Test Drive Post!
Sunshineverse | ||||
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Obi-Wan Kenobi | Star Wars | ???? (from old Uzushio)
He seems quiet and unassuming, with an enigmatic smile offered to any of those who look too closely. Kenobi knows he's been away from civilization for far too long, but it doesn't stop him from being overly polite, taking great pains to not hide his age or his quietude. He is simply a traveller passing through, awed at all the
newfangledfeats of various ninja hopping about cities, eyes observing carefully, but not too closely, and just as likely to spend his time staring and inspecting a ripe piece of fruit as he is when looking at a particularly well-balanced blade at a weapon's stall. Some of it is trying to absorb everything. Trying to catch up with the world that has moved on ahead and dwell in those simple pleasures of life. And some of it is living up to that reputation of a very polite, if crazy, old man.
2 - Openly in Meditation
A sight one might stumble upon in any country, though the farther you get from the Land of Lightning the less likely you are to find him. It's almost odd, how he sits peacefully in the midst of whatever terrain, eyes closed and seemingly at full rest. Those who are very clever (or very paranoid) will note how while he strays into other countries, he is very careful to remain forever outside what might be considered a ninja village's outer limits, coasting easily just along the border of 'reasonably neutral territory'.
He is very still, remaining unperturbed by petty natural disturbances, and the wildlife of an area seem very content to leave well enough alone. But whatever he's doing, the feeling of chakra at work can be hard to ignore if one is sufficiently adept at reading it. He is a man perfectly in sync with his natural surroundings, the energy around him flowing through and in, absorbed and recombined and released in sync with his very regular breathing—a man at peace.
Even so, a sword rests not far from where his hands are loosely resting over his folded ankles.

Then he feels something that nearly makes him drop out of the sky. When he recovers he lands quickly, and edges closer and closer to the feeling until he sees an older looking man just sitting serenely on a small rise. Juugo stops behind some jagged rocks and peeks out shyly, watching with a lost expression.
Why do you feel like me, he wants to ask, but this is a stranger, and very close to Rain. What if it's an enemy? But what if his instinct is correct and it's someone like him, maybe even with his curse?
Disney Princess Juugo
"Come here, young one. Do not be afraid."
Meanwhile, Kenobi will bask in the feeling of this unknown presence. It has been so long since he has been around other people, much less those he might call kin, and the distinctive way they are bright in the chakra landscape around him is comforting. Even if this one still seems to have much to learn, all his excess energy seemingly without bounds.
"Sit with me."
it cannot be denied
When he's closer, he's sure of it, but he doesn't know why. He remains standing but tips his head. It's not polite to ask questions right on meeting someone, but he can't hold in the need to know. "Hello. Why do you feel like me?"
no subject
Techniques, it feels like, this young one might never have learned, given just how strong and uncentered he feels.
"Sit, and breathe with me." And that's Old Ben, strange old man meditating in your forest who immediately tells you to sit your butt down and learn some instruction.
"To start, we ought to work on your control. Even basic exercises should be able to help you with some of that internal unrest of yours." Something about the way he says them make it evident that he is counting on some sort of compliance, but it isn't forceful, just... expectant. A teacher, waiting with an endless patience to see if a student is ready to learn.

That was all the answer Juugo could think to give and he's not sure how to respond to the part about being relatives. He remembered that he'd shared it with his mother, though it was distant, faint, and only really appearing in his dreams when he was small again, and the woman before him covered in blood--
He shook his head at the image that tried to intruded and focused on calming himself and the sudden racing of his heart at the bad memory. When he got upset it got closer to waking up, and he pushed more of his chakra at Nagato through his earrings. It wasn't really pushing it out so much as flaring it to get Nagato's attention to take a little more than usual.
Meditation helps him calm his emotions though, so he eagerly sits and starts breathing in the slow careful way he's learned to for calming his emotions. He's not sure if it will improve his control of it at all, but he likes meditating.
"Will it really help control the curse?" Because he has to ask. If there's a way to really control it, so he'll be safe Juugo would do almost anything. He won't leave Nagato, or betray Ame, or kill, but anything else.
no subject
Kenobi watches him meditate, and settles back into his own, very slowly starting to separate apart the different energies inside himself in time with his breathing. "Can you see what I am doing, or would you like me to guide you through it more slowly?"

