Test Drive Post!
Sunshineverse | ||||||||
Okay everyone, it's time to test some people out! The rules of the game are simple. You have a character you would like to try out as a native to the setting of this game. You want to see if this is the right setting to play said character in, right? Well, then all you have to do is drop them into this post as a top level comment with this as the header: Character name | Series (OC's just put Original here) | Planned Village Affiliation Then you comment around and play with everyone else! If you need some ideas on how to get started, you can drop your character in during the middle of a mission, have them at an eatery around their village, or maybe even just doing weapons practice. It's up to you how you want to set out, so feel free to put your characters in this version of the Naruto universe however it most seems appropriate. Just be sure to say where you put them somewhere in your post though, otherwise two people might not even be threading in the same country. One last thing! Remember that your character was born in this universe, so whatever else you decide, your character is a world native, even if they might be a tourist in the village you decided to test them out on. And that's it. Just be good to each other and have fun! Threads you do here can count toward future activity checks, so long as the person you're threading with gets in too. These threads can also be used for samples on your application.

Nagato | Naruto | Amegakure
He still believed that pain was sometimes, often even, the best teacher, but he'd also come to realize that not everyone learned the same way. Still, he was ever wary of outsiders, but that didn't mean he wasn't making... attempts to improve his views. Still, this was the first time he'd personally ventured toward the edges of the country in....
In years.
He hadn't left it, ever, but it still made him thoughtful, staring through the rain from his perch to the lands beyond which seem to flouish so much more easily than his own.

When he unseals it he will find that it is actually two folded together, one being for the official business and the other for the more friendly message. Though she did take pity on him and use different colored paper for each despite folding them together. The official one is on blue paper while the personal missive is on a sheet of pale ivory paper.]
Nagato-san,
Uzushio would like to send a delegation to work out a minor treaty allowing our merchants to buy and sell within Amegakure. It would be highly beneficial to both villages to strengthen ties as we are both still small in comparison to other nations.
We await your reply.
Karin
[The second scroll is less formal and much lighter in tone though still respectful of his position as the leader of his village and their distant familial ties.]
Nagato,
Sorry to send you two at once, it seemed more efficient to do it that way. We haven't heard from you in a while. You've been well, I trust?
-Karin
[Yes that is all of the personal message, short and too the point as usual.]

She's definitely lost. It's a little awkward, but nothing to panic over. The rain was inconvenient, but not exactly deadly...like that time they'd gotten separated in the snowy parts of Kumo. It was to be expected, sometimes. They'd split up and she'd stepped wrong and ended up on a long and unfortunate mudslide.
She was pretty sure her thigh was sprained, and that was...that was particularly painful, but she didn't have much choice but to keep on going until they could get to a village that actually had a medic nin. Conversations had come up before about potential healing abilities of the beetles Shino kept (rather than devouring chakra, it was possible he could have them give chakra, should he figure out exactly how to do that) but even if their skills extended that far...she wasn't sure she'd willingly submit to having his bugs on her.
She could always try genjutsing herself into not feeling the pain but that...
Yeah, that just wasn't a good idea on so many levels she refused to count them.
So she limped through the rain, mostly lost, a lot muddy, and a little bit aware that she was near the border of Amegakure. The figure she finally spotted a small distance ahead was the first sign of human life she'd seen since splitting off with Kiba at her specified point. The chances of her running into the hostile nin here when she was probably far off course were next to nil, so getting directions probably wouldn't hurt.
She held up her hands as she approached (limping still, though less prominently just in case she needed to look not-vulnerable) the figure just to show she wasn't holding weapons. "Excuse me...I'm a little lost..."
Considering how covered in mud she was, including clumps and streaks through considerably long (considerably messy) pink hair...she assumed a claim like that (true as it was) wouldn't be immediately dismissed as a ruse. Clearly she was either just out of a mud-wrestling match, or she had fallen in treacherous rain-soaked forest and gotten disoriented.

Nagato-niisan,
I'm sorry it's been a while since my last message. I was on official business at the festival in the Land of Waves but still managed to have some fun. I think you would've liked it even just for a day. I managed to steal a little time in Konoha (where I'm writing you from!) for the next two days before I have to go back. Minato and Naruto are doing fine and I'll be sorry to say goodbye but I'm hoping to get one or both of them out to visit me after the first academy graduation exam takes place. You know you're always welcome to come by Uzushio and visit too. Actually you should come visit someday. Even if it's just for a little while.
Looking forward to your reply and hope you're doing well!

Karin | Naruto | Uzushio
Mumbling she huffs out a breath as she starts walking on a path that would take her on a wide loop around the village and take most of the day to complete. She had work to do, a fact that crossed her mind frequently as she watched the ground beneath her feet, her arms crossed as she brooded.

