Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. [1] Not up to trouble..

Yuffie spent a lot of time away from her home. She liked to explore, which meant get into trouble. This time however it didn't seem all that bad. She had heard stories of a treasure that was hidden nearby and she went looking for it. It was suppose to be located in some secret cave but she couldn't find any other useful hints.

Her boot scrapped against the ground as she turned to leave feeling rather foolish for even trying to find such a place. Usually she has more to go on before she runs off but she had a feeling that it might have been a good lead.

[2] Ambush

A lot of people would tell her that this was a dangerous way to practice but Yuffie preferred the challenge. She had a few traps set up along the path and then she waited. It was one of the few times the boisterous ninja was quiet. She steadied her breathing and listened to the sounds around her moving only after hearing someone approach.

Her blades flicked from her wrist at her target as she leaps back out of sight.

The traps were quite well-concealed. Kisame avoided them, of course, because he wasn't asking for injury, but it was enough that he wasn't insulted by the attempt. In fact, he was anticipatory, grinning at nothing in particular while he waited for the trap layer to show themselves.

The blades hit, but a moment later the water clone collapsed into a puddle on the ground, as Kisame switched himself to another position.

Now, if he'd judged that right, the ninja in question would be right about... here.

Grin on his face, Kisame rounded a tree trunk, steps as silent as an assassin. Would his attacker be able to anticipate that counter?

While Yuffie wasn't perfect she was quick enough to change her failed plans. She hadn't expected the man to be able to guess where she might moving and so she fell back landing back a few steps and barely out of his sight.

The only problem with this plan was that her butt hit the ground first and she went tumbling back a few feet. It was a loud collision with the ground making the young girl swear loudly.

"Craaaaap"

Kisame didn't even need to work to follow the girl. He laughed but it wasn't mocking, and shook his head.

"The traps weren't bad, kid, but you need to work on your ambush technique."

Still, while there was room for improvement, this girl hadn't proved that she couldn't improve so right now Kisame was inclined to be amused. And maybe if she went about it in the right way he'd offer some advice. In his own way, at least.

"Hey! Don't call me kid!"

Yuffie didn't like being talked down to even though it happened more often than not. Her gaze was locked onto Kisame as she rose, her movements fluid even after her slight misstep.

She had to learn quickly because that was how the young runaway survived. She took a small step back crouching down as she looked up at the strange man.

Kisame laughed at her indignation. “Then start working on earning something more.”

He watched as she stood up, approving of the fluidity. This definitely wasn’t a hopeless case, so maybe she’d actually be earning something more than kid soon. Heh, that was an interesting thought. He gestured to the traps.

“Did you have a reason besides practice?”

Boredom; but then she wasn't about to say that out loud. There were actually a lot of reasons the rebellious princess was out causing mayhem to those unfortunate enough to walk by. She was angry and annoyed and she found very strange ways to vent her frustrations.

She shrugged putting her hands in her pocket as if unguarded. She wasn't about to let her guard dropped around some random dude she just met and tried to ensnare. Without showing it she moved a blade from her pocket into the palm on her hand, her eyes trained on the stranger.

"Just.. doin' stuff. Figured anyone traveling this road would be.." Bad. She assumed those who were traveling this way would be related to those who took her island, or at least that was how she saw the water's protection.

Yeah, sure, try to ambush him, mmhmm

The abrupt noise and then absolute silence was a tell, and it made him pause, feline eyes tracking along the edges of the path as he came to a halt just before the traps would have started. It was the work of a moment to vanish from the path, appearing behind the younger shinobi.

Ah, this girl.

Of course.

"Yuffie."

Who said she has good ideas?

If Yuffie had seen her target she might have changed her ill conceived plans. However, Sephiroth manged to sneak up on the rebellious princess without so much as an whisper of sound.

She turned quickly looking up at the rather daunting figure. "Shit." There were probably more eloquent things to say but none came to mind.

FORGIVE ME, I'M JUST GONNA... THROW AN EXCUSE WHY SHE'D STILL BE A PRINCESS DOWN. FEEL FREE TO NOPE

He stared at the girl, then heaved a deep, unimpressed sigh as he leaned forward, one gloved hand coming up to flick her hair out of her face. His look was a bit arch when he spoke, just an edge of mocking. "Quite. It's times like this I believe I know why your father sent you away from the noble court."

It was harsh, but he wasn't exactly known for being gentle, and he straightened up a moment later. "Next time pick a less highly traveled area."

She refrained from flinching as his finger pushed her dark hair aside. She wasn't easily intimidated but then his words pierced through her pride. She was proud to be her fathers daughter even if she didn't agree with the many choices he's made. She couldn't understand why he would sell out their home for protection, of course that wasn't what was really happening but Yuffie only ever saw things as black and white.

"That isn't why!?" She took a small step forward staring up at the towering man, her words dripping with venom. "And how else would traps work unless there was someone else to run into them?" Yuffie was shouting her feelings obviously hurt even as she tried to cover it up.

"Hm. You say that as though you don't believe it." Being the daughter of an eldest son who let his younger brother take over the country for profit? He wouldn't believe her being sent to be a village shinobi as anything but a bid to keep her from politics. And if her ability bluff was this low, she needed more training even in that.

"I didn't say untraveled, I said less. You're too impatient. That's why you were ever in my unit, if you'll recall, though you didn't... stick. Shame, yu might have benefitted from a longer stay."

"Of course I believe it!"