If there happens to be a bit of a dangerous thrill to all of it, well that's just a bonus.
It's how he winds up diving to the floor of a market stall, under the counter and adjusting the cloth to obscure most of him from immediate view. His only tells are his boots if anyone cares to look down, but he happens to be in luck and there's an older man standing in front of the stall at the moment.
"Nice shoes," the stall most definitely not containing a thief whispers.
/flip-flops between young and old icons b/c why not
Kenobi is trying really hard not to chuckle. It is a Very Strong and Masterful Urge, that is luckily able to overcome, though the humor certainly hasn't left his voice as he shifts his stance subtly to further block said most-certainly-not-a-thief from view with the long length of his own cloak.
He takes his time as he eyes over the wares, and waves the stall owner off with a kind old smile and assurances that he will be 'quite fine, thank you,' when a barrel of said owner's stock suddenly tips over and goes spilling out into the street. He keeps his gaze switching back and forth from the merchandise on the stall table and the owner gathering up his stock, while muttering to himself the way old folks do.
"I don't suppose I'll get a name with my compliments?"
no subject
He slips out from beneath the counter to stand street-side, and gives the man his trademark sharp grin and a sweeping arm that might pass for bow given his relative lack of height. "Nagata Kin at yer service."
"Clever trick, that," he continues with a nod to the barrel and the owner hastily stuffing scattered merchandise back into it. "How about's you lemme repay ya with a drink? He looks busy."
Not that he'd really needed the help, but don't let it be said he's the ungrateful sort. Besides, the man seems the interesting type. Not many would help a thief.
no subject
"I wouldn't mind a drink. I confess that I don't quite know my way about, if you'd be so kind as to show me around." Still grinning politely, he rubs the beard on his chin as if in thought. This 'Nagata Kin' seems an interesting character, and some of the best places to get information are from folks like this one. Besides, he wouldn't mind the friendly company.
no subject
"Not from 'round here these parts, eh? Well no worries, I may not be the best tour guide, but I still know my way around." He leads them down the street at a pace that's quick for him, but normal enough for tall folk with their long legs. Hazel eyes dart about for the guard he'd pissed off, and maps familiar escape routes as they go.
"So where ya from, stranger?" His grin turns positively saucy. "Fink I'd've remembered seein' your like before."
no subject
"Oh, I'm from around and about really. Ended up having some roaming days in my youth and never quite managed to settle down after." It's almost true, from a certain point of view. Still, he talks about it freely, something relaxed. There are mixed feelings as to what set him travelling, but the path he has gone down, all he has learned form his study and meditation, the mastery of himself and his arts. He has grown in these past 30-odd years, and he does not regret that in the slightest.
"I grew tired of listening to my own voice, really." He can't help it, he gives 'Nagata' a wink back. "Thought I'd find some more pleasant company, and here was the closest place with open hot-springs." Totally playing up the old, indulgent man. In fairness, the hot springs here are fantastic.