But finally he could come up with no more excuses and the white haired ninja had set out for home. He had his latest book he wanted to show Kakashi, after all, just in case the fool hadn't gotten a copy already. Good books, okay?!
[OOC: You have a couple options! Waylay him along the way to Konoha to chat, fight, etc, or run into him somewhere in Konoha itself (either eating somewhere, a not-so-public bath, or a bar).]
no subject
Okay, maybe he didn't. That might be for the best. Still, it was a pleasant surprise to spot white hair, then realize it wasn't his teammate, leading to him peeling off his walk to look in on the man. "Jiraya! I haven't seen you around in a while. A very very long while."
no subject
What caught his eye from routine, though, was a sight he knew he couldn't forget. One of the Sannin, huh? That could spell some trouble if he weren't careful, knowing full well what they were capable of. One had to when you were under the direct supervision of one, after all.
Pulling a fake, but hopefully convincing, smile to his lips he hopped down from a nearby tree closest to the path. His hitai-ate with the Otogakure symbol prominently featured as he wasn't required to be under stealth for this particular juncture.
"Now aren't I lucky to happen upon as legendary shinobi on my way through." He started, tone seeming nothing but friendly.
no subject
So she quickly took to scouring the village, asking around various places if he'd been seen. Finally, she caught sight of him heading for a bar and stepped up behind him.
"HEY! Ero-sensei! Where do you think you're going?!"
Hands on her hips, pretending to be mad, using part of her son's nickname for him in public to complete the illusion... And yet, her eyes betrayed how happy she was to see him again after so long.

Sakura | Naruto | Konoha
Some ninja somewhere out there probably knew a better, faster way through a forest than leaping branch-to-treetop, but that person...wasn't her. Unfortunately, the three ninja chasing her were also familiar with the technique, so the only thing between her and those three catching up was her own speed. It was a shame she wasn't a wind-chakra user. Hayame Shirakumo's fleet foot jutsu would have been useful.
But...he wasn't around to help her with that particular jutsu this time. He was busy taking care of the elite two bandit ninja who'd attacked the caravan they'd been assigned to protect. Last she'd seen, Shino and Kiba had teamed up on the five flunkies who'd come along. They were fine, the hidden beetle jutsu, or whatever new vaguely creepy man-beast jutsu Kiba had cooked up would deal with ninja like those easily. All the same, they wouldn't be of any help to her either.
No, these three shinobi were hers to deal with. And she couldn't expect someone else to come and pick up the slack when she'd volunteered for this. A shinobi who couldn't carry their weight on their team was no shinobi, and one who expected their teammates to protect them didn't really deserve to be one.
A branch snapped behind her and she spun in the air. Steel flashed lightning fast, as her blade sliced a line along the branch she'd just kicked off of. The dust and plant fibers that shot up quickly coalesced into a mud-web, and she dropped to the dirt path beneath her. As her knee impacted the dirt, an open hand slammed the ground, sending a wall of rock and dirt thundering up to the tree branch she'd dropped from. Either they'd have to expend time and energy blasting through that dirt wall, or they'd try to follow her path and go right through the sticky-mud web. Either way, their pursuit would be at least somewhat hampered.
She turned around to charge off once more, intent on leading them somewhere her skills would be better used...and found a kunai sunk into her gut. She blinked down in shock at the hand holding the kunai (and the smirking bandit-nin who possessed it), and collapsed into a pile of dirt.
"Earth substitution clone. Sorry." The pink haired chuunin spared the trio of shinobi (who had simply snapped a branch behind her with a kunai to disguise their position) a sympathetic grimace, and--once the three glanced back at her in surprise--clapped her hands together in four quick signs. "Nightmare illusion: Endless drop!"
The three shinobi's eyes went clear as the genjutsu took hold, and one of them managed to scream, before all three collapsed on the ground, temporarily catatonic. As one would be if they suddenly found the earth open up underneath them and started falling into an enormous, bottomless chasm.
...Maybe that was a harsher genjutsu than she needed to use, but they had just tried to stab her with a kunai.
After a few moments of monitoring the chakra flow linked to hers and ensuring they were under, she dropped from the branches to the ground once more, long pink ponytail fluttering out behind her like the ridiculous scarf some shinobi insisted on wearing, and she glanced up at the earth wall and net, debating on whether to release it.
Ultimately...it probably wouldn't hurt to leave it. Just in case.
She turned to start on her way back to the rendezvous point Shirakumo-sensei had dictated, and startled herself once more. "Ah!"
A person on the road ahead?
[OOC: The person may be unrelated to the mission, an ally...or maybe this was just a training session and it's abruptly finished.]
Route 2:
Chuunin weren't expected to jump and race all over the village like genin were, no longer given cat-chasing duties or similar missions...but Sakura often still did. Shirakumo-sensei kept rigorous training schedules for his students, but she still always felt like she had years to make up for in physical training, after spending so much of her Academy life avoiding practice days that would make her a target of ridicule. Exercising her skills in town was better practice than waiting on missions to refine her skills.
Besides that, she'd only been chuunin for a year now. It was hard to adjust in some ways to the way expectations of her differed. Team Shirakumo hadn't taken part in the chuunin race most of the rest of her class participated in. The group they'd called the 'Rookie Nine' had rushed into their chuunin exams almost immediately after graduating, and those that failed to pass that year tried again the next year, or the year after. Hayama Shirakumo would have none of that. She, Shino, and Kiba had taken their exams at fifteen. No one really noticed their exam (except Shino's terrifying bug techniques he used on the Iwa-nin he faced in the finals) but they had passed easily on their first try, and it kept them from wasting any time on failed or repeated exams.
She was glad for better missions and better pay now, and to no longer be called a 'junior' ninja...but sometimes it was hard to remember chuunin weren't expected to use the village as their personal outdoor gym.
She was always careful not to take shortcuts through bedrooms, nor to intentionally land near any windows where secret missions were being handed out or meetings were being convened...but it wasn't her fault if she happened to pass by one she didn't know to avoid. On those days, she liked to consider it a bonus training mission: don't get caught by an angry jounin, kage, ANBU, or other much stronger shinobi than her.
Usually, she tried not to need genjutsu to accomplish such an escape.
She paused on top of the rooftop of some shop she never visited enough to identify without looking at the sign, and frowned down at the village around her. She was just about out of room to go that wasn't entering the Hokage's Office area (a place she often found herself 'stumbling into' secrets she wasn't authorized for) heading west...so the question was...where next instead?
Re: Sakura | Naruto | Konoha
Shisui stepped out of the place with a stick of dango, stepping further enough that turning around and looking up put him in her line of sight. He smiled, then waved. "What are you doing up there? Down here is where all the good stuff is."
It was his way of saying hello, and was an indirect invitation to come join him at tea. If this was Wonderland, then Shisui was the Mad Hatter. Only he didn't wear or make hats...
He was also not that crazy.