How was it whenever he opened his mouth Yuffie got more and more pissed off? Her eyes glared up at him and she crossed her arms. She thought about turning away but she really didn't want the daunting man to leave her sights.

"AND I AM NOT-" She cut herself off. Yuffie was talented except she lacked patience. "I can do just fine on my own." And she was stubborn.

Nanako had actually chosen that path because she had seen the traps. She wasn't usually able to enjoy the luxury of a day outside the bowels of Torture and Interrogation, and the carefully laid ambush gave her a flash of nostalgia—when was the last time she had seen one like that? Back during the war, just after graduation, probably.

She smiled warmly and brushed a long, dark lock of hair over her shoulder.

Yuffie was quick, but not quite quick enough to get a leg up on a Jounin of Nanako's caliber; she shifted, seamlessly releasing the seal on her Darling and bringing the hard hilt of the massive, wicked-looking naginata around to slam into the younger girl's solar plexus. It was paired with a footstep, and finished with the long blade gently pressed against her jugular.

"I would recommend you keep this sort of thing to the training fields, Kisaragi-san," Nanako said pleasantly. They had never met, but Nanako was a Director of an Intelligence department, first and foremost. There wasn't a person in the village she didn't have some sort of file on.

She felt the air rush from her lungs as the hard metal contacted her small frame. She was usually quick enough to dodge out of the way but making her almost defenseless when she gets hit.

Yuffie quickly looked up at the woman feeling the pressure on her neck. She steadied her breath waiting for the woman to move. Hearing the stranger call her name gave her pause. She had run from home trying to leave her relations behind and yet someone knew her.

She could only assume this would end poorly. "Fine. What do you want then?"

"Just to give a bit of advice, really." Nanako said, with a warm, gentle expression that was a sharp—no pun intended—contrast to the evil looking blade that didn't waver so much as a millimeter. "Keep this sort of thing out of areas where civilians might wander. If they get hurt, you will be persecuted as a criminal, despite your lineage." Or perhaps, because of her lineage was a better way to put it.

The daimyo of Water country wasn't exactly the kindest of men, and any chance to bleed concessions out of the newest state under its protection would likely be leapt upon.

"Now!" In the space of a blink the naginata was gone, and Nanako was clapping her hands together serenely. "Why don't I help you clean this all up? Wire has a tendency to kink up terribly if you aren't careful about unwinding and maintaining it."

"Fine, fine." Yuffie didn't like being scolded even when she knew that this woman was right. She was angry and annoyed and it was hard to find an outlet for the feelings that kept bubbling up in her chest. Added to the fact that Yuffie wasn't the sort to ask for help.

She walked over to the nearest wire placing a heel on one of the points with a grim expression. The wire snapped and coiled up at the base of the tree. "There all set up like that." Which she had designed on purpose in case someone tried to use her traps against her.

"Hm." Nanako said, because she was the closest thing Sephiroth had to a mother and this child's sulky face struck her as cute. Some things rubbed off over time, like stoking flames with the tiniest of actions. She briefly tensed and then—

The rest of the wires were neatly coiled and hanging in a thick, even loop from two slender fingers.

Yuffie looked up expectantly wondering why she was staying so quiet. She was doing what she was told which was a rare case in and of it's own. "So?" She gestured around them indicating to the disarmed traps. There hadn't been many so it was easy for Yuffie to unhitch them all quickly.

"It's done." She crossed her arms over her chest. "Now what? You going to report me?" That was usually the way of it and Yuffie didn't much care for authority.

2, everyone likes a good ambush

Naoki recognized Yuffie's style of trap making as he walked calmly along the path. They hadn't spent much time together on Sephiroth's squad before she was rotated out, but Naoki was very good at learning his teammate's abilities and how to best work with them.

It was harder to pick out the sounds of someone else's breathing and heartbeat when he wasn't using the silent killong technique to be absolutely noiseless himself. Even then, he was ready, using Kiri-shunshin to flicker over to her general area as the blades flew and she leaped away.

"Having fun, Yuffie-chan?"

She might have recognized him a little but then Yuffie wasn't so good with names and faces. When she called her she couldn't help but smile dropping down from her hiding spot over head.

"Oh, hey."

She put her arms behind her head with a wide smile. "What's up?" She wasn't about to mention all the traps she had laid out nor was she about to put any of them down.

"Just heading back. No missions today?" Yuffie really was going to get in trouble one of these days, but Naoki wasn't going to argue with her about setting traps outside training areas. On the other hand, leaving traps on the training ground would be good surprises for genin and students.

Yuffie shifted her weight between her heels and her toes with a smile. "Nope." She was bored and traps were something she enjoyed. That and Stalking people but she's gotten yelled at for that many times in the past.

"So what's up?" She jumped up to one of the wires she had set up and lazily started to walked across it. She was't good at sitting still.

Naoki shrugged, and decided he owed her for that surprise attack. Working to catch Sephiroth had greatly improved his speed with certain ninjutsu, so while he usually utilized this wind release ninjutsu to make a whirlwind that dropped someone in the air to the ground, this time he turned it to other way in an attempt to launch Yuffie into the air.

It was more polite than cutting her wires, at least.

She felt the wind pick up around her and glared down at Naoki. There wasn't enough time for her to move from his attack but she was obviously annoyed. She felt herself lifted from the wire and tossed upward. It wasn't so hard for her to bend in air and land gracefully on the ground.

"Was that really called for? It's not like I did anything." At least she hadn't yet. He hadn't run into her traps but now she would be sure to set up a special one just for him.

Yuffie kicked the ground with a grunt.