COMING TO SEE WHAT'S WHAT THEN SHALL WE?
But it wasn't like anyone else had abilities like Juugo that he'd ever had come near his village so he was bewildered.
Thus, he'd gone looking, after Juugo had finally split off from what quickly became clear as a distinct presence, though admittedly not going all the way back home, and he made it there in good enough time to easily pass him from his perch.
So whoever it was had Juugo's interest too. Satisfied, he moved over, turning his head to look down at the man, Rinnegan shadowed by his bright hair. "You're unique."
no subject
"There aren't many old men who wander around to meditate outside of shinobi villages, no. I suppose that would make one unique." Perhaps he's being deliberately obtuse, or perhaps he simply isn't understanding the question. His eyes are still closed, hands still at rest. Simply breathing, steady and controlled. The circumstances have not changed since the young man first came by and left. He is a teacher, and if a student wants answers, he will have to ask them.
no subject
He suspected the man was fully aware that he and Juugo had a similar... feeling to them.
"Why are you here?"
no subject
"Sit. You could certainly use some practice as well, especially if you are so attached to that young man, earlier." Kenobi plans to stick around, most likely. It wouldn't be right for him to move on without granting the one of the first Je'daii he has encountered in ages proper instruction—especially since Juugo had been lacking it. But Kenobi doesn't know if he will stay, and if this is not where he is meant to stay, someone will need to be able to train the boy further.
And possibly have this young man learn more for himself, if the interesting tangle of emotions that Kenobi can feel tied up in this his spiritual energy are anything to go by.

2 old Uzushio, meet new Uzushio?
She's cautious as she approaches, not openly aggressive, but her hand stays close to her sword--more of a wakizashi than anything--just in case. She takes note of the stranger's sword and wishes she was a sensor so she could feel if this was a shinobi or not. She can tell that the blade is excellent condition though, and that increases her interest. She could interrupt whatever it is that he's doing, it looks like it might be some brand of meditation to her, or she could simply observe
The second option wins out she watches closely from her position at the base of a tree not far away. Will he react to her presence?
Excellenttt
"I do hope I haven't trespassed. It has been some time since I was in the area." Thirty years, or more. It still hurts, almost, the way this land is still familiar to him, even after 31 years of a self-imposed exile. He waits a moment or so more, giving his spectator a chance to reveal themselves before he turns around to face the tree, and easy smile on his face—bland and pleasant.
Much better than the mix of emotions he knows he would be feeling otherwise, if he hadn't just released his thoughts in meditation.
"There wasn't much here before, last time I was around."
no subject
"Whether or not you have trespassed depends on your purpose in coming here." Her phrasing is boyish, though the pitch marks her as a girl, and because this man is so much older, she doesn't try to sound rough and tough, but instead speaks politely.
"We in Whirlpools have worked hard to rebuild what was lost."
no subject
His voice pitches back to its usual volume, polite. "I was simply passing through to meditate, as you have seen. I hadn't realized I'd wandered so close to a village." There is a part of him that says Uzushiogakure should be a good few miles southeast still, but he quashes it ruthlessly, and then, finally, let's it go. A relic of an old age, with little place in the new one he finds himself living in.
He should leave it at that, but something in him—some old loyalty, to a bygone world of a bygone age, perhaps—won't let him just walk away. So instead he says, "It is a noble thing you are all doing: rebuilding from the ashes and starting anew."
no subject
"I understand. The rebuilding has changed the locations of many things in Whirlpools in one way or another. May I assume that you've visited this country frequently in the past?"
In response to the second statement Naoto looks away, not sure how to answer. One one hand, it is a noble thing, but would acknowledging that seem arrogant? She wishes to be seen as tough and strong, of course, but not arrogant.

2, sword enthusiasts unite
He had summoned a pair of bird-sized moths to help him locate the flower. These two were fast and agile, if a little noisy, and he followed one into a clearing to see what it was so excited about. Naoki finds the scene unusually peaceful for all that he just came across a foreign ninja. "Hello."
Naoki's sword stays on his back, in its sheath. Appearances can be deceiving but he's not worried about running into a fight. They're in more or less neutral territory that doesn't require suspicion or action from either side.
swiggity swooty
He stands, slowly, careful not to disturb the moth. He takes up his sword and rises in one smooth movement, sheathing it carefully and turning towards Naoki with a smile. "I take it this delightful little one is yours?" He offers out the hand with the moth, which finally takes off from where it rests upon his fingertips.