Itachi dropped from the trees when he saw the fight was over. His affiliation was marked plainly enough by his flak vest and headband, he didn't worry about being attacked. That wasn't to say he wasn't ready if he were attacked.
"That was very neatly done," Itachi complimented as he got close enough to speak.

Option 1!
Now that he was finally headed home, however, the sound of another battle was the last thing he wanted to hear -- but it was close enough to the village walls that he heaved a sigh and went to investigate after just a few seconds of debating whether it was worth it.
The sound of a terrified scream broke his vague hope that it was just someone training further out from the village than usual, however, a frown creasing his forehead as he took to the trees to move more quickly. There: a riot of damage through the forest and the lingering trails of earth-natured chakra everywhere. And something familiar about it, something he only placed once he'd skirted the mess of the earth wall and web and landed squarely in the path of the shinobi responsible for it, sword drawn.
The Konoha forehead protector was good enough to start with, but that pink hair was hard to miss.
"You're ... aren't you Sakura?"

SO SORRY FOR BEING HIDEOUSLY SLOW
1!
She moved away after Itachi made his presence known, choosing instead to take a break in a tree along the road. But as soon as Itachi cleared off, she announced her own presence. At least she was in her Konoha gear, standard for whenever she was traveling between villages, which would mark her as no enemy at first glance. Whether or not the girl would recognize her as Naruto's mom or Yondaime's wife was another matter.]
That was a pretty impressive genjutsu.

Kankuro | Naruto | Sunagakure
Man, he could never get a break with this nonsense. Being the Kazekage's son was one thing, but to be sent on missions to other villages that really just needed to be dealt with just wasn't his thing. The lax nature of some of them disgusted him to an extent, quietly cursing the fact their lives were so much easier than their own. Constantly trading for basic supplies and the constant obnoxious sand that was just everywhere and got everywhere was just the beginning of his ire.
The two shinobi at his side remained quiet as he led the way down one of the more well traveled paths, hand always at the ready to pull Crow from his back as was necessary. He was more than a bit wary of staying on paths that led directly to villages, knowing that the slightest move could constitute an enemy.
no subject
For her part Temari was feeling fairly relaxed, you spent enough time traveling back and forth between home and it's polar opposite (Konoha), and you came to generally find the lax nature of other villages amusing. Sometimes almost painfully so when it came across as trusting. Ironically, it wasn't often she was sent on such missions with Kankuro, it didn't worry her but his tension was palpable even from her place in front of him and another two shinobi flanking her something she focused more on to encourage her escorts to think she was uninterested.
They were having a quiet conversation around her as a result, mostly gossip and plans for their day off but there was one nugget of information she found invaluable. The last treaty the village had signed fell through making them all the more willing to work with her and Kankuro during negotiations. With a quick careless tilt of her head she shrugged at her bother a hint of a victorious gleam in her eyes as they neared the main gate into the village.
Ono Yusuke | Antique Bakery | Konohagakure - civilian
With an annoyed sigh he searched about the shop once more, before finding the missing ingredient beneath a pile of cloth he'd been using in order to spruce the place up a bit. Well, that certainly solved that mystery, didn't it?
Smiling to himself he set to work, carefully crafting his wares before the normal inhabitants of the village decided to wake. The shinobi didn't seem to take any particular interest in his wares, but it didn't matter too him that much. It was their problem if they wanted to deny themselves of the sweet scents that wafted from the kitchen out to the modest front that after a couple of hours housed perfect specimens of pastry work.
As he finished he wiped his forehead with the back of his hand, a light sigh escaping his lips as he moved to the shop front, greeting visitors and engaging in small talk.
Let no one say Ono wasn't a people person, after all.

