take an unseen trip back to headquarters and as he changed into his normal attire, deliberated the merits of bringing up his concerns. But they couldn't afford to get edgy over every foreign visitor, and he was a relatively new recruit. No, there was a good way to handle this.

Neji left headquarters and effortlessly found the man again through his sheer volume of concentrated chakra, watched him from afar for a few more moments to remind himself to be careful. He had a decent in at least, having worked as Temari's escort for months now, and Kajiki appeared very interested in his surroundings- looking like it may be his first visit within the walls. Deactivating the Byakugan, Neji dropped to the ground to approach him from a far more casual angle.

Lifting his hand in a mild wave, Neji walked up to him with a smile.

"Hoshigaki-san, welcome to Konoha. I'm Hyuuga Neji, and I've been assigned as your escort for the duration of your visit. Please inform me if there's anything you need while you're here."

It looked like he didn't need to wait long before things got interesting. The freeze, and then the stumble caught his attention like a bird of prey zeroing in on the heartbeat of a mouse. Kisame slowed without faltering a beat to focus more on her. She was throwing off fear like it was a careless daimyo's wealth.

This would be too easy, and he was curious. Had this kid had bad experiences with Kiri before? Probable, but Kisame would need to research. He put on one of his less... intimidating smiles and grabbed her arm when she all but barreled into him. So scared she didn't even realize how close she'd gotten probably.

The motion was to steady, but the grip just a shade tighter than most helpful grips should be. "Take it easy there, kid. What if you'd startled me, eh?"

He didn't even pretend not to be a little dangerous; even civilians knew shinobi could have a hair-trigger when surprised.
abileunaspada: (I'm gonna be sick...)

Sob she totally is.

[personal profile] abileunaspada 2014-11-21 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
The grip almost had her reaching for a weapon that wasn't there, and she had to take a breath and mask the movement as covering her mouth -- and, in all fairness, she really felt like she wanted to puke. It took her a moment before shaking her head, clearly nervous as she glanced up to meet his eye.

"Sorry. Should've been more careful. Need to rest, getting sick," The words were hurried, almost murmured amongst the town bustle. The tug was timid, weak as she tried to free her arm - starting something in the middle of town was bad, and if she wanted to pull of the civilian guise -- actually being sick like this, this paralyzing fear, the small shred of logic in her mind that her panicking might have been a blessing in disguise.

But, unfortunately, the paranoia in her was still too much for her to ignore, and she tried as much as she could to just stay calm. True, he was a ninja, that just confirmed her suspicious, but at the same time... No, there was no guarantee that she was in trouble. She'd just wait for him to let go, so that she could go, and hopefully he'd leave her alone...