Itachi was actually heading home from an unfortunately all night paper work marathon, too tired to take the rooftops home. He was nursing one last cup of too strong, luke-warm coffee as he made his way through the streets, probably looking haggard despite having neated his hair and washed his face of ink stains before leaving the Hokage's tower.
Itachi had elected to take a new way home and paused as he passed a bakery. He took a moment to look it over, trying to remember if he'd seen it before, or if it had sprung up when he'd been away, or if he'd simply never noticed it before. He wasn't usually on high alert in Konoha, so he could have missed it.
Sweets on top of coffee right before bed sounded like a good way not to sleep, but...
There wasn't any harm in looking, was there? Itachi debated with himself and took another sip of coffee.

Uchiha Shisui | Naruto| Konohagakure
It felt good to return home. Not that he was going to be promised any down time or vacation, but there was something about actually marching up to the entrance of that beloved village than keeping her at heart when fighting for her elsewhere.
Shisui identified himself at the gates, passed the security checkpoints, and, having done the needful, made a bee-line to the Hokage's office. Hands in his pockets, he was walking slower than usual, sniffing out the smell of a brand new tea shop nearby. Now that's one place he was going to have to try soon.
But first, he was going to have to report to the Hokage. And then he was going to need a shower. A nice long one if the fact that the girls weren't sending him their usual coy smiles were any indication. He also wondered what his genin was up to. It had been a while, and he was going to have to figure out how she'd fared on her own for a month. If she'd been slacking, then there would be words.
He doubted it, though.
Either way, he figured he'd find out soon enough. He did have something planned for the two of them after all.

Adela couldn't help frowning at the recognizable chuunin from a distance as she decided to take the 'fast' way home from running errands - that being running on the roof tops instead of trying to claw her way through some of the more crowded streets. That's about when she spots him.
It isn't as if he's a stranger, or at least that much of one; she'd seen him occasionally shopping for kunai and shuriken around her uncle's forge, but other than that she hasn't interacted with the other chuunin at all. But, whenever she did decide to take the short cut, more often than not she'd see him up on that field.
Hm.
Curiousity prompts her to change course and it only takes a few seconds for her to shift to the ground and then to his side, the red head holding a brown paper bag to her chest as she looks him over carefully. Better not to prompt him to attack her on reflex, even if she wasn't exactly quiet about approaching.]

Kozmotis Pitchiner | Guardians of Childhood | Kumogakure
It's an easy enough mission, probably better suited to someone of lower rank, but it was the sort that Kozmotis didn't mind taking and often even enjoyed. Escorting visitors around the village was usually a halfway decent way to get an idea of what was going on in others, even if it was seemingly just gossip.
He doesn't have his scythe on him, there's no need and it wouldn't exactly give a very welcoming appearance. That isn't to say that he's unarmed; he's far too old to make that sort of mistake around someone who wasn't from the village, he's just not going to be as blatant with his suspicion as some others might be.
Whomever he's been assigned to knows who to look for; tall, wiry, hair starting to grey at the temples, gold eyes, an avian cast to his features. He knows as well, and steps forward the moment they arrive through the gate.
"You must be our guest. I'm Kozmotis, your tour guide and escort for your visit." There's a smile to his voice, "Welcome."
B:
It's night at last, camp has been pitched and watches set for the night. Most on the joint mission have gone to sleep, or at least closed their eyes and relaxed in to a doze anyway. Kozmotis and two others form Kumo's part of the larger team, and he's rather obviously the close to mid range part of their set up as well as probably the oldest of the trio.
There are a few smudges of clouds in the sky, leaving the stars visible behind them and the thin slice of moon in the sky. He's been mostly quiet the entire time beyond introductions and small talk, and it's probably going to be a quiet watch by that at least. What better time to try to get to know your foreign teammate a bit, right?
